We are two Americans from upstate NY who just spent 4 wonderful days at Bella Guest House. The space is enormous --- the photos don't capture the span of the space --- and we can not say enough good things about the care that Noel took to ensure that we had everything we needed for a terrific time. Noel was to be away for the wkend that we were there, so he thoughtfully checked in on us before leaving and then gave us two numbers to call should we need anything (which we did not as he had so thoroughly taken care of us at the outset of our stay). There was a lovely cross-breeze in the flat, a full (and fully equipped) kitchen, plenty of closet space, a private green space in the back, and the most thoughtful and kindly host anyone could ask for! The subway stop is a mere four blocks away if you want to go downtown, but there is plenty to see and do right around any corner: shops, cafes, galleries, the famed Apollo Theater, legendary jazz clubs, bring-down-the-house gospel church services, parks, etc. There is one stable and quiet tenant also on the same floor, and Noel and young family in the flat above. We stay in many different places when in NYC and Noel's place is by far the best value and one of the most pleasant places we've patronized!

Me and my husband were here, in this lovely apartment, in october 2009. About the place, the first thing I want to point out is that is not a B&B as such, I mean, is a totally independent place to stay, actually, your breakfast has to be self serviced, but, in my oppinion that's the clue of feeling like living in NYC for a while. You feel "at home", the neighbourhood is full of supemarkets, reataurants, cafes and shops. You're free to come and go whenever, but, if you need whatever, the owner (nice and helpful) is just two floors upstairs. Regarding the space, the apartment is huge, the bedroom is like 30 square mt., is well decorated and has everything you need, is you go in a "couple" mood, don't go more than two couples, but if you go with friend is perfect for six.

This was my first trip to New York city with the family. Noel was very hospitable and made us feel at home. He answered all our questions in a very. polite manner. In no time we found our way around town with ease. The proximity to the nearest subway was 4 blocks away. We were very close to all the sightseeing spots. It was only a 20 minute subway trip to Times Sqaure The apartment was very comfortable for our group of five. This beat staying in a hotel anyday as it was more economical to do so. Bella was a superb place to stay. The rooms are enormous and comfortable. And the price was very reasonable, especially with full bathroom and kitchen. (as pictured.) Location is an easy walk (~ 4 blocks) from express subway trains at 116th (2,3) and 125th (A) and local stops. Fun African places to eat nearby, contemporary cafe for breakfast very close, and a supermarket when you want it. Neighborhood felt entirely safe into the evening. Noel is very friendly and helpful. It was our first time in New York City, and we loved staying at Bella Guest house, which was in brownstone building (row houses made of reddish brown sandstone) that is very popular in most New York movies. The unit is very clean, too spacious for 2 of us :) and reasonably well priced. The area is safe, diverse and surrounded by history - Apollo Theater and Cotton Club which made Duke Ellington and James Brown among others stars are walking distance. Being a fan of great Jazz music, we went for a show at the Apollo Theater, which still lights up with major headlining acts. On Sunday, we took a walk to one of the famous churches in the neighborhood for a feet-stomping gospel brunch (my wife loved it :). Oh, and don't forget to check out a delcious Soul Food dinner at Sylvia's. I would surely come back again. Ciao!

We did stay at Bella Guest House for five nights at the beginning of February 2009 - we are two couples from Austria (NOT Australia ;-)) with the age of 25 to 30. The rooms met all our expectations. They are very cosy and spacious and there is a fully furnitured kitchen as well. In contrast with other accomodations - which mostly are much more expensive - we never had the feeling of getting claustrophobia. Innkeeper Noel was always a helpful and friendly contact person and he came up on all our demands. He helped us in finding a great Jazz club nearby and planning the route for our further destination... this is definitely not the standard and we were really happy to have all his assistance and not only a "standard" unmotivated innkeeper. Only after a few minutes walk you can reach the next metro or bus station. We always used public transportation for going downtown in order to visit the "tourist classics" like Rockefeller Center, Times Square, Miss Liberty etc. One of the things I enjoyed most was a NBA match at Madison Square Garden - fortunately I could attend a match vs. the LA Lakers in which glorious Kobe Bryant from the Lakers did score 61 points in one game. It was awesome! Generally we cannot make any evaluation regarding dining, so I just kept the 4 points for this category - it's up to you and your cooking skills. ;-) To sum up: We can highly recommend Bella Guest house for a convenient stay at NYC and for having a well located starting point to explore the Big Apple. We've been in Bella guest house for one week (from january 24th till january 31th 2009) and have nothing but positive comments about the unit. We were 4 people (2 couples)and were very pleased by the space we had in the appartment. It's perfect for 4people and you could easily add 2 children.Each couple had its own privacy. The appartment has a large bedroom (with a bed and an extra futton) and there is a second bed in the living room with in each place a tv and a dvd reader. The kitchen was very well furnished (with all basic ingredients).We had a lot of clean and soft towels and blankets.There is even a little garden with a barbecue(off course we couldn't it use because of the cold!)The location is very good (a few blocks from the express lines 2or3 from the subway).We really had everything we needed. Noel was very helpful and we thank him a lot for the great stay we had. We would definitely recommend this place to anyone and would come back to this place if we can make it again in New York.If you come to New York, don't forget to take enough money for shopping!You will not resist it.I recommend Century21 (in front off Ground Zero) and Macy's with the wednesday's sales(don't forget to get your discount card at "tourist information" which you automatically get when you aren't american by showing your passport - it gives you 11% discount on everything in Macy's (except electronics!) We had a wonderful stay at the Bella Guest House. Noel was very helpful and accomodating, especially in relation to airline lost luggage that he assisted with when delivered to the B&B. The rooms were spacious, very clean, well decorated/maintained and generally very well supplied with all necessities. Plus the heating and hot water worked extremely well (very inportant given it was freezing outside!). Whilst at first we were concerned about the area, we found we had nothing to fear and felt very safe with the tube vey accessible in a 5 minute walk. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this B&B.

