We have been to many B&B's in our travels. This one belongs in the top category of every aspect of what a B&B should be like. It starts with the Innkeeper's. Kittie and David are two exceptionally creative and multi talented people. They are warm, caring and most attentive. Hartzell House should be a standard bearer for B&B's that just don't get it. My husband and I recently stayed at the Hartzell House to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. We have stayed at several B&B's over the past few years and this was hands down the best experience we have had. The room was spotless and beautifully decorated--lots of storage space and my husband loved the extra tall shower. We had the room with the King Bed as we cannot sleep well in smaller beds and it was a memory foam mattress which was exceptionally comfortable and we were excited to get to try one out. The food was incredible!!!! My husband loves waffles and David has a recipe for waffles that my husband declares are the best he has ever had. Breakfast starts with fruit and a warm pastry--I usually pass on the pastries, and was only going to take a taste ..but after I did--I told my husband he would not be getting the rest of my cinnamon roll as I was finishing it myself! Also, snacks were provided to munch on in the evening--we were thrilled to find home made chocolate chip cookies when we arrived late Friday night after being stuck in traffic in Pittsburgh. Best of all----is Kitty and David! They are the nicest people you will ever meet. I have stayed at some B&B's where the inn keepers are not friendly and seem to not want to talk with the guests---not here! Kitty helped me find a special place for us to go for our anniversary dinner and even made the reservations for us. And David--was kind enough to jump my husbands car after my husband accidentally ran down our battery on Saturday--and he did this in the middle of a rain storm and with a smile. I highly recommend the Hartzell House and cannot wait to return!

My husband and I came here for our brief honeymoon several weeks ago. It was marvelous in every way - the breakfasts were amazing, the rooms gorgeous and Dave and Kitty were so lovely and celebratory with us. Plus, there's chocolate everywhere. This has been our best b&b experience and we can't recommend it more highly.

You would be hard pressed to find better accommodations. I have stayed at only a few B & Bs but have stayed at many 4 and 5 star hotels and as for cleanliness, comfort and your needs being catered to, no one out does this. I tried to limit the amount of breakfast that I was going to be served but Kitty reassured me that although the quiche I was ordering could not really be downsized (individual quiche, not a slice) that if I didn't eat it all, her dogs (which were never seen or heard) would get the leftovers. Well, sorry dogs, it was easily the best quiche I have ever had...period. I had several days of non-stop meetings in Pittsburgh before arriving and was feeling like a low-key stay when I arrived. Kitty and Dave both made me feel welcome, left me to my own devices and yet unobtrusively made sure that I had anything I needed. If you're looking for very comfortable beds, in very clean, beautiful surroundings, with wonderful food to get your day going, all orchestrated by the perfect hosts, stay at Hartzell House, you'll be glad you did. My daughters and I chose Hartzell House for the place we would stay for our Fall Getaway and "what a good choice it was"! The Stemac's are wonderful hosts and the most accomodating innkeepers we have experienced. The B&B is lovely and in a quiet setting. The room was very nice, with a most comfortable bed. The food was wonderful with lovely presentation. They even provide snacks of various kinds. All in all they care for their guests.

Elegant and tranquil, the Hartzell House was the perfect place for my husband and I to celebrate our anniversary! Though we were able to stay only two days, we felt as if we had taken an entire week off from the ordinary - every detail, from the food, the decor, and our hosts' kind attention, served to magnify the restorative quality of our visit. The breakfast alone is worth the trip to Addison, PA!

