My wife and I spent our anniversary weekend in "Andy Griffith Town," Mt. Airy, NC at the Sobotta Manor B & B. The most pleasant part of it was that main street in "Mayberry" was just a two block stroll. We parked our car on Friday afternoon after arriving and didn't have to move it again until we left on Sunday. After being met at the door by the "host" and the "mascots," we were introduced to the "Manor" of the Sobotta. Beautifully decorated Room #3 with a beautiful view of the gardens. The host "pulled back the covers" for us as we prepared to introduce ourselves for a relaxing weekend. We walked up the street and ate at Barney's Cafe and returned for a nice cup of coffee before sleeping on the most comfortable bed you could imagine. We wanted to be able to stay at a place that we didn't have to take the car anywhere....and we didn't until we left on Sunday. The breakfast on Saturday and Sunday were each freshly prepared by J.R. Waffles on Saturday and a Breakfast Casserole type dish on Sunday. Freshly brewed coffee complimented the food nicely along with the juice. The location made our "Mayberry" weekend so enjoyable but the comfort and ambience of the Sobotta Manor made it all worthwhile. You couldn't ask for better!!! Thanks J.R. and Clayton and Cher. P.S. This was my second visit to Sobotta B&B. The first was with my daughter and I loved it so much I had to bring my husband, who has always been a skeptic about staying in "someone's house". Now he is a believer. Robin and J.R. make you feel like you are family coming to visit them in their beautifully decorated home. The accommodations are luxurious with comfy beds that you just melt into, and the gourmet breakfast is always unbelieveable, served with attention to every detail. The gardens and patio are serene and relaxing and coffee, refreshments and treats are always available. We stayed at the Bed and Breakfast for three nights. It is easy walking to downtown Mount Airy/Mayberry. I'm a type A and it's hard for me to relax if things aren't "right". Well, things are "right" at The Sobotta Manor Bed and Breakfast! I've stayed at many B&B’s; this would say this is one of our favorite stays! Breakfast was EXCEPTIONAL. All food was incredible and included fancy French toast, their home-made granola and sausage. Fresh baked goods, cookies and goodies are always available in the afternoon and into the evening; our favorite was the oatmeal cookies. There is a full library of movies - some very current/recently-released movies included. The garden is filled with tasteful and beautiful plantings and they share some freshly-cut flowers in your room. Robin and Junior attended to our every need, they loaned us pre-loaded navigation to area wineries, made amazing dinner suggestions and took care of the reservations. We could not review this Inn without a mention of the dogs, Clayton and Cher, they were well behaved and a joy to love on while we were away from our pups. This bed and breakfast is close to the Blue Ridge Parkway (15 minutes) and in the middle of the North Carolina and Yadkin Valley Wine Region. Worth every penny!

The Sobotta Manor was a great place to stay. We stayed there for three nights and enjoyed every minute of our stay. The food was great every morning and there were fresh baked goods available in the kitchen each day. They also provided complimentary beverages throughout our stay. Our room was beautiful and the bed was very comfortable. TV and A/C in each room. Robin gave us some great ideas for our day trips and also made some excellent dining recommendations. The Manor is a very short walk from the downtown area and is also close to the Blue Ridge Parkway and beautiful Pilot Mountain. Sobotta Manor is a very quiet, intimate bed and breakfast with a welcoming hostess, Robin, who accommodated a specific breakfast request. The meal far exceeded expectations as each course was elegantly served and tasted wonderful. The entire house was furnished and decorated beautifully, with a very comfortable bed complete with turndown service. A stroll through the gardens was relaxing and the grounds are gorgeous. The only concern that crossed our mind was the lock system on the bedroom door. The doors open with a skeleton key (fine from the outside), but also had to be opened to get out of the room, which could be awkward in an emergency situation. We couldn't find a place to plug in our laptop (a 3 prong plug), but were told after the fact that adapters were in the drawers, so you may want to know this if you need a 3 prong plug. Other than these very two minute issues, this is a beautiful bed and breakfast you will certainly enjoy.

The inn itself was charming and every detail attended to, the grounds well maintained and inviting for strolls, however the real treaure here is the host and hostess: Robin and 'Junior'. From the moment you walk in you feel welcomed and 'part of the family'-yet not imposed upon or obligated to engage. The whole house is gorgeous. All of the spacious rooms are impeccably decorated; the bedrooms each have their own special look and included large private baths. Our room was very comfortable. The bed and pillows were soft and plush yet gave great support. The air conditioning featured a remote control to adjust the temperature while still in bed. The beautiful dining room, with the table set with fine china and crystal, made a fantastic setting for a breakfast that was definitely a gourmet’s delight.

