My husband and I were married over a weekend at the Iris Inn. The Innkeepers, Dave and Heidi, were wonderful! They made our special weekend unforgettable - we can't wait to join them at the Iris Inn again soon. The suite was beautiful and spacious - we instantly felt welcome and relaxed. The Inn is nestled in the mountains and the scenery and views are absolutely spectacular.

After our original B&B was double-booked, and with only a month before the wedding (on UVA's Homecoming Weekend), I found the Iris Inn online and snapped up the Garden Path Suite. It was the best result to a last minute snafu - Dave and Heidi are lovely people, the suite was enchanting (I loved looking for all of the woodland creatures the artist painted around the room) and the food was extraordinary. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and would highly recommend it to friends and family.

My husband and I recently stayed in the Garden Path suite. The well-appointed room was wonderful - large with a wraparound patio. The bed and pillows were very comfortable, and the room was full of windows, out of which were spectacular views of the woods. The location is excellent for a drive along Skyline Drive/Blue Ridge Pkwy. We didn't meet Dave (he was away that weekend), but Heidi was a terrific hostess who cooked a delicious breakfast for us on Sunday. Katie, their dog, is adorable, and loves to play catch. We would highly recommend the Iris Inn.

We visited the Inn as a family and enjoyed a huge suite with plenty of room for all of us and filled with many comforts and delights. The suite was situated separately from the main Inn and was mostly surrounded by forest with quite a bit of deck space and many huge windows to enjoy the scenery. We particularly liked the spiral staircase and the gas fireplace. The host and hostess were perfectly amienable and gave us many options, hints and suggestions for our activities during our visit. They provided a wonderful breakfast, differing daily, with lovely fresh fruits and delicious home made pancakes and muffins and satisfying eggs and bacon. Overall, the stay was superb and we would visit again and highly recommend the Iris Inn to anyone.

We've stayed at several B&B's but this was the best ever! The rooms were lovely, very spacious and the setting was wonderful. We had a terrific view. It's a great location. It's near Skyline Drive, the Blue Ridge Parkway and lots of wineries. But, what really sets this place apart from others that we've stayed at is Heidi and Dave. They are terrific host and everyone feels like they are their special guest. It's a great place.

It's hard to know what to review -- everything about The Iris Inn is wonderful! The location is great -- right off the interstate, and yet close to all the things you want to see. Then you walk inside and it kind of wraps its arms around you -- you feel "at home." Dave or Heidi comes forward to greet you and you have two new wonderful friends! The rooms are all spacious and comfortable and the breakfasts are to die for. Coffee is always in the pot and there are always some cookies or snacks to fill your empty spaces till eating time. Katie, the dog, is well behaved, friendly, and loves to play ball with you. Go out to visit Monticello, historic places, or the wineries and your day is complete. Back to the Inn's comfortable beds and morning is waiting for you to begin all over again. You'll love it!!

After canceling once we were able to rebook the day of our stay, with a "glad to have you" from Dave. Dave is probably one of the most gracious and helpful owners that I have ever met. If you need it, he does it. Heidi did a great job in the kitchen, and does it with a smile. Sitting in the hot tub under the stars made a perfect end to our days spent touring. Great choice if you need a place to rest your weary head in that area. R&B

My sister and I first stayed there the fall of 2008. We returned with her family in May of 2009. I brought my daughter there in August of 2009. And, my sister and I plan another three-night stay in October 2009. The rooms are great, the food is great, Dave and Heidi are great! My sister and I love a glass of wine with cheese in the evenings overlooking the valley from the tower. It's a great sister-get-away. My coworkers are now taking advantage of the peace and relaxation of the Inn as well. There are presidental homes to visit in the area plus many vineyards and other activities. The Blue Ridge Highway is near by for driving, hiking, and taking in the local sights and events. There is much to see and do, or, just take a nap. :)

My wife and I love to stay at B&Bs, to be able to explore and enjoy the surrounding locale. In this case the Iris Inn became the center piece of our two night stay. We were greeted by Dave and his dog Katie, Katie escorted us to the room but no further than the threshold. As we found out Katie likes to have her ball thrown to her, over and over. The Inn has a wide porch and balcony for sitting and viewing the woods and sunsets. We were also treated to deer foraging close to the Inn. Dave and his wife Heidi have created a warm and friendly atmosphere that encourages conversation and relaxation. The food at breakfast time is filling and oh so tasty. We are looking forward to a future visit.