Kathryn and David Stemac were born to be the owners of a B & B! From the moment my husband and I arrived, we felt completely welcomed and marveled at how beautifully this couple has decorated their home! David was wonderful as he gave us the tour of his B & B and poured us glasses of wine to sip as we sunk into their cozy couch and watched one of their movies! Kathryn was just as hospitable, and the food they prepared for us each morning was decadent! They've left no detail unaccounted for from the amazing interior design of each room to chocolates on the beds and snacks left in key spots around the house for grazing throughout the day. We would LOVE to spend another luxurious weekend at the Hartzell House . . . and would love to spend more time getting to know the Stemacs because they really are so sweet! Thanks for a wonderful stay! Jillian and Brian Bane

My husband and I frequently travel. We have stayed at numerous Bed and Breakfasts over the years. The Hartzell House is definitely one of our best experiences. The home is clean and beautifully decorated. Kathryn and David are warm and friendly. The bed we slept in was so comfortable and cozy. We stayed two nights and awoke each morning to a marvelous breakfast. Their stuffed french toast and waffles are fantastic with their signature ginger syrup. We especially appreciated their organizational skills and knowledge of the area. They had numerous pamphlets and brochures (with written directions) to the local restaurants and places of interest. The Hartzell House is wonderful. We highly recommend it.

The thing that sets a Bed & Breakfast apart from staying in a hotel is intimate charm and individual attention. The thing that sets the Hartzell House apart from other B & Bs is the feeling of kinship. Hosts David and Kitty immediately make you feel as if they’ve gone into business in order to meet you. They have the wonderful knack of being attentive while making themselves scarce. They know and enjoy the area attractions but don’t choreograph your day. Their home is your castle and they exist to pamper you. And if you were not into being pampered, they’d probably be good at that too! That’s how intuitive they are. Inside this stately home, floor to ceiling windows, tasteful furnishings and warm color schemes adorn every room. Plush bedding offers up the most comfortable slumber imaginable. Breakfast menus are placed in the foyer each evening, offering a choice of gourmet entrees along with the time you’d prefer to be served. Freshly brewed coffee is available for self-service in the formal dining room (with walls) flanked with framed art from local professionals and bathed in morning sunlight. Light music adds to the welcoming atmosphere and table conversation. Whether you visit this exquisite region to explore the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob, or to tackle outdoor adventures in Ohio Pyle Park, Hartzell House will provide a quiet retreat to complete your day or to revive your spirits before stepping out again.

Dave and Kathryn have done a wonderful job with this place and they are extremely nice people. Hartzell House offers a great blend of period art and contemporary comfort consistent with this early 20th century home. The beds are like sleeping on a cloud, the baths accomodate all modern expectations, there are spacious public areas and all the rooms possess a striking yet comfortable decor. The tasty breakfast provides some interesting variations on traditional fare. I highly recommend this B&B.

This home has both old fashioned charm and modern comfort, beautifully appointed with its original nineteenth century woodwork, creative decor and local art. We stayed in the Traveler’s room which has a very comfortable bed and, since the town was quiet at night, we slept great. In the morning, we were treated to a wonderful breakfast. The fresh cinnamon buns alone are worth the trip not to mention the Belgian waffles with homemade ginger syrup and fresh fruit. David and Kitty were gracious and made us feel very much at home. My husband and I would definitely stay there again!

Kitty and David have done an excellent job designing this historic house and creating a warm, welcoming, beautiful, clean bed & breakfast. I stayed there for two nights (in the "Teachers Room") and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the space, the design and especially the food. On our trip to the Laurel Highlands, our best meals were at Hartzell House - by far. The breakfasts were delicious and presented with artistry. Kitty and David were a pleasure to get to know and they were polite, yet engaging hosts. They were accomodating to our difficult schedule, as well. The rooms were comfortable and clean and offered all the amenities necessary and even luxurious! From snacks, to a hairdryer, to great CDs for a quiet night in the parlor. I would absolutely recommend this bed & breakfast to anyone in the region visiting the Laurel Highlands, Fallingwater, or simply on a getaway. The only thing to note, and a possible point for improvement is ease of payment-- Kitty and David do not accept credit cards and do ask for a deposit by mail, which is a bit onerous these days. Nonetheless, reservation, deposit and payment went by without a problem - I just hope that in the future, if I return, credit card payment will be an option.