My husband and I had a wonderful experience at Sobotta. It was our first stay at a B&B, and we were so pleased. We had some of the best quiche and french toast I've ever had, and the service was great. The house and gardens are so peaceful, and there is a lot to do in the area. There are so many wineries to visit and the Blue Ridge Parkway is very close by. Make sure you leave one of your days free because Robin and Junior will have all sorts of suggestions for what to do. My wife and I were also in Mt Airy for the BMW "Vintage in the Vineyard" over Memorial Day weekend. We like to stay in B&Bs whenever we can; with a few exceptions we've had very good luck. We hit the jackpot with Sobotta Manor--from friendly hosts--human and canine--to beautifully furnished rooms--to outstanding breakfasts... Robin and JR even arranged off-street parking for three prized old BMWs--mine and two friends' so we could sleep soundly knowing "our babies" were safe. The 1931 house was built by a local furniture manufacturer, who kept his factory craftsmen busy by producing all the georgous interior walnut woodwork. Our room was great---nice comfortable bed, big screen TV, vintage furniture...Robin's breakfasts were enough to make me forget about lunch--and almost dinner. All in all, just what a B&B should be. Better make my reservations for next year! Almost forgot--don't forget to check out the gardens in the back yard--they go back several hundred feet--a nice quiet place to just sit down and relax...

I cant believe I am admitting this on B&B.COM but I dont like B&Bs. I like the anonymity of the chain hotel where I can go about my business with nary a conversation. OK, then why did I love Sobotta? It certainly isn't anonymous - We met a guest as soon as we pulled up front and Robin and JR met us soon thereafter. I have been asking that question for a few days now and I think the answer lies with those two - they have a knack for making you feel "at home". From the moment we arrived and they offered to put our perishibles in the fridge, to the departing wave, they treated us as welcomed guests, much like I feel when I visit a college roommate or an old Navy buddy. Yes, the house is gorgeous and comfortable and YES the food is haute down-home, but it was the welcome feeling we got that made me a B&B convert. I'm not giving up my Marriott Rewards card yet but if I'm ever near Mount Airy again you'll find me at "home".

We chose Sobotta Manor in Mt. Airy for a relaxing 27th anniversary get-away. Not only was there more to do in Mt. Airy than we expected, but Robin also added to our travel plans by suggesting places close by as well as on our trip home. Our hosts were very friendly and enjoyed sharing information on the area and the history of the Sobotta. We look forward to returning to Mt. Airy and staying with Junior and Robin at their newly renovated property next door and enjoying dinner at their restaurant. Although the food was wonderful, the grounds were lovely, and the house was beautiful, the hosts (including Clayton and Cher) are the reasons to stay at the Sobotta.

We have to agree with the other people who rated the Sobotta with 5 stars. The house really is tremendous. Beautiful furniture, clean, it looked like it had just been professionally decorated with antiques and other first rate furnishings. The dining room was very regal with beautiful dishes and servings. The hosts were very friendly and informative. The breakfast was delicious. The two dogs who live there are very mellow and don't go looking for attention, but leave the guests alone after their initial barking at the door when we arrived. The rooms were first rate. Good TV and DVD player, with WiFi. High end clock radio/cd player in the bedroom. Snacks are readily available, as is one of those brew your own coffee/tea one cup at a time machines, which you can use during the day. If I have one thing that I didn't care for, it's the "European Shower" in our room, which requires you to use a hand held shower head, but provides no place to hang the shower head so that you can stand under the water. At least I couldn't figure out how to do that. The rooms (at least our room) had individual air conditioning units in the wall. Not those noisy in the window units that hotels have, but really nice units with remote controls. This makes it real easy to control your rooms temperature to your liking, independant of the rest of the house. It was too cold to spend time in the backyard during our stay, but they were very nicely kept, and had a formal quality to them, although they weren't overly large. In summary, I would say that this is one of the nicest B&B's that I've ever stayed in. If it was located in the California Wine country or other high end markets, it could easily charge twice the current rates, and be well worth it. We highly recommend it to everyone.

