It's too bad these 6 women did not report these problems to the Handyman when he brought them fire wood and built them a fire the night they arrived. Only when they were leaving did they mention anything about the water. They never mentioned anything about a door lock problem on the french doors either. The French Doors face a forest and up until now, no one has ever requested or suggested coverings for the doors.
When the handyman went to check on the water, he could not find a problem. Perhaps a different style is in order. One that is not so complicated to turn on.
The only time they called about anything was to tell us that we shorted them money when they checked in. They called back a few minutes later when they discovered that they found their money. That is when I discovered they had not been charged for 2 additional people.
People have rented the Villa for days, weeks and months at a time and come back regularly and sometimes repeat their stay every year about the same time. They find it a great place to have family and large groups since it is a large unit facing the forest and isolated from the main building.

My wife and I stayed at this inn 2 times between 1999-2001 (before we were married) and had the most wonderful time. The Inn was beautifully made up, with lots of antique type decorations adorning the inn. There was a cozy area in the common area where books could be read or games could be played, while enjoying a glass of wine. We recently went this last week to get a short weekend (during the week) away from our 2 year old before we have our next babies (twins!) in July. There must be a new owner or something, because the inn was nothing like it was when we had vistited before. When we arrived, we had to wait outside a locked door for several minutes until a guy came around from the side and let us in. When we got in I was greeted by a lady who said "what's your last name, and let me have your credit card." No, "Welcome to the Storybook Inn," no nothing. After waiting several minutes in the room that had previously been the common area (which is now part of their restaurant), someone came back with my credit card, took us to our room, and that was it. There was no information about when breakfast would be, what activities were available, nothing. Things didn't get any better. Looking at the mirrored closet door, we realized that a pair of shoes from some other guest or something were under the bed, and a pillow was stained. We decided that we weren't going to waste our money on this property and asked to leave. We paid for the first night, although we were only there for an hour or so because that was their policy. The only reason that I didn't mind paying the one night is because they allowed us to reschedule twice, on very short notice. I'm just shocked at the condition of this place since we stayed there last time, it seems to be the primary focus is on the restaurant, and the inn has declined. I didn't eat anything, but it didn't give me the option to not rate the dining. View Reviewer Info

I am sorry this guest was not happy with the Inn. They only stayed for about 20 minutes and we were told they did not need a tour of the Inn since they had been here before. I personally checked the "stained pillow" and saw no such stain. My housekeeper is extremely
sensitive about this. There were shoes for a 2 year old under the bed. They were left there unknowingly by my housekeeper's granddaughter and not by a previous guest.
The only antiques that have been removed from the Inn were items that were hanging on the wall in the breakfast room. They were essentially old items and could by no means be considered antiques. Some people even considered them an eyesore and some people considered them junk items. We have repainted the wall, added some mural type decorations around the windows and lovely pictures on the wall instead of old items. We have been told that the room is much brighter and more pleasant to sit in and enjoy since it has been redecorated.
They were offered another room but the gentleman insisted that since his wife was pregnant with twins, and that it was just better not to argue with her.
I had changed their reservation twice before, without penalty, and out of respect elected not to charge them for the entire amount.
I am sorry they did not give us a chance to make amends or take us up on our hospitality. 30 minutes in any place is hardly enough time to rate or judge any type of establishment.

I am sorry you found the eclectic atmosphere of the Inn not up to your standards. The building is over 70 years old and most people find it quite charming and cozy, as you will note from other reviews.
The rooms are not designed to be all of the same style. Instead, they are decorated in the style of the room’s theme. Tom Sawyer is decorated to have a feeling of that period. Such is the same with Arabian Knights and Swiss Family Robinson which is designed to have a feel of a tree house. Captain’s Quarters is designed to look like the quarters for the ship’s Captain. All of the other rooms reflect the theme of the room, which may explain why you think the rooms have that “Goodwill” feeling.
Some people find it quite delightful and enjoy the fact the rooms are themed and not the same as in a “cookie cutter” traditional hotel. Since I am not sure which room you may have stayed in, I can not speak to that specific room. All of the rooms have the carpets shampooed and window coverings cleaned twice a year.
All of the staff, both restaurant and lodging staff, make every effort to ensure our guests feel comfortable and at home.
I am glad you enjoyed the food and the view.

