Mount Morris House

The House, built in 1888 at the height of New York's Gilded Age, is a fine example of that period's splendid architecture. The luxurious and extravagant life-style of New York's wealthy at the turn of the 20th century is reflected... more

Stayed 7 nights over the end of September 2009 to October. By luck upgraded to the larger suite so acres of space. What others say about the stay is accurate. Hosts are unassuming and leave you alone unless you ask for help, which they give and is just what you want. We found Harlem safe but still a little disconcerting. Bus stop runs 24 hours 30 feet from the door. Subway is a 10 minute walk either way. Everyone sent us to 125th St for the subway, if you use the 116th it feels safer and you walk past some local eateries which provided us with good food at reasonable prices.

My wife and I stayed at Mount Morris House for 11 days this April over Easter. Vasili and Dimitri gave us a warm welcome to their B and B and were fantastic hosts and guides to NYC. Each and every day we were surprised with an incredible breakfast! We enjoyed every moment that we spent in NYC and will definitely return to Mount Morris House. Both of us would highly recommend this B and B.

We had a wonderful time in Manhattan. The B&B was very clean and beautifully presented. Although we were a little apprehensive about being in Harlem (too many old movies!), the position turned out to be very good. We were about a 5 minute walk to the subway and there were quite a few shops nearby. Vasili’s breakfasts were delicious and his knowledge of Manhattan was really helpful. Talking to the other guests was fascinating – there was a family from Sweden and a couple from North Carolina at the same time and we found out about times and places for a variety of activities from them. Can’t wait to return!! One of the best things for us (a family of 5 – with 3 teenage children) was the laundry that was right near the subway. It was cheap and did a fantastic job. Denise and Andrew – Perth, Western Australia

We thank Vasili and Dimitri for their tremendous hospitality during our families stay in the loft and Suite 1 during Christmas. Beautifully restored and very clean throughout the grand house. Breakfast each morning was delicious and abundant, lunch was not necessary. Very accessible to both bus and metro. Highly recommended and look forward to visiting again, very much worth the value. Reserve today! P & C Bonnetaud.

Our stay at Mount Morris was superb from start to finish. The house is just beautiful like stepping back in time to the days when houses were aristocratic and elegant. The rooms were a very good size, cosy and warm and the shower was amazing. The breakfast was a feast of fresh fruit, croissants and on Sunday pancakes and maple syrup!!!! Mount Morris is well located and in easy reach of the bus and subway. Our host was gracious and was the perfect compliment to a lovely house. I will definitely be recommending Mount Morris to my friends and look forward to returning myself.

You won't be disappointed staying with Vasili. He will take care of your needs. Breakfast was plentiful and tasted wonderful, conversations were great and he had good recommendations for dinners. We were able to quickly get on the subway or bus right outside of the b&b. Don't let the neighborhood fool you...........there are upscale restraurants within a few blocks of the b&b that have wonderful food and service. The rooms were large and beautifully decorated. We'll be staying again.

this was a great place to stay for our trip, in a very interesting and quiet area, easily accessible by bus and subway. We were made very wellcome by Vasili and Dimitri, and would definitely choose this home from homes again. Vasili must be in contention for the best breakfast ever!! The most beautifully set table, and such a variety of fruit, breads, eggs,cheeses....you name it, and it changed every day!

A great place to stay in NYC! Vassili and Dimitri are extremely welcoming and always ready to help with a host of tips and advice (including an amazing steak restaurant a couple of blocks away!). Breakfasts are lavish and there is a new surprise every day (thank you for the very delicious "pain perdu", Vassili!). And the rooms are very spacious. I strongly recommend this B&B to anyone looking for a memorable NYC experience. Stephanie (Paris)

Our stay at Mount Morris House was beyond our expectations. The house is wonderfully restored. The innkeeper, Vasili, goes the extra step to make your stay comfortable, convenient, and fun. He is an excellent cook - we had a superb breakfast every day. He arranged transportation to and from the airport, printed our boarding passes, arranged a great restaurant for dinner, and on and on. We highly recommend staying at Mount Morris House for a unique look at New York City. Robin and Gil

From the moment we arrived (around midnight due to a delayed flight) to the moment we checked out, we were made to feel welcome by our innkeepers. Our room was spacious and charming, with an updated bath and rain shower. Breakfast was a feast each day and so substantial that we usually skipped lunch (a great economizer in NYC). The bus stop is literally at the bottom of the front steps and the subway just a few blocks away so getting anywhere in Manhattan is very easy. The inn provides wireless internet access, so you get the best of late nineteenth century charm with every modern convenience. We will definitely be back!

Recently my daughter and I spent a week at the Mount Morris House, and the stay enhanced a memorable vacation. If vacationers love antiques and homes with character and history, they will enjoy staying at this B&B. Besides the accommodations the service could not be better. Vasili went out of his way to make our stay enjoyable from making excellent breakfasts, offering to hail us a cab, or asking us if we needed anything while giving all his guests the privacy they may want. Speaking of guests, we met some wonderful people from different countries while the B&B felt like home with the next door neighbor stopping in for breakfast. I highly recommend the Mount Morris House if you are heading to New York. My daughter and I are looking forward to our next visit to the Mount Morris House.

We had a wonderful weekend at the Mount Morris House, using it as a base for our Manhattan trip. It was convenient to LaGuardia, and an easy ride to Midtown on subways or the Park Avenue bus that stops right outside. Our hosts could not have been more attentive, and they helped us have a perfect weekend--at about $200 less per night than we would have spent on a tiny Midtown hotel. We will stay there on our next trip. We give it our highest recommendation.

I am so blessed to have met Vasili and Dimitry. I came to NYC to finish my Ministry ceremony and had already reserved a room with another location, but found out at the last minute that it was a scam. I emailed Vasili desperate for a new location. Vasili called me and was so gracious. They took care of a driver to pick up my family from one location, drop off our luggage and take us to Riverside Church for my ceremony. The rooms are spacious and beautiful and the breakfasts were great. When I visit NYC again, this is the only place I will stay. Thank you, Vasili and Dimitry, for making this trip so spectacular and opening up your beautiful home to us. 6/2008

Due to a last minute change in my schedule, I needed a overnight stay in NYC and was unable to find a decent hotel room at a reasonable price. But staying a night at Mount Morris House was better than any NYC hotel experience. My room and bath was triple the size of any hotel room. Vasili & Dimitry made me feel very welcomed and safe. The morning peaceful with a relaxed breakfast, not a typical NYC morning that I am used to at the hotels! A hidden gem and one that I will frequent often.