This is a wonderful choice of lodging while you are in Mr. Airy. It goes along so well with the friendly streets, shops and people of the town. The house is full of polished wood that makes the home rich. Aromas that fill the rooms say "welcome". It is so tempting to just settle into the house with one of the many books available even though there are many things to do in town! There is a well stocked fridge full of most any beverage you may want as well as a delightful assortment of coffee. Robin keeps homemade sweet treats in the kitchen. While in town for work, my assistant and I stayed at Sobotta Manor and found it an incredibly comfortable place to work and sleep (and watch their vast collection of DVDs!) The beds were heaven, which is always the most important thing for a business traveler. Can't work without a good nights sleep! Also, I probably would've turned into a greasy biscuit if it weren't for Robin's delicious breakfasts -- there are no healthy and tasty options on a weekday in Mount Airy, so if fried food is not your idea of breakfast, you should try her omlettes, fritattas, pancakes and more. That aspect alone makes your stay there worth it!

We came down from Ohio to attend my sister's wedding which was performed at Sobotta Manor. The whole experience was just wonderful! We just came back from a night at the Sabotta Manor in Mt, Airy, NC and had a remarkable experience. From the minute we arrrived, we were treated with such gracious southern hospitality by Robin. She is a jewel. Being able to experience a part of the historical Manor with it's magnificent furnishings, autumn decorations, and wonderful food was truly an honor for us. We stayed for our honeymoon. Our room was beautiful! The house was delightful with beautiful furnishings! We never wanted to leave! The food was wonderful! Yummy! Everything downtown is walking distance, so we never had to leave our parking at the house. We toured the wineries with JR as our host and were treated like royalty at each of our stops; he knew all the owners and we were made to feel very special. It was great not to have to drive or try to find these hidden gems. We loved the Innkeepers (all of them) Junior and Robin and of course Clayton and Cher and found them to be very kind and helpful and the last two even cuddly! My husband and I spent a lovely autumn weekend at Sobatta Manor, and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Innkeepers Robin and Junior were gracious and attentive without being intrusive. Robin's delicious 3-course breakfasts are not to be missed! Their dogs, Clayton and Cher are just adorable and added a touch of home for us. Mt. Airy is a charming town and Robin gave us great walking directions and restaurant suggestions. We had arranged a wine tour in the area, and Junior drove us around and gave great information about the wineries and stories about the area. If you're heading to the Yadkin Valley, arrange a stay at Sobatta!

My husband, daughter and I recently stayed at Sabotta Manor and were very impressed with the welcoming atmosphere we experienced the minute we walked through the door. We enjoyed our stay very much and cannot wait to return. Robin's cooking was excellent (every dish) and I appreciated the fact that once we were down for the night things were very quiet and we were not disturbed at all. We had a great time. The Sobotta is both luxury and feeling right at home. The breakfast was superior. My husband was so impressed with the homemade sausage balls, and I loved the wonderful room. From the moment we arrived, JR and Robin were two of the sweetest, kindest, most helpful individuals I have had the pleasure to meet. The inn was so incredibly beautiful that it reminded us of a storybook fairy tale. JR and Robin were so helpful throughout our entire stay. We could not have asked for a better vacation. The Sobotta Manor Bed and Breakfast was a treat from beginning to end. The exterior was inviting, the shared areas comfy and beautifully decorated - very homey. Our hosts were welcoming and bent over backwards to make our stay rewarding. We welcomed their advice on wineries, shopping and dining. Our bedroom was large and very comfortable. Breakfasts were to die for. One morning we enjoyed a three course spread which concluded with wonderful french toast with a delicious blueberry reduction sauce. The next day's breakfast was highlighed by a spinach feta cheese quiche. (The hosts are nice enough to check food preferences and allergies in advance. ) I recommend this b & b highly.

Very clean and nice house. Nice rooms and good food. They strive to create a friendly relationship among guests as well and were good at offering advice about the very scenic Mt. Airy area. If you are attending the Andy Griffith festival, this is the place to stay, very convenient walking distance to downtown.

The B&B was one of the nicest we have visited and we travel alot. The room was beautiful and very neat and clean. They spared no expense on the bed it was a dream...The pups that live in the house were so sweet and were quite as they could be just great to get your doogie fix if you left your own pups behind. The breakfast was amazing lots of fresh fruit....yum! We would be happy to recommend it to anyone.

Sobotta Manor is a beautiful B&B! Robin and Junior were excellent hosts and I enjoyed the storytelling about the original home owners as well as the tidbits about Mt. Airy. Being a dog-lover, I especially enjoyed Clayton and Cher! In addition to Mt. Airy and the sights of Mayberry, the Blue Ridge Parkway is only miles away. Be sure to head up to Pilot Mountain (Mt. Pilot) and drive to the summit. The view over NC is beautiful and there are wonderful hiking trails as well!

