After 31 years of marriage and an almost equal amount of time unsuccessfully finding the perfect getaway to celebrate it, finally we've found it! The amenities, while fantastic, play a secondary role to the courteous, gracious and friendly nature of the owner, Gilbert. Evidence of his meticulousness are everywhere while at the same time he is almost invisible during your stay unless needed. I would recommend the Grouse House to anyone if I were not so afraid to be closed out next time we need to escape! Can't thank you enough for a perfect weekend! Leslie & Jamie

Location & view, deer, birds, squirrels, elusive bear, hot tub, Jacuzzi in room, only guests, proximity to 'cool stuff' to do, breakfast on the Tree House open deck... Book early or miss out.

While there are many bed and breakfast spots along the Hudson Valley, the Grouse House stands out as a one of a kind getaway. Gilbert has created more a personal retreat spot for couples than a B&B. His emphasis on privacy- evident by the fact that despite having two rooms he only rents to one couple at a time- adds to a very special experience. The penthouse suite is more an apartment than a room and while you never see the owner during your stay, you do feel as if you have your own personal service. All you need to do is call Gilbert and he'll provide great ideas on how to spend your day. We look forward to going back, as there is no need to check out any other place.

We were a little apprehensive about a b and b but the Grouse House exceeded our expectations and we are fussy New Yorkers. Gilbert is the most gracious host and the room is absolutely beautiful. It was amazingly clean, the bed was so comfortable. The room was stocked with movies, breakfast necessities, toiletries and everything you'd need. The hot tub is the perfect place to view the sunset and if there's any info that you need, the host is extremely knowledgeable. We can't wait till our next visit!

This place, on a side road in the woods, is perfect for couples who want to get away. Gilbert is a wonderful host, breakfast is simple and tasty, the jacuzzi (in the room) is wonderful, and Woodstock (10 min drive) has great restaurants. It's the perfect retreat, and we'll definitely be back.

My husband and I stayed overnight. enjoyed the room. views are beautifiul. we woke up to the views of the mountains. would stay here again for a weekend getaway. thank you, gilbert!
