Having visited and stayed in Santa Fe a number of times, on this trip I wanted to find a place somewhat removed from the city, but close enough that I could easily travel into town should I wish to do so. I read the reviews of the High Feather Ranch on Trip Advisor, and visited their excellent website. I have been seduced by well constructed websites before, only to find upon arrival that the place I was staying looked far better online than in reality. I am happy to report that this was not the case with the High Feather Ranch-- the photographs on the website are accurate, though they truly don't do justice to this gorgeous bed and breakfast. Situated near the town of Cerrillos, about 15 miles south of Santa Fe (off of Highway 14), the ranch sits on about 160 acres of land. To the east one has a beautiful panorama of the Ortiz Mountains, the Jemez Mountains to the south, and the Sangre de Cristos to the north. The location is spectacular. I could go on at great length about all of the aspects of the High Feather Ranch that I loved. Suffice it to say this is a special place, perfect for soothing frayed nerves and restoring tired souls. Marianna couldn't have been more hospitable, and she provided excellent recommendations of places to visit--I especially enjoyed the hike I took at Tent Rock National Monument. If you are looking for peace, serenity, and just the right amount of separation from the tourists in Santa Fe, you cannot miss with the High Feather Ranch. It is as close to perfection as I have yet experienced at a bed and breakfast.