We stayed in New York at the Bella Guest House for a week. Our stay was extremely comfortable and Noel was an exceptional host. He answered all of our queries upon arrival and was a HUGE help when the airline 'lost' one of our bags. He followed it up for us and made himself available to be there when it finally arrived. This meant that we could still be out and about enjoying the sites and not have to sit at the apartment waiting for it. The apartment itself was very comfortable and had plenty of room for all 4 of us. Whilst the location itself wasn't very desirable (Harlem is very much still and area that needs improvement!), the apartment was great in terms of walking distance to the subway, and only 10 - 15 minutes on the subway to anywhere. This is really the best way to visit New York City. Our group of four found the Bella Guesthouse accommodating to our every need. The rooms were spacious, tastefully decorated and spotless. Everything about the place welcomed us and we felt at home. We were attending an event in lower Manhattan and subway connections were made easily. The neighborhood around the guesthouse had everything we needed: grocery stores, coffee houses and great restaurants. From the outset, our contact with Noel was great; he answered all our questions, and made sure our requirements were met. The place is exceptional compared to some of things I've seen for equal price in NYC. It's basically a 2-bedroom all-equipped apartment. Everything you need is there; it's also incredibly clean and well-kept. We came with our two small children, they slept in one room, and so we had our privacy. Try to get that in even the most expensive hotel room! We also brought/bought our own groceries, so we were able to cook supper if we wanted to, and believe me, after a day in NYC with the kids, we just wanted to chill in the early evening and have some peace and quiet, which this place provided. Easy access to subway, and close enough to things that taxis are affordable. There was AC, a backyard, a TV in each room with cable, wireless Internet and on and on. What a great place and innkeeper. We will definitely return.

We just got back from a great weekend in NYC where we stayed at Bella Guest House. Noel was very accomodating. He allowed us to store luggage with him until quite late in the afternoon before we left which was excellent. The guest house itself is wonderful, very welcoming and well kept. It was very clean as well, and decorated very nicely. The location is a little far from the subway, but the neighborhood was fine, and we didn't feel unsafe at all when walking around to get to restaurants or the subway even at night. For the price in Manhattan the amount of space you get is great! And the kitchen is a bonus which we only used once, but awesome if you were staying longer! The street is quiet as well for sleeping late. All in all we would definitely stay here again! The bakery with breakfast vouchers you get is great too!

We booked the apartment in May 2008 for ourselves and another couple for a quiet, "grown-up" getaway for four, however plans changed dramatically when our babysitting arrangements fell through. Suddenly we found ourselves bringing along our 1 and 2 year old girls. Noel was unbelievably accommodating and the apartment was perfect for our family. It was extremely clean, spacious and the kids even had a small fenced yard to play in at the end of each site-seeing day. The location in Harlem was perfect. My wife and I took the M60 bus from Laguardia to within three blocks of the BnB. We used the subway to travel all over Manhattan including the Financial district, Times Square, and also Yankee Stadium in The Bronx. The BnB was big, clean, and well decorated. It was our own aparttment in Manhattan. Noel, was a true gentleman and was even kind enough to print our boarding passes for our early morning flight home. My son and I were in NY after he was admitted to Columbia for a graduate program. We were looking at the university and trying to get a handle on the area and where he could hook up with other people to live. When you compare the accomodations here with hotels available in the Upper West Side, you can not beat the price and the accomodation. The rooms were spacious and very well equipped. There were more features we could have used and didn't (grill, patio). There was a full size refrig and dining area and seperate living room and dining areas. Noel(the Innkeeper) was great. He provided information about the neighborhoods, where to dine, transportation, local stores, reminded us about parking restrictions, etc. Parking is a challenge in NY because of the street cleaning -- but at least they clean the streets in residential neighborhoods -- which I know my city does not do! I noticed another reviewer mentioned crime. We did not have concerns, but we live in the city. We are comfortable with people sitting and standing out side for hours talking to each other and watching their children and youth. They were also very helpful with directions. If we were traveling without the pet, I'd stay there again!!!

