Driving the Northern CA. coast for a 2-wk. vacation brought us to our first B&B experience at the McCloud RR House B&B for 2 days. Diane, one of the inkeepers, made us feel like family from our first meeting thru our departure. Ed, her partner, was out of town when we visited - however she spoke of him often and allowed us to view the amazing video story of how the train cars got from the point of purchase to their property. Two really hard working owners dedicated to making all visitors welcomed and enjoy the experience of their life at their B&B. Exceptionally knowledgeable about the history of the town, and you'll love the tour of their RR cars. Their rooms are very clean and well appointed and the privacy of the guests is well respected by the owners. Diane is quite the cook as you'll love her breakfasts. This B&B was like to other that we've stayed at before. Her attention to detail and the surprises in store for you are special. We stayed there mid-Oct. timeframe when the trees were in a spectacular array of fall colors and the weather was cool and comfortable. We will visit Diane and Ed again at the McCloud RR House B&B. It's the best!!! Laura in Foothill Ranch, CA.

This was our first "Bed and Breakfast" experience, and we are so thankful that it was at the McCloud Railroad House. Diane and Ed not only are the Innkeepers, but when we left, it felt more like we were leaving family. Every detail was incredible, the rooms are comfortable and impeccably decorated, the food and atmosphere was excellent, and to add even more to our visit, Ed and Diane emailed us 26 pictures of our weekend...words cannot express how truly touched we are with their hospitality and how they truly bent over backwards to make out weekend special. My wife and I cannot wait to come back. Ralph and Valerie Emerson

Every good thing that has been written is all true. Beautiful, well maintained grounds and rooms. Warm, friendly and informative hosts. Interesting tour and things to see and learn. Thoughtful details including pictures taken of your stay and e-mailed to you. Diane was very informative upon our check-in and gave us maps and told us about different things to do in the area and places to eat. Diane and Ed are easy going and warm but don't hover. So many thoughtful details above and beyond the chocolate mints on the pillow you sometimes get (which we got, too!) make it easy for me to recommend the McCloud Railroad House B&B above any other.

We had a wonderful stay at this Bed and Breakfast! It was the perfect complement to our railroad trip. When we got there, Diane greeted us with maps and other information about what we could do while at McCloud. She showed us around the house, which had beautiful decor and many amenities. I appreciated all the ways they made us comfortable--brownies and snacks on the table, sodas in the fridge, candies in our room. They had towels, a robe, shampoos and soaps, magazines, books, and even a video about the railroad we could watch on the tv downstairs. Diane showed us their vast collection of railroad memorabilia--lanterns, locks, and 2 renovated cabooses on the front lawn. Before we left, Diana took our picture as a souvenir and printed us a copy to take home the next day. The bed was cozy and comfortable and we slept well. Breakfast was excellent! It was the perfect complement to our excellent meal on the dinner train the night before! We appreciated all they did--we felt they went over and beyond what we paid! We will return again next time we visit McCloud.

Diane & Ed are just wonderful hosts - we arrived here in need of a refuge after a difficult few weeks, and they made us feel completely cared for, looked after and nurtured. The food is wonderful and lovingly prepared, and there are snacks and beverages available all the time. It was fascinating to get the tour of the caboose, and they are very knowledgeable about the area, and where to go to satisfy needs from hiking to food to history . . . We are very much looking forward to going back as soon as we can!

The wealth of knowledge AND the breakfast's WOW! I am a 200+ lb. man and I was full! Thank you Ed & Diane for letting us stay in your home. We will see you next year (hopefully if you are still the owners) on our Anniversary. Best of luck to you if you move down south.

Our stay with Ed & Diane was just like being home. My wife and I loved the atmosphere of the place. Ed and I spent quite awhile Saturday morning talking over coffee and I learned quite a lot about the history of the area and about the railroad hobby that Diane and Ed was involved in. Diane took the time in the early morning to give us a tour of the place because we were going to be gone all day. She took our photo out by one of the train cars, and had a wonderful print of it waiting for us when we returned that evening. We have family in the area and plan to stay with Diane & Ed when we come to visit again.

I was given the task of entertaining relatives from Los angeles. I decided McLoud would give them a good taste of the great outdoors that I love so much. I tried to cram in as much as I could in just a few short days that they were here. I ended up needing a different check in time, and an earlier breakfast time than they are used to. Diane didn't miss a beat and had everything ready to go early in the morning so we could make our morning event on schedule. They were great and I would definately stay there again.

We had a fantastic stay here - right from our arrival our hosts were welcoming and friendly. We got shown our lovely room, then were given a tour of the railway memorabilia which was outstanding. Our hosts could not do enough for us, and the whole stay was one of the best we have ever experienced. The breakfasts were some of the best we had in the US, and were served with a smile. The whole atmosphere was very comfortable and homely. The room had everything we could ask for and more, and was excellent value. I would recommend a trip on the Sunset dinner train while you are there too.

This home is located in McCloud, just south of the city of Mt Shasta. We stayed there to ride the Shasta Dinner Train for our anniversary. The home is very lovely inside and out. Inside is very warm and welcoming. Outside is nicely landscaped and has many full size train items, ranging from lanterns to crossing warning poles, to old 'speeder cars', to actual cabooses. If you are at all interested in trains, then this is the place for you. Diane and Ed were very gracious hosts and made us feel very welcome and at home. They took photos of us, which upon our return from the dinner train, we found printed and in our room along with wine glasses, sparkling cider, and a lovely note! In the morning, Ed & Diane fixed us a fantastic breakfast that was so good we made ourselves finish it all even though half the amount would have been just fine! All in all, we had a great stay and will always remember this anniversary trip.

The furnishings are period - the railroad artifact collection is extensive. Breakfast was yummy and plentiful. The rooms vary considerably in spaciousness or lack of - reflected in the pricing. McCloud is a quaint, one-horse railroad town; originally a mill town. It's in a lovely region of northern California, and the hosts have beaucoup suggestions as to what to see and do.

Diane and Ed spoiled us which is just what we needed after dealing with all the fires in our town of Paradise. Their property is amazing and every piece of railroad equipment has it's own story. We loved the tour of the two rail cars on their property. The house was very homey and comfortable and the food was very good. I would highly recommend this B&B to anyone who would like to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet and the quaint small town of McCloud. My dad and i stayed in the train room, with a bunk bed and a fold-out couch. The ladder to the top bunk didn't reach the ground, but otherwise it was pretty good. The owners, were incredibly nice and they even bought a huge packet of cereal just for me. It was really interesting how obsessed they were with trains and how much they wanted to tell us about them. They have two cabooses in their backyard! It was the best B&B I've ever stayed at.
