My husband and I absolutely LOVED our weekend getaway for our 2 year anniversary at the High Meadows Vineyard Inn. The Daffodil room was so gorgeous and I loved the claw foot tub. Nancy couldn't have been more helpful and hospitable and her daughter is an AMAZING cook! The breakfast was sooo yummy! The overall ambiance of the inn was so incredible that I even wanted to wake up early just to enjoy it :)

My husband and I celebrated our 7 year wedding anniversary at the Inn. We stayed in the Dogwood Room, and enjoyed it immensely. Nancy greeted us with open arms and made us feel right at home. The breakfasts were amazing and we had an incredible dinner as well. I'd recommend High Meadows to anyone looking for a quiet, relaxing getaway in home away from home.

My husband and I highly recommend this charming, welcoming, "5" star Bed and Breakfast in Scottsville, VA. Our experience was one of personable service, excellent dining, embracing surroundings and lovely gardens. Nancy greeted us as "family" and was graciously charming and attentive to our needs --even if it was conversation. It was like stepping into a meticulously kept home of the 1800's. The decor was absolutely wonderful. The rooms were inviting and cozy. The meals were exceptional! Cynthia pulled out all the stops for breakfast and the dinner was a culinary delight--so delicious and certainly not the run of the meal choices! We highly recommend this lovely Bed and Breakfast. Many special thanks from both of us to Cynthia for preparing last night's delicious dinner of lemon capers salmon, special salad before w/ the inn made vinaigrette, followed by a spiced baked seasonal pear; to Nancy who as always shared fun Inn stories about the farm animals (rabbits, newly arrived peacocks, miniature goat, etc.) and ongoing Scottsville activities; and to Ryan who was his usual charming self as skilled waitstaff. We recommend High Meadows Inn evening dining for folks staying in Scottsville who do not want to drive all the way to Charlottesville for dinner...the historical inn's country setting providing a grand evening of dining and memories.

We truly enjoyed our two night stay at this beautiful Inn tucked away on a pretty, windy road in Southern Virginia. Nancy Bruce is a lovely hostess, and Cynthia Bruce's cooking. One of our favorite parts was watching all the animals (bunnies, cats, peacocks, turkeys, and a goat) that live there frolick around in the yard. We stayed in the Cottage Suite, and it was very pretty and cozy.

My husband and I arrived at High Meadows and were greeted by Nancy at the door, given historic details about the Inn and shown about. Since we were the only guests that night, we were given a full tour, which was delightful. The room we chose was beautifully appointed. We slept in a very comfortable bed and awoke to a rooster crowing around 7 a.m., which was an added bonus! We met our host on the enclosed porch where we were to enjoy breakfast. Freshly brewed coffee and fresh-squeezed orange juice were waiting for us when we sat down, and a wonderfully executed breakfast soon followed. The food was delicious, fresh and plentiful! We took our time, chatting with Nancy and enjoying the beautiful view of the well-kept grounds, cats & peacocks. We will definitely return and recommend that anyone traveling in the Charlottesville/Scottsville area take advantage of this lovely Inn.

I am a big hotel by the ocean kind of guy. High Meadows hasn't completely converted me but I have to say - it was a very pleasant surprise. My wife and I spent two nights at the Robins' Nest room and enjoyed it tremendously. Service is great and Nancy and her family have a wonderful sense of detail (chocolates in the living room, Italian fruit drinks, chocolate covered strawberries etc.). We are thinking of going back . . .

"It is a truth universally acknowledged", that a family in need of a wonderful place to stay must stay at the High Meadows Inn! Just read that Cynthia loves Jane Austen! Did not know that when we stayed at the Inn a year ago for our daughter's graduation. The Inn is lovely and Nancy is a real gem! Love the cottage, really love the house with the candy dishes, sweet treats and coffee! Looking forward to a romantic getaway for just the two of us! Thank you!

I don't know how critical I can be since this was my first B&B experience, but here goes... High Meadows was the highlight of our vineyard tour throughout Virginia. There seems to be a definite emphasis on fun, happiness and simple sustainable pleasures. The food was simply amazing. The rooms were beautiful without being gaudy. The Innkeeper was not only a wealth of information but one of the nicest ladies I've ever met.