Innkeepers Dave and Heidi were helpful, accommodating, and an absolute pleasure to be around -- and always available without being intrusive. The great room is impressive, the library/game area cozy and inviting, the deck and grounds relaxing and peaceful, and the breakfast outstanding. The inn is nestled in the woods, with restaurants and activities just minutes away. We went for a romantic Valentine's Day weekend, enjoying a tour of Monticello and stops at local wineries, but it would be great for any type of retreat. We consistently recommend it to friends and will definitely return in the future.

We found the Iris Inn to be a very nice place. From Katie the border collie to Dave and Heidi, we felt very welcome. The snacks were good, we made use of the loft area with the books and board games, connected to the internet with no problem and found the room to be very nice. There was a security light that was on for part of the night outside our room that was a minor inconvenience, but we told Heidi about it and she seemed concerned and we felt that it wouldn't be an issue in the future. We would recommend a stay at the Iris Inn to any of our friends visiting the area.

There are a good variety of restaurants within a 20 minute drive which can put you in Stanton, Waynesboro, or even Wintergreen Resort. 30 minutes puts you in Charlottesville. The rooms are nice, spacious, and clean with panel TVs, DirectTV, etc. The lodge was purpose built to be a B&B with upper and lower decks and even a lookout tower. Innkeepers Dave and Heidi were friendly, helpful, and offered up a heck of a breakfast. I definitely would stay there again.

We just stayed at the Iris Inn and it was wonderful. The staff was friendly and kind. They helped us with our dinner plans and with directions to attractions in the area. The room was just beautiful, spacious and clean. We met some wonderful people from Virginia and New Jersey over breakfast. The food was fabulous. We highly recommend the Iris Inn. It will be our first choice when we visit the area again. Peter & Barbara Rhode Island

We recently attended a seminar for prospective innkeepers at the Iris Inn. Innkeepers Heidi and Dave orchestrated everything beautifully, on schedule, and had a great meeting room for our group. Iris Inn is a peaceful, woodsy retreat, and we felt we were treated as friends. A perfect stay--from the 'over the top' breakfasts in the morning, to the heavenly bed at night.

The Iris Inn exceeded our expectations. The owners were very friendly and accomodating. The facilities were much nicer than we anticipated. We were graciously upgraded to a, very nice suite, from a regular room. We did not have dinner before we arrived so we were invited to join the owners for pizza and beer tasting. The Iris Inn is certainly a place we will visit again.

My 2 girlfriends and I recently stayed at The Iris Inn for our annual weekend getaway. The inn is secluded in a wooded area yet easy access to the interstate. You almost feel like you've entered a lodge rather than a B & B when you walk through the front doors. You immediately see the gorgeous floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace in the living area. Large windows are all throughout to give you the feel of being outdoors. There are porches on both levels with rocking chairs, swings, and tables as well as a 3-story firetower for sitting and relaxing. Heidi and Dave were so hospitable with their directions, restaurant recommendations, local info, and friendly conversations. We were even treated to some wine tastings. We also enjoyed playing ball with their cute, well-behaved border collie, Katie. All the rooms are very clean and beautifully decorated. We stayed in The Duck Room, which is decorated in that theme, and it comfortably accommodated the 3 of us with a queen bed and daybed. The breakfasts were delicious and included baked omelette, waffles, pancakes, eggs, bacon, ham, fresh fruit, and much more. Heidi and Dave were very gracious and eager to please. I would highly recommend The Iris Inn to anyone wanting to escape to the mountains to a beautiful, peaceful retreat and be pampered for a while.