My first B&B stay, keep in mind I really didn't know what to expect.
The innkeeper dude (sorry, don't remember who) was very nice when I checked in on a friday evening for my two-night stay, and he gave me the tour of the many amenities available. Then up to my room - the Robin Hood Room. I needed an iron so I could fix my good shirt for the wedding I was attending in the morning - the room didn't have an iron, but innkeeper dude got me one in less than a minute of my request (seriously, that was awesome).
For dinner I went downstairs to the restaurant, and had the Melanzane Ripiene - amazingly good, as was the homemade soup. Later I found that a cozy bed with lots of blankets/pillows was not a good idea in 80+degree weather. There was a small room fan that I aimed at the bed, and the windows run the length of the room, unfortunately they face the highway and it was kinda noisy with the windows open all the way (being hot at night in bed is not fun, but this wasn't the B&B's fault). On the main photo of the Inn, this room is the one at the top center of the building with the double wide windows.
Breakfast wasn't what I was expecting after the wonderful dinner - buffet style, but kind of plain/simple. The special french toast was yummy. The view of the valley made up for it.
The Inn is right next to a "shortcut" main road down to the highway around the lake, so it was only a 10 minute drive to the other side. Came back late that night and it was still well lit. The weather had cooled and the room temp was much better, and with the fan and open windows I slept like a log in the very comfortable foofy bed, even missed breakfast. In colder weather it must be heaven to curl up under the covers in that bed. Checkout was a breeze.
The price was lower than most in the area. The room was clean, well decorated in the Robin Hood theme, not a 5-star hotel, I'd compare it to staying in a relative's guest room, that's all I wanted for this trip. View Reviewer Info

My wife and I just spent three nights at the Storybook Inn near Lake Arrowhead. Over all we were very happy with our stay. It was exactly what we were looking for, a quiet, peaceful retreat. If you are looking for first class, top end accomodations, this is not your place. If you are looking for spacious rooms, awesome views, quiet grounds, a friendly staff, easy 5 minute drive to Lake Arrowhead, then this is your place!
Our room, Tom Sawyer was a very comfortable nice large suite type set up with a sleeping area as well as a living area. This room has a nice wood burning stove with a glass front that we used each night. It made for a very warm and cozy atmosphere. We especially loved the solarium where we sat all day enjoying the view, the nice breeze, and were able to read and study for hours on end. The breakfast was very good, and hearty. It consisted of scrambled eggs, sasuage, delicious biscuits and gravy, along with many breads, fruits, cereals, etc. The view from the resturant where we ate our meals was wonderful. They have a nice Italian resturant on site, which again takes advantage of the wonderful view, and has some delicious meals to choose from.
Overall we really enjoyed our visit, as it was exactly what we hoped it would be. Our room was very comfortable, though not luxurious. Again if you are looking for a luxurious room in a high class B&B you would best look elsewhere. If you are looking for a very comfortable place, with above average rooms, a really nice staff, and superior views this is your place. It has a homey feel, not the stuffy formal feel that many B&Bs have. Michel Ann who runs the Storybook Inn is very helpful, and kind. If you want to relax with room to spread out, and a million dollar view...give it a try. View Reviewer Info

Not sure when you came down for breakfast but our breakfasts always have included sausage and eggs, biscuits and gravy, fresh fruit, hot and cold cereal, baked French Toast, assorted bagels, English Muffins, Babybel cheese, cream cheese, jams, orange juice, coffee, tea and cocoa and a scrumptious baked French Toast with Praline topping.
If you happened to have come down early before 8AM, things may have been cold and not completely set up yet.
Sometimes people want to take off early before breakfast is ready. When that happens, I try to accommodate them with something. Even if it is toast and cereal. That may have been the case in this situation.
