There is a marquee outside a motel along Highway 395 in Bishop, CA, on the way to Mammoth Lakes in the High Sierra of California which reads: 'Once a guest, always a friend'. We learned so many historical aspects of the house that was very interesting. They were very attentive to your needs, especially with diet. We had an absolutely wonderful stay at the Bloomsbury Inn - Our first view was breathtaking and became more so as we walked up to the front porch and through the double wide front doors to see the rest of the house. Each room was immaculately kept and lovingly restored. We were impressed not only with the care Katherine and Bruce took with every detail of comfort, but also with the massive efforts they took in preserving the historical aspects of the house. We had just toured several plantations in Georgetown. Our "tour" of the Bloomsbury with Bruce as our guide was even more detailed and truly gave us a feel for the families who had lived there. Katherine made a fabulous breakfast -The homemade biscuits were the best I've ever had and the eggs benedict was heavenly. She took care to ask our dietary needs and cooked to order. Bloomsbury far exceeded my expectations. The rooms were more beautiful and comfortable than the website made them out to be. Our room was large, with beautiful antique furniture and a private bathroom. The innkeepers, Bruce and Katherine thought of everything - water by the bed, cookies, a wine decanter...it was so charming and perfect. We were delighted by the social hour, where we were treated to wine and cheese on the beautiful front porch. Breakfast was absolutely wonderful - Katherine unknowingly made my favorites for breakfast (fresh biscuits and Eggs Benedict). It was so delicious I didn't want it to end. The only issue was an "old house" issue - i.e., very squeaky floor boards in the middle of the night when my sweet husband got up (several times) to use the bathroom. I booked an overnight stay at the Bloomsbury Inn because of a work event in Camden, SC. I was only expecting a (hopefully) good night's sleep. What the hosts, Bruce and Katherine Brown, provided however was an extremely pleasant and wonderful experience. The Inn is immaculately restored and clean. Their hospitality is warm and genuine. The accomodations were extremely comfortable. The evening social hour with wine and cheese was delightful. And the breakfast was simply outstanding (I have to find that chilled cantelope soup recipe). This was far more than just an overnight stay...my one-night at the Bloombury Inn restored my spirit. The personal attention and service delivery of this visit were beyond what we have ever experienced. At every turn you found something else which made the experience memorable, from the decor and antiques throughout the house to snacks, cream sherry, bath amenities, and more in the room. We were met at the door and the owner helped carry everything to the room. The hor-durves, wine and beverages in the afternoon were excellent. And then breakfast ..... it was better than most restaurants where we have eaten breakfast. Even the other guests added to a very positive experience ... they were special people. The moment we arrived at Bloomsbury we knew it was special. It is as though you have stepped back into time. As soon as we opened our car door Bruce was there to greet us and help with our bags. Katherine was on the porch to welcome us into this beautiful oasis. The minute we turned the key to our room we sensed a peaceful presence. As Bruce introduced us to the General's Chambers Katherine was busy preparing hors d'oeu-vres for afternoon tea and social hour. Mike and I are not accustomed to this but certainly enjoyed this Southern tradition at Bloomsbury. We slept like babes that night and inquired about what type of mattress they had! We really did not want to get out of that comfortable bed until we smelled the aroma of a blend of coffee made just for the B&B. When we headed down the stairs the smells only teased you more! What an amazing and gifted chef Mrs. Katherine is. We thoroughly enjoyed the history tour from Bruce. It really is part of the total experience. Invited to the wedding of our friends' oldest son...age 47....we decided to make our first venture to Camden, an adventure. We searched the web and decided on Bloomsbury Inn as our lodging. On site it looked delightful to us.....spoiled New Yorkers with a second home in Pinehurst, N.C. The actual experience exceeded our expectations. Gracious, ageless, charming...adjectives to describe both the wonderful antebellum home and the darling couple who run it. The breakfasts themselves were worth the visit....apple dumplings, biscuits in an iron skillet, praline bacon, eggs with hollandaise sauce, for example. The wedding we attended was a joy, but the trip to Camden, the skeet shooting outing, the antique purchasing topped with perfection at the Bloomsbury Inn made our foray a happy memory, worth a repeat visit, even without a wedding.