This lovely inn is tucked away and very secluded but with easy access to the highway and shops. The owners were extremely friendly and always concerned with our needs and desires. Breakfast was wonderful and a great way to start the day. The warmth of the main house makes you feel like you arrived home. With fresh baked cookies, a friendly dog to play catch with and a glass of wine waiting for you at night, this place is the perfect place to unwind from your busy life.

We embarked on a journey for peace and solitude and lucked out by locating The Iris Inn on the BedandBreakfast.com website. The location is just off the main highway, but set off enough to give you a secluded, private feel. Dave and Heidi were extremely helpful and friendly; and their Border Collie Katie was so fun and loving it made us feel right at home. Normally, I don't expect much for breakfasts at Inns, but the presentation of quality of the home cooked breakfasts far exceeded our expectations. They arranged for a packed picnic lunch for our hiking trip which included home baked cookies and delicious sandwiches and snacks in a thermal tote bag. They offer a great selection of wines from their wine cellar, and made our romantic escape even more appealing with chocolate covered strawberries and champagne flutes on our first evening in town. The price we paid was so nominal in comparison to the service and enjoyment we received in return. We will DEFINITELY return there soon, and perhaps stay in one of their elegant suites this time. We highly recommend this place to anyone!! Christopher and Angelique from Virginia

Without a doubt one of the best weekends we have had is with Dave and Heidi at the Iris Inn. They made our stay at the Inn relaxing and pleasurable with great food and excellent service. The presentation and quality of the breakfast surpasses anything I have had at any of the highest rate restaurants I’ve ever been to. The Inn itself is warm and relaxing with an air of elegance that only someone that is dedicated to your comfort can achieve. The room was spacious and comfortable with an excellent view of the surrounding woods that puts you at ease. And you can tell that they care just by the little things that they do for you that other establishments would over look. Their knowledge of the surrounding area attractions and restaurants is excellent and their recommendations are always on the money. I can not think of a single thing that I would change about the Iris, and that in itself says everything.

The Iris Inn is excellent in every respect. The well designed, nicely furnished Inn is very modern, clean and comfortable. It's located in a quiet wooded area away from noise and traffic, but only minutes away from shopping, restaurants, Skyline Drive, and the Blue Ridge Parkway. The food is great, with a variety of gourmet dishes, and the innkeepers, Dave and Heidi Lanford, are the icing on the cake. They make you feel so comfortable and welcome that it's like visiting old friends.

The Inn is geared as a comfortable and elegant little getaway for adults. Couples w/ young children, should leave the kids with grandparents, as the Inn is a chance for a romantic getaway. Room pricing's more than fair; for the comfort, decor and superbly homemade breakfasts, it's a total bargain! Duck Room's handicapped accessible. This was our 6th stay. We were very fond of the previous owners so I had a little trepidation, wondering what Dave & Heidi might have chosen to modify. I needn't have worried. They retained cook Cindy, whose been the creative mastermind behind the exquisite breakfasts since before our 1st visit. Updating Dave & Heidi have done has improved the property inside and out, w/o sacrificing spirit & beauty of the Inn. Mellow, intelligent border collie, Kate, will make you feel at home. They've added supreme convenience of online booking and even advance order of extras - we added a fantastic picnic lunch for 2, used during a day's tour of the house and grounds of nearby Montpelier, and tacked on 2 pounds of smooth, rich Columbian coffeebeans from Escalera Roasters- same great coffee served at the Inn. The Inn's location, b/w the lovely Skyline Drive & the eye-soothing Blue Ridge Parkway. These are some of the most scenic routes in the US, if not the whole world. There’s access to multitudes of hiking trails for all skill levels off either drive or even catch a trek on a piece of the storied Appalachian Trail. A nearby restaurant, right down the road is South River Grill - nice memorabilia for horse lovers and good food. If Ray’s your waiter, you WILL be entertained and well served. Many cultural and historic sites, vineyards a short drive away. Mill Street Grill, a converted mill, often has entertainment; food's excellent. American Shakespeare Center, designed to mimic the Globe Theatre has medieval seating, enthusiastic players and great fun.

