Applewood Manor is without a doubt the nicest and most charming B & B we have ever stayed in....and we are old! Coming up on 60 years of marriage. Nancy and Ralph manage to welcome guests in a most gracious yet warm and friendly way from the moment you step in the door. The charming restoration of the lovely old farmhouse, the furnishings, the cleanliness and Ralph's wonderful breakfasts are difficult to find elsewhere. Applewood Manor even comes complete with resident Golden Retriever, Sampson and cat, Sophie. Well mannerd and not in evidence for those who do not appreciate such company or have allergies, but there for those of us who love that touch. The whole experience puts to rest the old adage "No Rest For The Weary". We rested more than well and couldn't have asked for more.

From the decor to the host and hostess, Applewood Manor Bed and Breakfast is charming. Both indoors and out, the accomodations are outstanding...(it would be a wonderful place for a wedding...) and the attention to detail, especially guest comfort, is apparent everywhere. Breakfasts are delightful, as Ralph concentrates on healthy, delicious meals and Nancy enjoys facilitating conversation in the dining room. We hope to have the opportunity to stay at the Applewood Manor Bed & Breakfast many times in the future.

The first week of October 2009, we spent four nights at Applewood Manor B&B. It is by far the best B&B we have ever stayed in. The location was perfect for our visit to VT to see the Fall Foliage, easily accessible to the main highway, we were able to take day trips to all parts of Vermont. The house sits on 33 acres in the quiet town of Castleton, about 15 minutes west of Rutland, the terrace and gardens are gorgeous, and all the rooms are decorated with beautiful antiques and filled with special personal touches. Our room was incredible, and the main living room where we watched TV in the evening was very cozy. The hosts Nancy and Ralph go out of their way to make you feel at home....we woke up each morning of our stay to a wonderful breakfast cooked by Ralph, and served with elegance by our hostess Nancy... we enjoyed our conversations over breakfast with Nancy and the other guests. In the evening, after a long day of touring on a rainy day, it was like coming back home...Nancy was there to greet us with a smile, and to offer us a hot cup of tea and cookies....She was always available to offer advice, answer questions or just making us feel comfortable in any way. The best part of the day was getting into bed, the best mattress, best pillows and beautiful bedding with down comforters and silk duvets....oh what luxury. Thank you Ralph and Nancy for an unforgettable B&B experience.

Nancy and Ralph were very accommodating, especially when we had to cancel our horseback riding package due to rain; We got a free upgrade to their largest room (Hannah's room). We had a great time chatting with Nancy at breakfast and really enjoyed her afternoon cookies and tea. Nancy was a wonderful guide when it came to recommending fun places to explore in the area. We were visiting from the UK and stayed at Applewood Manor for 3 nights as part of a 2 week road trip of New England. Applewood Manor was by far the best place we stayed during the trip. The rooms are beautifully decorated, clean and very comfortable. The breakfasts are delicious. The house is in a beautiful, quiet spot, on a tree-lined road, and they have lovely gardens. Ralph and Nancy are very welcoming and will go the extra mile to make you comfortable. Ralph literally did go an extra few miles when he drove us to a wedding we were attending in a village 20 minutes away. Overall, Applewood Manor has a relaxing, homely atmosphere and I definitely hope to go back.

From their warm welcome to their warm, hearty breakfasts, Nancy & Ralph's Applewood Manor B&B make you feel right at home! This was our (my Mom & sisters) second visit, which we have all agreed, will be our annual "Mom & Daughters Getaway." I title my review "Home Away from Home," because one of my sister's & I follow a Gluten Free lifestyle, & we both feel challenged when we travel. However, Nancy & Ralph were happy to accommodate us & provided an excellent breakfast for us each morning of our stay. The furnishings are beautiful, yet cozy. Nancy is wonderful at suggesting area sites & activities. The visits I have enjoyed at Applewood Manor have added such precious memories of time spent with my family.