High Meadows Vineyard Inn was perfect for an anniversary weekend. Before we arrived, Nancy recommended wine tours to us and even helped us pick a restaurant for dinner in Charlottesville on our way to the Inn. There was tea and dessert when we arrived at the Inn late, wonderful breakfast the next morning, and absolutely beautiful grounds to wander around in. The room was beautiful with a king bed, bathtub, fireplace and elegant decorations. A really perfect place.

Innkeeper Response
We had one weekend in February where daytime temperatures were around 20 degrees. It was difficult to heat 'this old house', it is true, but... Every room is individually heated with baseboard heat, in addition to lovely 100% goosedown comforters. Each room also has a wool or cotton blanket. At checkin, on rare cold days such as this guest may have experienced, we try to emphasize the availability of extra space heaters for supplemental heat, if anyone wishes. And of course, if a guest does not let us know they are uncomfortable, we can not offer another room, or to provide more heat...which we gladly would have done! Our inn is antique - and has it's quirks, but all rooms can be maintained at 80 degrees if a guest so wishes. Common areas are kept at 65 degrees in Winter and 72 degrees in Summer. Most of all, we want our guests to be comfortable - please let us know of ANYTHING you need during your stay! Sincerely, Cynthia & Nancy Bruce

Drive only 2 hours from the Washington area and you will find yourself lost in a beautiful home away from home. This was our first experience at a B&B, I later told the boyfriend that he got himself into trouble because I never want to go into another hotel after staying here. We stayed for 3 nights in the Robin's Nest room. The bed was fantastic, there's a fire place (which was wonderful!), a stand up shower and each room has it's own thermostat so you are always comfortable. Breakfast is offered from 6-10 giving couples a nice window to eat in the morning depending on your person schedule and the food was absoultely wonderful; they even cater to food allergies! You also have the option of eating at the Inn, our dinner was filet, veggies, and potatoes, again, all fantastic. A mother and a daughter run the Inn together and they do a fantastic job; you truly feel like there is nothing in the world that matters expect for relaxing. It was also nice that there were dinner brochures of what was in town and the Inn set up a vineyard tour for us as well; also a great time! The house is warm and inviting, though the couches in the main room are nice to the eyes, they are not as comfortable to sit on. We personally spent more time in the back sunroom. The weekend was nothing short of perfect, I can't wait to go back again!!

We found High Meadows searching online and were intrigued by and attracted to it because of its restoration history. Anyone involved in restoring an old home should definitely visit High Meadows. They have good documentation, in word and pictures, of the process of renovation and restoration which we found facinating. We also just had a pleasant and relaxing time. Nancy made us feel immediately "at home". Both breakfasts we had were scrumptious. Hiking along paths through the woods around the Inn and strolling through the little town of Scottsville and along the James River was relaxing. Also, driving around to see the beautiful countryside, neighboring wineries, and historical sites made for a perfect weekend. We'll definitely go back to High Meadows Vineyard Inn!

We were looking for a special place for an anniversary get away and we found it! High Meadows Vineyard Inn is not too far from our home, on the edge of Scottsville, a town so full of history that it almost seems in another world. The Inn is an old home with a wonderful history, beautifully situated, delightfully restored, relaxing, comfortable, well appointed, spotless. We walked in and Nancy immediately made us feel at home. So relaxing. Then the breakfast, wow. It was so good, I do not know how it could have been better. I have been in the lodging business for 30 years and Nancy has got to be the best innkeeper I have ever met.

We spent a wonderful weekend at High Meadows. We stayed in the Peony room, which has a fire place, a 2 person whirl pool tub, and an amazing bed! Very comfy and cozy. One thing to note - there is no shower - only the tub. The inn was quaint and Nancy and Cynthia were very nice and accommodating. The food was outstanding! Lots to do in the area. We chose the wine tour package as well, which included a wonderful lunch. The tour guide was good...an hour late though...but very flexible and willing to travel to the various wineries of our choice. Overall, a wonderful trip! We'd definitely go back!