From the moment we drove up the hill and saw the beautiful setting overlooking the Blue Ridge Mountains, we were completely enchanted with the Iris Inn. The innkeepers were friendly, gracious, accommodating to our special requests, and just overall wonderful people to meet. They gave us great recommendations for dining in the area. The room was comfortable, spacious, and cozily appointed. (The beds were quite comfortable to sleep in, as well!) The trip was three mothers getting together for a weekend, and we found that the Duck room had plenty of space for 3 people to relax in (with a separate day bed). Then, there was breakfast - absolutely delicious each morning of our 2 night stay. The location is convenient to the highway, yet tucked away so that you feel you are in a mountain retreat. We made excursions to nearby historical sights as well as into Charlottesville itself - quite an easy trip from the inn. I heartily recommend this inn to anyone looking to stay in the area. I can't say enough about how nice, helpful, and friendly the innkeepers were!

The highlight of our recent weeklong vacation in Virginia was our two-night stay at the Iris Inn. The location (tucked away on a hilltop, though not far from major roads) was outstanding and easy to find. We liked the proximity to the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Skyline, Staunton, Charlottesville and Monticello - all less than 30 minutes away. For dinner, various restaurants are nearby - but you sure do not need lunch, since the Iris Inn's breakfasts are fresh, delicious and generous! The large rooms and common area are well-appointed, very clean and welcoming - we loved watching the sun set from the swing on our balcony outside the Pine Room. Lots of large windows throughout truly bring the outside in. But what we liked most was meeting our hosts, Dave and Heidi. They made us feel very welcome and really wanted us to be comfortable and feel at home. Their attention to detail was evident in all aspects of our stay, and they are fun and kind people. We hope to be back before too long - and in the mean time, we are happy to tell all our friends about the Iris Inn!

My girlfriend and I just got back to the DC area from a weekend getaway to relax and celebrate her birthday. On Saturday morning we took a slow ride down skyline drive into the heart of the Shenandoah Valley. The whole trip was a surprise, so we did not stop in at the Iris Inn when we first arrived, but in the meantime we enjoyed the warmest day of Spring to date at two of the finest wineries that the Monticello area has to offer. After a lazy afternoon in the sunshine, I revealed our accomodations for the night to my girlfriend as we made our way up the hilltop to the Iris Inn. I cannot say that I frequent B&Bs, but I cannt imagine a better location for one. Dave and Heidi (and Katie - their bordie collie) greeted us as we pulled up and made us feel at home right away. They had a wonderfully warm style of hospitality; my girlfriend and I felt like they were there for anything we would need, but we didnt even need to know they were there unless we wanted to. We had a relaxing dinner watching the sunset from the deck before having a peaceful night's sleep - and in the morning, Heidi's breakfast was the perfect way to start off the day - it was truly outstanding. I highly recommend this Inn to anyone traveling to some of the most beautiful countryside on the east coast - the Iris Inn fits in perfectly. Thanks Dave and Heidi.

This was my first time staying at a B&B and the Iris inn was perfect. Dave and Heidi greeted us as we walked in the door and made us instantly feel at home with a quick little tour, hot tea and freshly baked chocolate chip cookies. The views from this inn were incredible and the artwork around the rooms were beautiful from local artists. I will definitely stay there again when I go to visit Cvill.

We called all around Charlottesville looking for a B and B for Martin Luther King Jr. Weekend. When I called the Iris Inn I was already on my 8th call of the day. I was a little frustrated that no one was answering the phones at other Inn’s and Hotels! Heidi answered in a friend tone. I knew from that second that the Iris Inn was the place for my husband and me to stay. We decided to leave work early and head out of DC before 1300, so we would miss the traffic. Since we opted for the “do nothing weekend” package, we wanted to get to the Inn and settled before dinner. We were greeted by the Inn Keepers, who made us feel like one of the family instead of a guest. Our room was fantastic! The service and food was unbelievable! The Landford’s were very gracious hosts. My husband is a chef, but man can Heidi cook! The dinners and brunches were out of the world! We had such a great time and we are planning on going back this May. If you are planning to see the Shenandoah Mountains or heading towards Charlottesville’s- look no further. This is the PLACE to BE!! I promise that you will not be disappointed!