The grounds are beautifully maintained. Our room was extremely clean and comfortable. We spent the 4th of July sipping wine with friends outside on the beautiful porch listening to fireworks in the distance. The breakfast was delicious and included fresh fruit, coffee and two kinds of tea, blueberry pancakes with strawberries, sausages and also banana bread and two types of juices. The rooms are outstanding, well decorated, comfy, and private. The service is above and beyond!!! The cleanliness/value met my expectations...this was my first stay at a B&B. I did not require any food service whilst there as I have particular needs (in that department) so, I am not in the position of comment. I am vegan and and allergic to mushrooms...I am not thrilled to have to arrange any menu's on travel. It would be nice if a (any) B&B, hotel, motel, etc. made the effort to sort out that 'alternative' prior to arrival. No concessions (discounts) were made towards my decline in breakfasts. A great stay nevertheless!!! I would return!!!

We recently traveled to Vermont for a wedding in Manchester, and decided to add 2 additional days on to our trip, just so we could stay at Applewood Manor in Castleton again! :) It is still, by far, THE best B & B we've ever stayed at, and we do travel often! We stayed in Hannah's Room this time, which was luxurious, with it's enormous, comfy pillow-top bed, and clean, spacious bathroom! Since we stayed for 2 nights this time, we were able to take advantage of the lovely Guest Lounge, with it's cozy couches, fireplace, and variety of DVD movies to watch on the TV. Breakfast was absolutely phenominal, VERY gourmet! You will not go hungry here! :) Having late afternoon tea and spending some time reading in the "library-like" living room area was one of my favorite parts of this trip. Nancy and Ralph are an absolute delight to be around, as is their sweet, gentle dog Samson, whom we just LOVE!! We enjoyed exploring the Castleton/Rutland area, and particularly enjoyed a nice dinner at the nearby "Trolley Stop" restaurant. We definitely plan to visit Applewood Manor again this summer- the pool looks awesome! I highly recommend this wonderfully relaxing getaway- it is EVERYTHING a Bed and Breakfast should be, and more! :)

Ralph and Nancy gave us excellent advice on where to dine in the area, and their breakfasts were great. Plus, they can't do enough for you, without being intrusive. Location was very good - only 15 minutes from Rutland and 35 from Killington. Great value for the price, and we look forward to returning there again.

This time, we brought friends and family to enjoy this lovely B&B. Our party of 7 booked all but one room in the house and had a wonderful time. My husband and I stayed in Noah's room (my favorite) this time, but every room is special - beautifully decorated and comfortable, with features like pillowtop mattresses, sumptuous linens, and modern bath fixtures, all the while retaining the historic character of the home. It's such a great place to stay - great hosts, great food, and great location. Next time, we'll try for summer - and the pool!

This was our second stay at Applewood Manor Bed & Breakfast and it was as delightful as the first time. It is tastefully and beautifully decorated to the period in which the home was built; the breakfasts were delightful and healthy - the maple syrup was collected from the grounds at Applewood Manor! The accommodations were very comfortable, especially the beds with down comforters and very soft sheets. Also, the towels and bath rugs were soft and fluffy. The Inn, including our room, was sparkling clean. The Innkeepers are very cordial and made us feel at home immediately, and again on our second visit. It is without hesitation that we recommend, and have recommended, the Applewood Manor to our family and friends. Thank you. Joan and Art

We enjoyed the Applewood so much. Our bed was so comfortable and everything was very clean. Waking up to the amazing breakfast (everything is homemade and delicious) each day was such a treat and we enjoyed the other guests at the inn very much. All our needs were met with great attention to detail. We loved the dog, the grounds and it was great to be able to walk a short distance to go out to dinner. I would go back to the Applewood Manor is a heartbeat. It was quite peaceful and inviting.