My boyfriend and I spent two nights here recently and absolutely loved it. I had been wanting to go on a trip to admire the autumn leaves and explore Charlottesville and thought staying in a B&B would add to the trip. Most of the B&Bs I saw in the area didn't seem that appealing – they looked like a Laura Ashley explosion with rooms named after Civil War generals. We're a young couple (mid-late 20s) and wanted something that didn't seem too stodgy or fussy and High Meadows really fit the bill. I was so impressed by how bright and cheerful all of the rooms were and that mood was definitely echoed in the owner Nancy's personality! She was such a wonderful hostess and went out of her way to make sure we had a fantastic visit. We arrived very late on our first night and she'd left us notes in our room to orient us and had a delicious spice cake set out for a late night snack after all of our traveling. We stayed in the Peony room and the king bed gave me the best night's sleep I've had in years. It was so piled high with featherbeds and other comforts that it was almost chest high! I really enjoyed taking bubble baths in the large tub and curling up in front of the crackling fireplace. One thing to know: the tub is in the middle of the room, not in the bathroom, so couples wanting more privacy while bathing (like those newly dating) may want to book a different room. The breakfasts were delicious and filling and incorporated eggs from the property's own chickens and ducks. Nancy also had a nice spread of teas and coffees and snacks that you could help yourself to throughout the day. I felt like I was staying at a friend's house. If I'm in the area again, I'll definitely go back!

My husband and I just returned from a 2-day weekend stay....we just wanted to get away from DC for the weekend, without any big plans. This place was perfect! Just a little south of Charlottesville, about a 2 1/2 hour drive for us. The Inn was interesting, as others have said, the history of the Inn made the stay feel special, but the updates and amenities appealed to the side of me that needed to feel pampered. Each room is unique; the bathrooms are small, as you can imagine in retrofitting a 100+ year old building. Actually, we were a little hesitant as the Inn was full for the weekend, so we took a room with a tub (no shower, although there was a handheld shower)...I thought this would be awkward, since the clawfoot tub is in the room, but in fact, a long soaking bath was one of my favorite parts of the weekend. Although the weather was hot, the room was cool and quite (central air in the main house). The Innkeepers had lots of info on what to do in the area (Wine tours, tubing on the river, Monticello), but mostly we just enjoyed the Inn. Breakfast was great! Daffodil Room recommended! Can't wait for another weekend escape!

My wife and I just returned from a 1 night getaway to the High Meadows Vineyard Inn. This was our 2nd visit, the 1st being 6 years ago when the Inn was owned and operated by different innkeepers. Wow, the new owners have done a wonderful job turning the Inn into an eclectic mix of of contemporary colors, antique furnishings, and interesting personal collections. Nancy was a delight and a gracious hostess. She personally gave us a tour of the entire Inn, showing us each room and pointing out the interesting pieces or collections in each that make the Inn both fun and comfortable. We also appreciate the Inn's efforts at being "green" and enjoyed seeing the small flocks of ducks and chickens roaming about the grounds (which are beautiful!). The Inn manages to be both elegant in appearance and furnishings while being informally comfortable at the same time -- there is no air of pretense here. We stayed in the "Robin's Nest" room, which in our opinion, was the prettiest and best decorated of them all. We'd highly recommend it for a romantic weekend away.. Also, a note regarding dining in Scottsville, which is limited. If you are looking for a good place to eat (not fine dining by any means), check out 330 Valley Street (the name of the restaurant and it's address) located just downtown across the street from the Citgo.

Cynthia and Nancy must take the "breakfast" part of B&B very seriously. The first morning, I awoke to homemade belgian waffles with freshly whipped cream and fresh strawberries. The next morning featured homemade coffeecake, followed by a full eggs, potatoes and sausage breakfast! It was all the more enjoyable to know that each meal had been prepared using eggs from the chickens that were happily pecking around the grounds in the morning. My boyfriend and I came to visit over MLK weekend and it was freezing in Charlottesville, but Nancy and Cynthia made us feel warm and welcome. They even put a space heater in our room on the second night without our even having to ask! We were already cozy anyway, since we stayed in the Peony Room, which has its own fireplace, whirlpool bath and a cloud-like, featherbed-topped bed. We will definitely be back!