Almost forgot to tell you about the social held on the veranda in the late afternoon and the greatest breakfast the next morning. Katherine is a gourmet cook! You will enjoy the quaint town of Camden with little interesting shops and loads of history. If you enjoy wallking it is only a short distance from Bloomsbury to the shops. Our 2 night stay at Bloomsbury was perfect. Our arrival at this beautiful and historic inn was enchanting with the magnificant oaks and perfectly manicured grounds down to the welcoming pineapples on the front posts and a true southern greeting from Katherine. Proceeding into the Inn's interior we were treated with the magnificant restoration of a bygone era from the high ceilings, hardwood floors, exquisite furnishings and elegant winding staircase leading to the guest rooms. Our room boasted a large king size bed, fireplace, sitting areas, desk and a view that inspired Mary Borkin Chestnut to write about in her infamous diary. The room was immaculate and no detail forgotten from the quality bedding, amenities, robes, slippers, hair dryer, home-made cookies, candies, weather report and even a decanter of Sherry on the fireplace mantle! Mornings allowed us the treat of Katherine's fine gourmet breakfasts and Bruce's witty and infinite knowledge of the history of Bloomsbury and it's inhabitants. Parting really was such sweet sorrow and we will definitely look forward to returning. How wonderful that we were able to take a little of the Bloomsbury memory with us through our pictures and several jars of Katherine's home-made soup and jelly from the gift shop! I must say that our stay at Bloomsbury far exceeded my expectations. I found this inn when looking for accomodations near Pearl Fryar's home. Bruce and Katherine could not have done better. Everything was perfect. From the time Katherine greeted us at the front door to the time we left we felt like family that had just come home. The Inn was exquisit; everything was beautiful but without the feeling of being in a museum...it was home. Nothing was left for chance concerning our enjoyment and comfort. We have never been to South Carolina, nor Camden. The Bloomsbury Inn was referred to us by a local, and we are SO thankful that we chose to spend our weekend at Bloomsbury. The house is absolutely amazing, beautifully restored, clean and full of history, both past and present. The grounds are stunning as well. The Browns are the BEST inn keepers, they went out of their way to show us a good time in their historic home. The food is divine, Katherine's breakfast menu is hard to top with her delicous, gourmet touches. Can you tell we had a good time??? We will not hesitate to stay at the Bloomsbury Inn again. Bruce and Katherine Brown have accomplished lots of things in their lives...how wonderful for us that they have chosen to restore this old plantation home in their "retirement".This place is the bomb.The owners couldn't be friendlier,conversation and knowledge of the history of the house AND the surrounding community was wonderful and the hospitality effortless.Food was delightful,the house was clean,smelled wonderful and those old floors creaked just like grandmama's house. My husband and I love little getaways and this has been by far the loveliest place we have stayed. We got the royal treatment when we went. Bruce and Katherine were so much fun to be around and talk to. They did a great job making our stay at Bloomsbury enjoyable by catering to what we liked to do. My husband and I enjoyed the porch and Bruce made an extra effort to have the candles lit and fans on. They recommended great places to eat and to visit, however we simply just wanted to stick around the house. Then to top it off Katherine's breakfast menus were outstanding. You must try the cantaloupe soup! The house is just incredible! We got a tour of the home by Bruce, and the rooms were prettier than the pictures online. It really exceeded our expectations. We can't wait to go back and plan to around the holidays! We would highly recommend this place to anyone!