If you are ever able to visit this area of Vermont you must stay here if possible. Our 4 day stay here was out of this world. Nancy and Ralph , the owners could not do enough for you, although Nancy did send us to the Bottle Museum and The Battle Museum after consulting the Internet. The bedrooms are very well presented with nice extra touches. Breakfasts were amazing and Nancy's homemade cakes are lovely. Everything about this place was too good to be true and I would reccommend it to anyone.

What a beautiful place! We stayed in Hannah's Room and it is huge - counting the large bathroom - it is probably as big as my house. The bed is huge, too and has the softest sheets. There are two rooms for guests to use which is nice if you don't want to watch TV and someone else does. The hosts go out of their way to make you comfortable, which I really appreciated. They even researched a day trip for us and printed out a map. The best part for me was the morning coffee - it was excellent. I would go back to Applewood Manor in a heartbeat.

Although we only spent one night at the Inn, it was without a doubt the accommodation highlight of a two week tour of New England in the Fall. Nancy & Ralph are to be congratulated on the quality of the Inn's furniture and decoration. It has obviously been a labour of love and the final product is a credit to them both. We stayed in Noah's Room and as someone interested in American History it was a joy to stay in such a room. Breakfast was excellent, the informal setting where guests could have a chat whilst enjoying wonderful food was a nice touch. Our only regret was that we stayed for just one night. We have no hesitation in recommending this inn to anyone looking for something a little bit special.

Previously, when asked if I had ever stayed at a B & B I would always say, 'no, I'm not a B & B kind of 'girl'.' Well, that was before our recent 6 night stay at Applewood Manor while visiting our son and family at nearby Lake Bomoseen. If a Hollywood Agent were scouting a location for a movie set in a B & B in a small VT town, they would not go wrong choosing Applewood. It is just what one would imagine the perfect B & B to be. Idyllic setting, immaculately clean, perfectly furnished and gracious hosts. I made myself right at home and as we had Sarah's room which is on the first floor, the parlor, with TV was convenient for my 'must see TV' fix. And yes, we would definitely stay here again.

My husband and I just got back from a fun road trip through New England. Vermont was our first destination, and we stayed one night at the incredible Applewood Manor- what an AMAZING place!! :) From the moment we got there, we knew we were in for a treat. We were warmly greated by ours hosts, Nancy and Ralph, who are just the sweetest people! They offered us a complimentary glass of wine and cookies while we relaxed on the lovely, spacious porch. After getting settled we had a look around the house, which is decorated beautifully. I am REALLY big on cleanliness, and this place was IMMACULATE- everything sparkled! We stayed in the smallest room, and it was SO cozy and perfect! A LOT of attention was paid to details of the room- a SUPER comfortable bed with sheets that smelled wonderful, chocolates, a binder filled with helpful info about the area, and a nice clean bathroom with amenities right down the hall. (This is the only room that didnt have the bathroom IN it, but they provide soft, comfy bathrobes for you to wear from room to room!) The rest of the house is gorgeous- there is a living room area just for guests, complete with a TV, DVD player and interesting books....A HUGE kitchen that makes for good conversation with the hosts (they even let us keep stuff in their freezer overnight!), a big, green yard with a swimming pool and great views, and best of all, a fabulous dining room where a DELICIOUS (and VERY attractive!) breakfast is served each morning! They are EXCELLENT cooks!!!! They even have a super-friendly dog that is happy to pose for pictures! :) Overall, this was, without a doubt THE nicest B & B I've ever stayed in- and I've been all over the world. The house itself is charming, but the hosts are what made this place such a delight- you really do feel like you are one of their personal guests. We will definetely find a reason to travel back to Vermont, even if it is only to relax at Applewood Manor!

