The first week of October 2009, we spent four nights at Applewood Manor B&B. It is by far the best B&B we have ever stayed in. The location was perfect for our visit to VT to see the Fall Foliage, easily accessible to the main highway, we were able to take day trips to all parts of Vermont.
The house sits on 33 acres in the quiet town of Castleton, about 15 minutes west of Rutland, the terrace and gardens are gorgeous, and all the rooms are decorated with beautiful antiques and filled with special personal touches. Our room was incredible, and the main living room where we watched TV in the evening was very cozy.
The hosts Nancy and Ralph go out of their way to make you feel at home....we woke up each morning of our stay to a wonderful breakfast cooked by Ralph, and served with elegance by our hostess Nancy... we enjoyed our conversations over breakfast with Nancy and the other guests. In the evening, after a long day of touring on a rainy day, it was like coming back home...Nancy was there to greet us with a smile, and to offer us a hot cup of tea and cookies....She was always available to offer advice, answer questions or just making us feel comfortable in any way. The best part of the day was getting into bed, the best mattress, best pillows and beautiful bedding with down comforters and silk duvets....oh what luxury. Thank you Ralph and Nancy for an unforgettable B&B experience.

Quiet, Peaceful, Calm, Relaxing, Clean and Delicious! The property inside and out is gorgeous. Nancy, Ralph, Sophie and Samson were all so nice and helpful. If you are traveling to Vermont and visiting the Castleton area, you have found the right B&B! The house was built in the 1800's and the innkeepers have done an amazing job of maintaining the history and charm the house offers. Applewood Manor is enchanting. Thank you, we had a great time! We recently traveled to Vermont for a wedding in Manchester, and decided to add 2 additional days on to our trip, just so we could stay at Applewood Manor in Castleton again! :) It is still, by far, THE best B & B we've ever stayed at, and we do travel often! We stayed in Hannah's Room this time, which was luxurious, with it's enormous, comfy pillow-top bed, and clean, spacious bathroom! Since we stayed for 2 nights this time, we were able to take advantage of the lovely Guest Lounge, with it's cozy couches, fireplace, and variety of DVD movies to watch on the TV. Breakfast was absolutely phenominal, VERY gourmet! You will not go hungry here! :) Having late afternoon tea and spending some time reading in the "library-like" living room area was one of my favorite parts of this trip. Nancy and Ralph are an absolute delight to be around, as is their sweet, gentle dog Samson, whom we just LOVE!! We enjoyed exploring the Castleton/Rutland area, and particularly enjoyed a nice dinner at the nearby "Trolley Stop" restaurant. We definitely plan to visit Applewood Manor again this summer- the pool looks awesome! I highly recommend this wonderfully relaxing getaway- it is EVERYTHING a Bed and Breakfast should be, and more! :) View Reviewer Info

Previously, when asked if I had ever stayed at a
B & B I would always say, 'no, I'm not a B & B kind of 'girl'.' Well, that was before our recent 6 night stay at Applewood Manor while visiting our son and family at nearby Lake Bomoseen. If a Hollywood Agent were scouting a location for a movie set in a
B & B in a small VT town, they would not go wrong choosing Applewood. It is just what one would imagine the perfect B & B to be. Idyllic setting, immaculately clean, perfectly furnished and gracious hosts. I made myself right at home and as we had Sarah's room which is on the first floor, the parlor, with TV was convenient for my 'must see TV' fix.
And yes, we would definitely stay here again. View Reviewer Info

My husband and I just got back from a fun road trip through New England. Vermont was our first destination, and we stayed one night at the incredible Applewood Manor- what an AMAZING place!! :) From the moment we got there, we knew we were in for a treat. We were warmly greated by ours hosts, Nancy and Ralph, who are just the sweetest people! They offered us a complimentary glass of wine and cookies while we relaxed on the lovely, spacious porch. After getting settled we had a look around the house, which is decorated beautifully. I am REALLY big on cleanliness, and this place was IMMACULATE- everything sparkled! We stayed in the smallest room, and it was SO cozy and perfect! A LOT of attention was paid to details of the room- a SUPER comfortable bed with sheets that smelled wonderful, chocolates, a binder filled with helpful info about the area, and a nice clean bathroom with amenities right down the hall. (This is the only room that didnt have the bathroom IN it, but they provide soft, comfy bathrobes for you to wear from room to room!) The rest of the house is gorgeous- there is a living room area just for guests, complete with a TV, DVD player and interesting books....A HUGE kitchen that makes for good conversation with the hosts (they even let us keep stuff in their freezer overnight!), a big, green yard with a swimming pool and great views, and best of all, a fabulous dining room where a DELICIOUS (and VERY attractive!) breakfast is served each morning! They are EXCELLENT cooks!!!! They even have a super-friendly dog that is happy to pose for pictures! :) Overall, this was, without a doubt THE nicest B & B I've ever stayed in- and I've been all over the world. The house itself is charming, but the hosts are what made this place such a delight- you really do feel like you are one of their personal guests. We will definetely find a reason to travel back to Vermont, even if it is only to relax at Applewood Manor!

My husband and I needed accommodations in Castleton so we could attend my step-daughter's graduation from Castleton State College. I did some research on the Internet and finally stumbled on the Applewood Manor. I've discovered that a website communicates a great deal about a property. If it is attractively designed, then usually the b&b is also appealing. I fell for Applewood's website, the descriptions of the rooms and house making me eager to book in there. We weren't disappointed.
Nancy and Ralph have transformed this residence, dating back to the 1700s (they're only the fourth owner), incorporating the original feel of the place into their renovations. I've never experienced so much attention to detail. The whole house is a treasure. Antiques fill each room, contributing to the beauty of the place. I wanted to linger and look at each piece, from the lovely guest parlor on the main floor and the dining room where breakfast is served, to the guest rooms. Each one has a distinctive color theme and charm.
We chose Hannah's room because of the Kingsize bed, the most comfortable one I've ever slept in. We stayed two nights, and we've never slept so well. Not only was the room a generous size, but the bathroom was as big as most bedrooms. What an experience! I felt we should be paying more than the rate they're currently charging just for the honor of staying there.
We've never been treated so graciously by hosts. It felt like we were truly guests in their house and not strangers seeking a bed for the night. Breakfasts were delicious, and Nancy and Ralph were eager to help us in any way they could.
Our only regret is that we live in California, too far away to make this b&b a regular destination. But if we're ever in the area again, we wouldn't stay anywhere else, and we can highly recommend it to others. Castleton and the Applewood Manor provide a great home base for exploring all the beauty that Vermont offers. View Reviewer Info
