My husband and I stayed in the 'Miranda' Room for our wedding anniversary and we had a great time. We loved that it was walking distance from Mainstreet (but not too close). Breakfasts were great and the atmosphere was amazing. We played scrabble in the main room late one night and met friendly people at breakfast. We hope to return soon!

At our check-in we were greeted by the innkeeper who was very friendly, personable, and extremely helpful. He showed us the Inn and provided useful details. The inn and grounds around the inn are very impressive. Our room, the Art Deco Suite, matched its name. It was roomy, clean, and very comfortable. Breakfast was a three course meal that was excellent, from the fresh strawberries to the french toast. I would highly recommend the James Mulvey Inn to anyone wanting a wonderful getaway in a quaint town like Stillwater.

It was very nice there at the James Mulvey Inn. It was my 1st visit to Stillwater, MN and my 1st time staying in a Bed and Breakfast. I was very confortable, the staff was very nice, good selection for breakfast, and the room was beautiful (I loved the jet tub). I would most likely go back to stay again and refer people that will be traveling that way to defanantly choose there to stay.

We stayed in the Art Deco suite, which was absolutely lovely. Because it is located in the carriage house, which is to the back of the main house, there is lots of peace and quiet. Which is exactly what we came for! You lose the sense of being in a residential neighborhood and really feel like you are somewhere secluded. The Art Deco suite is beautifully decorated and surprisingly roomy. We were delighted to find that breakfast would be served in-room. They brought a tray loaded with breakfast goodies--scones, eggs, sausage, and my favorite, grilled grapefruit. The innkeeper is a lovely woman who made us feel very welcome, as did the other folks working there. It was a great experience! We would love to visit again.

This was my first stay (4 nights) and I was very happy with it. The Art Deco suite was perfect; very quiet which is what I wanted. Cynthia is a wonderful hostess and chef; every breakfast was made with care. All the right touches and delicious. I used the internet every day; no problems connecting up quickly. The inn is decorated beautifully; very relaxing atmosphere and in a very nice neighborhood. Enjoyed many early evening walks. Minutes away from downtown Stillwater. I will definitely recommend Mulvey Inn to others and I will be back. THANK YOU for a most enjoyable visit. Mrs. J. Nastasi, San Jose, CA

My husband and I have just spent a wonderful weekend in Stillwater at the James Mulvey Inn in the 'James' room. The house and the room were just lovely - beautiful furnishings, a most comfortable bed and tasty breakfasts made it a weekend to remember. We were certainly well taken care of thanks to Cynthia and her summer intern.

To date, we have stayed at the James Mulvey Inn twice and we loved it more the second time and anticipate that we will love still more the third! We enjoyed our privacy in this Victorian era B&B had plenty to do to keep ourselves occupied during our two night stay. The parlor affords a wonderful opportunity to sit and read, or play a game, or to just socialize, and the dining room is cozy and is just right for mingling with the other guests and talking about what brought each person out. This is where we have celebrated two anniversaries and we hope to celebrate many, many more. Great food, great accommodations, and great inn keeper (in a great town)!!!

My wife and I stayed for a midwinter retreat, and though it was frigid outside, our room was cozy, immaculately clean, and beautifully furnished. The innkeeper was a wonderful host--probably the best and most thoughtful we've ever had at a B&B--and the breakfast won us over in a big way. Additionally, his chocolate torte sent us over the edge!

Our entire family stayed at the Mulvey during a family reunion weekend and Oh My! his breakfast souffle with gouda cheese poofing out of it..was the best! The Inn is lovely, as beautiful as Stillwater itself! Teary obliged us with the fascinating history. We have already booked our family trip for next year, and he has promised to do the souffle for us! Thank you Teary for being the perfect host/chef/chief of staff/historian, etc, etc. It shows that being an innkeeper is your niche in life! Thanks again and see you next year! "The room was lovely, the breakfast was not!" 11/3/2008

The inn itself is a lovely piece of property. Teary was a kind host albeit a little bit overworked (he does all of the cooking, cleaning and manages the property). We paid for a suite room which included an in-room breakfast and we were told that if he didn't get help the next morning we would have to eat with everyone else. This would have been good to know when making the reservation. The room was lovely ... very cozy and well decorated. The previous owners put a lot of time into the inn and that is apparent. The tub was large enough for two people to fit quite comfortably and we enjoyed the privacy and the warmth of the gas fireplace. What we were shocked by was the breakfast. It began with some canned pineapple and a maraschino cherry in a tiny cup. Then, it was followed by what looked to be an tiny eggo waffle but turned out to be a homemade waffle that had been previously made but frozen. It was cold, served with fresh bananas and strawberries and a huge lot of whipped cream and one tiny sausage. That was followed by a piece of pound cake that was very delicious but was covered with whipped cream and yet another maraschino cherry. Now, one can put whipped cream on just about anything but it doesn't hide the fact that we were incredibly disappointed in our substandard breakfast. Was surprised the canned pineapple didn't have canned whipped cream as well? Part of going to a bed and breakfast is to enjoy the breakfast and we did not ... when we left we went to get food. If you don't care about enjoyed a good breakfast, stay here. The room was lovely and we enjoyed ourselves overall because we were able to make the best of the situation. Teary obviously needs help running this inn.

Innkeeper Response
Teary's prowess with breakfast is evident by his other reviews and I'm sorry that these guests had a problem with it. In any case, please rest assured that since I have returned to running my inn, I always serve fresh fruit, made-from-scratch delectible main courses, and everything is served hot or cold as appropriate! In addition I've got adequate help and we are happy to welcome and pamper all who stay with us!!

The old home was lovely and the antiques exceptional. The hospitality of our host, Terry, was over the top. His breakfasts are wonderful and the sleeping accommodations more than comfortable, bordering on decadent. We'll be back.

The James Mulvery Inn is under new management. Terry is a fabulous innkeeper - friendly with great stories of his life's adventures and a local with knowledge of the area. He makes the inn so comfortable. It was lovely sitting out on the screen porch enjoying the garden and his delicious breakfasts. Good value for the Stillwater area also. For dining in town I recommend STONES or MARX.