5 Friends and I stayed at Bella Guest House. Sleeping very comfortably for a week, we all had a wonderful time with a GREAT host, Noel. The subway was very close making it VERY convenient for traveling the city. The market is walking distance, plus having a full equipped kitchen made it perfect to make dinner or breakfast at the Bella Guest House. End of June we stayed a couple of days in this wonderful place in Harlem. It's clean and Noel makes his guests feel at home. No worry about staying in Harlem; no crime encountered. It is better staying here than in busy Manhattan and much cheaper; and by subway it is not that far. A good super market is around the corner, so you could even be using the well equipped kitchen. If not there are some nice restaurants around and Noel is always there to give advice. We enjoyed the Bella and will certainly come back.

We stayed at Bella Guest House during the “heat wave” in early June. In addition to the place being spacious, clean and stocked with kitchen basics, the refrigerated air created a great oasis from the heat. Both beds (and the futon) were very comfortable and the place is nicely furnished. The house and neighborhood were kid-friendly and there was plenty of room for our four-year old to spread out his coloring books, dinosaurs, etc. and enjoy himself. We’ve never stayed in Harlem before, and we were impressed with how friendly the neighborhood is and how extremely close the guest house is to everything. It wasn’t much different in terms of transit time than staying in the Upper West Side, for example. Noel is also a great host and provided us with all the information we needed to get around. We will definitely stay again in the future and recommend the place enthusiastically.

We found a huge appartement, clean, taken care of, provided with everything you need, a garden (in the middle of Harlem !!) and very close to central park. We really appreciated this nice apartement and the kind host. Unfortunately, we almost ran into a crime scene while coming home at midnight, so you should better take a cab when you stay out late. We stayed at Bella Guest House for two nights during Easter 2008, and we loved it! The apartment is well equipped and really spacious with high ceilings and two large, cozy rooms. It really feels like home! There`s even a back yard which I'm sure is great now during the summer! The guest house is situated on a quiet street in a nice neighborhood. In the mornings we used our coupons for the cute little pastisserie right around the corner and got a muffin and coffee to boost our energy before we headed down town! The subway is a 5 minute walk away from the apartment, and it takes 10-15 minutes to get downtown on the express line. The host Noel is very friendly, and quickly answered all our questions by email. He asked for a deposit which we payed through money order with no problem. We sincerely recommend Bella Guest House, and we will come back!

I am originally a New Yorker who now lives in Washington, DC and comes back to NY frequently. This visit I decided to do a Bed and Breakfast in Harlem. I was recommended to try out the Bella Guest House. Never having had the B&B experience and seeing mixed reviews on some, I was a bit nervous. But to my pleasant surprised, I truly felt at home at the Bella Guest House. I loved the mixture of the original architect with the contemporary flavor. The kitchen was spacious. The dishes were very attractive. The living room had a second bed as well as a nice dinette. The bathroom was "primo". New fixtures that had antique styling with beautiful black granite flooring. Plentiful towels. The "piece de resistance" was the bedroom. SPACIOUS is an understaement. The photos do not do justice to the bedroom. The bedroom has the original crown moldings on the windows and the original fireplace mantle in the bedroom is gorgeous. The entire apartment has attractive wood flooring throughout the apartment giving it a warm appearance. The only problem I had was that the heat was not on when entering the apartment, therefore, it took a little while for it to warm up. But that's minor compared to a wonderful stay. Would recommend and would stay there again. Oh, the price is very reasonable. The best in NYC.

Bella is really a nice place with great value. We had visited New york city before, and we had stayed at several places. Bella was recommanded by a previous innkeeper that we stayed and to our surprise, we found this guest house exceptionally nice. The rooms were clean and what I would consider to be a bit larger than what I've seen in most standard and deluxe rooms. One of my favorite places is the private back yard. Eventhough it was cold outside, I was able to get out for a fresh air. We loved Bella guest house and its cleaness, price and abilty to go to midtown in 20 minutes.

We went at Bella Guest House for year's eve (1st of january 2008) with my girlfriend. As the price was very attractive for the season we had a good surprise to find all the confort (wide bedroom, nice kitchen, clean bathroom and the heater was working well). The nice thing is that it is direct to Time Square (20 min) via the subway, so it's a nice compromise. Everything was cool, we made the payment deposit via western Union, and paid the rest by cash. There were no bad surprise, Noel (the inkeeper) is a very honnest personn.