We spent a wonderful weekend at the Applewood Manor in July when we went to Vermont to celebrate an anniversary of relatives of ours. Our room was lovely with tasteful New Engalnd decor. In fact the whole Inn was beautifully and lovingly furnished. We had a very nice bedroom with private bath on the first floor. There is a very comfortable living room, a cozy sitting room and dining room - Each room is really pleasant to relax in and feels like home. The breakfasts were truly delicious, cooked and served by Nancy and Ralph, our hosts. It really did feel like we were welcome personal guests. They are a delightful couple. There is also a large swimming pool and we spent a good part of one afternoon enjoying some sun and swimming. The grounds are lovely as well. We hope to get back to Applewood Manor many times.

I'm not into bed and breakfasts so when I had to visit Castleton, Vermont, in connection with a book I've written my first choice was a dorm at the state college there. Nothing available, but the college suggested nearby Applewood Manor. I resigned myself to staying there, and it was the right decision. Ralph and Nancy were not only gracious hosts, but they went out of their way to make me feel at home. Breakfasts were unbeatable. The accommodations were beyond expectations. And to top it off history oozes from the building and the village. For an historian like me the stay couldn't have been better. And the cost was what I would have expected at a local motel. I hope another book takes me back to Castleton and to Applewood Manor.

We too stumbled on the Applewood Manor while shopping on-line for a B&B in Vermont. From the minute Nancy met us at the door upon our arrival, we knew we had found just the right spot and I was even happier when she showed us our room which was "Noah's" room and remembered that we were in Vermont for two days. Our vacation was a mix of time spent in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont staying in B&B's along the way and I have to say that none of the others compared to our time spent in Vermont with Nancy and Ralph at the Applewood Manor. Their home is so tastefully decorated, the grounds are beautiful and the B&B experience with Nancy and Ralph is much more than most enhanced by their genuine warm and friendly personalities and eagerness to make your stay an enjoyable one. Applewood Manor Bed & Breakfast - Castleton, Vermont: "An absolutely beautiful home, a wonderful destination with super hosts!" Our accommodations at Applewood Manor were among the best I've had in my many travels. The property is a wonderfully updated home whose construction began in the late 1700s, a mix of old with modern with bathrooms that are totally 21st century. Because of back problems, I really appreciated having a bed with an excellent mattress. The hosts, Nancy and Ralph, were so very warm and accommodating to all of our needs and not pushy. Breakfasts were delicious and served in very gracious style. Applewood Manor B&B is located in the small Vermont town of Castleton which is in the western and central part of the state. One could be very happy just relaxing at the Manor and the immediate area or using this as a place from which to roam and experience all that the area/region has to offer. Activities abound year round.

My husband and I needed accommodations in Castleton so we could attend my step-daughter's graduation from Castleton State College. I did some research on the Internet and finally stumbled on the Applewood Manor. I've discovered that a website communicates a great deal about a property. If it is attractively designed, then usually the b&b is also appealing. I fell for Applewood's website, the descriptions of the rooms and house making me eager to book in there. We weren't disappointed. Nancy and Ralph have transformed this residence, dating back to the 1700s (they're only the fourth owner), incorporating the original feel of the place into their renovations. I've never experienced so much attention to detail. The whole house is a treasure. Antiques fill each room, contributing to the beauty of the place. I wanted to linger and look at each piece, from the lovely guest parlor on the main floor and the dining room where breakfast is served, to the guest rooms. Each one has a distinctive color theme and charm. We chose Hannah's room because of the Kingsize bed, the most comfortable one I've ever slept in. We stayed two nights, and we've never slept so well. Not only was the room a generous size, but the bathroom was as big as most bedrooms. What an experience! I felt we should be paying more than the rate they're currently charging just for the honor of staying there. We've never been treated so graciously by hosts. It felt like we were truly guests in their house and not strangers seeking a bed for the night. Breakfasts were delicious, and Nancy and Ralph were eager to help us in any way they could. Our only regret is that we live in California, too far away to make this b&b a regular destination. But if we're ever in the area again, we wouldn't stay anywhere else, and we can highly recommend it to others. Castleton and the Applewood Manor provide a great home base for exploring all the beauty that Vermont offers.