My wife and I spent 3 nights at the Sobotta Manor in July 2008. This was by far one of the best Bed and Breakfast we have ever stayed at. Not only was the accomodations beautiful but the breakfast's were outstanding. Junior and Robin were great host. Wonderful and engaging hosts in a fantastic location close to restaurants, shops and downtown. Imagine beautiful accommodations located in the heart of town, tasty breakfasts every morning mixed with friendly conversation from fellow travelers, and the nicest hosts you will ever met. That is what you will find at Sobotta Manor. Located in a superb area close to everything including excellent wineries you will not feel crowded at this B&B. Each room is tastefully appointed and very private. You know you have come to a special place as soon as meet your host. My favorite part was the great conversation and advice from Junior and Robin who’s in depth knowledge and sincere interest in making the best experience for us was very much appreciated. Their insight into what to see and where to eat allowed us to experience some of the hidden treasures "Mayberry” has to offer. For this we are truly thankful. We have such wonderful memories from staying here and can't wait to go back and see this lovely family, both furry and funny again. We are truly privileged to have stayed here.

Staying at the Sobotta Manor for one night was too short. It was that good! Everything I wanted in a B&B they had, starting with a warm welcome by Robin. She really wanted my stay to be enjoyable. The downstairs room I stayed in was plenty big, great bed, tastefully decorated, and had a great shower. After a long drive it was wonderful to be offered a glass of wine and a easy going chat. The entire house is gorgeous, as well as the garden in the back. You'd never guess it was back there! Robin really put the B in breakfast as well. Delicious! She could be a chef at a restaurant. Come to think of it, she is! If you're anywhere near Mt. Airy, you gotta stay at the Sobotta. Nothing is better.

The room was very clean and nice and the bed extremely comfortable, and the house and grounds were lovely. Charming, intimate bed and breakfast in the heart of downtown Mayberry. Robin and Junior were pleasant and helpful. Rooms were nicely and attractively furnished (even the sheets were pressed) and the beds were the most comfortable beds we've slept in since leaving home, with down duvets, fluffy pillows and soft sheets. Bathroom was nicely appointed with magnifying mirror, and unusually generous supply of towels, shampoo, mouthwash and lotions. Robin was helpful and provided great walking directions and maps. The Inn was a haven to return to each evening. I enjoyed the free wireless internet service and coffee bar.

This lovely home and its owners are a standout in the world of B&Bs. We chanced on them while driving through NC on a trip up the East Coast and couldn't have been happier with our choice. The owners have lovingly and skillfully restored the house and grounds and are active in the local restoration and historic preservation community. Robin greeted us at the door and immediately made us feel welcome, pointing out the many guest amenities and offering suggestions for dining that evening (which we took and loved!) Our room was large and beautifully appointed, though it did have only a tub (no shower). And breakfast was nothing less than sublime--homemade cream-cheese-stuffed French toast with fresh berry compote! Also, though it wasn't available for our drop-in stay this time, Robin told us there was a pet-friendly room which we will definitely check out on our next stay.

Rarely do you find a B and B where the gardens outside rival the rooms inside, but that is definitely true at the Sobotta Manor. And for the icing on the cake, the breakfasts prepared and served by Robin are the best that we have ever experienced in a B and B, and we travel extensively staying in B and B's around the Country. We particularly appreciated how loving both Junior and Robin were to our dog, Corky. Robin went the extra mile to make our stay there with a pet enjoyable. We left feeling like we had indeed made two new friends. We were impressed both with our hosts and the truly exceptional house.

It was so relaxing. Just what we needed. They made sure we had everything we could have wanted. The house was quiet, beautiful, and comfortable. Even though the entire inn was booked, it was quiet enough to make us feel like we had the place to ourselves. They were always available to answer questions about activities in the area from hiking to shopping to wine tasting. They even helped us make reservations for dinner on that first night in. It was just lovely. I think we'll go back again next February.

Wow, what a delightful stay in a delightful little town. The Manor was within walking distance of the downtown area and many other areas. The rooms were large and very comfortable. This was a very nice B&B walking distance to downtown Mt. Airy. There is a lovely side porch to sit on and it is convenient to everything in the area, including a great old drive-in movie theater. The highlight was truly the breakfast. The innkeeper had no problem tweaking her recipe a bit for us (we're vegetarian) and it was truly an exceptional meal, one of the best we've ever had at a B&B. Not run of the mill at all! Stay here for sure.