I travel all over the US for business, and the Bloomsbusry Inn was one of the nicest stays I've ever had. The innkeepers were consistently friendly and gracious, nicely in touch with my needs as a business traveler. The house itself is gorgeous - just what I love about B&Bs, but the breakfast was superlative. Freshly baked homemade bread with butter from local Amish farmers, a canteloupe soup that I hope to make this weekend (their recipe is on the website), my favorite Earl Grey tea, and then eggs benedict. Everything fresh and home made, and served at 6:30 AM so I could get to my workshop on time! Other innkeepers have left me out a box of cereal or a muffin because they didn't want to make breakfast so early - not at the Bloomsbury Inn. And Camden was so lovely, that now I want to return with my husband for the perfect get-away weekend. Try it. You won't be disappointed.

Our family booked 2 rooms for 8/15 and 8/16 while dropping off our son at Camden Military. What a surprise! The Bloomsbury Inn became a destination rather than just a place to sleep. I am sorry that "Outstanding" reflects your highest rating. Our stay at the Bloomsbury Inn was beyond exceptional. The decor was magnificent and the ambiance of this Bed & Breakfast was breathtaking. The grounds were meticulously maintained and absolutely gorgeous. But what made our 3 night stay so memorable was clearly the hospitality of our hosts, Bruce and Katherine Brown. They could not do enough for us and several times went above and beyond the 'required' hostess obligations. We were treated daily to a menu of gourmet cooking - fresh figs from their garden for breakfast! Their conversation was enlightening and entertaining. Other guests we met were equally delightful. Bruce & Katherine's gracious, warm-hearted hospitality is rare in today's world and we cannot say enough about them both as Innkeepers, but more importantly, as people. Not only will we not hesitate to return to Camden and to Bloomsbury, but it is first on our list of recommendations to family and friends who will visit as well. We found the Bloomsbury Inn to be a real treat. It exceeded my expectations of a Bed and Breakfast even though we haven't stayed at that many. Future stays at other B&Bs will be hard to live up to the Bloomsbury. The place was in prestine shape. The owners were especially welcoming and charming. The rooms were decorated with many antiques from all over the world. The owners have quite a nice, I mean really nice collection, so we felt like royalty staying in the General's chambers. We had a tour after a homemade breakfast of biscuits with chocolate gravy, fruit and a creamy topping, baked pepper bacon, and custom blended coffee to the owners' taste. The tour was very informative and relaxed. We would go back again without a second thought.

From the moment we arrived everything was perfect. My husband had arranged to have flowers and champagne waiting for us in our room. With four children at home, it was a great and relaxing weekend to share with each other. The room was beautiful, comfortable, and private. Breakfast each morning was superb. Our room was very nicely appointed and furnished with all the thoughtful accoutrements one would want or need. The gracious hospitality and attention to detail of the innkeepers, Katherine and Bruce, was exceptional. They welcomed us into their home and every detail of our stay was planned out by them seamlessly. We celebrated our anniversary at The Bloomsbury and were delighted by some of the romantic options afforded to us, such as horsedrawn carriage, champagne in our rooms, anniversary cake, etc. We recommend this establishment without question, and the town of Camden is the epitome of southern living at its finest. Traveling alone, I expected to be met with hospitable hosts, however the Browns were exceptional with their Southern charm and warmth. Their late afternoon "socials" were a special treat, I found myself looking forward to... the other guests were chatty, interesting and provided educational opportunities about the local areas, as well. LOVED my room - Sally Chesnut! Excellent choice for me, complete with lovely lavendar bathroom, darling antiques, lightning-speed wireless service, 13 foot ceilings, chocolate cookies in the room, and many personal touches (grandmother's quilt and family photos) added to the warmth and comfort. Fresh local strawberries were presented upon my late night arrival together with a yummy pot of tea on a silver tray. Elegant and affordable. Generous, delicious breakfasts with unusual selections: Bloomsbury Cold Fruit Soup, biscuits and chocolate gravy, hot apple soup, Southern pecan cheesecake to name a few. I did not sample all of these, however, I had my share and heard about the others from fellow guests. A wonderful inn, beautiful surroundings, charming hosts, a great walk to Camden town centre and many other treasures - I will have to return to enjoy. Thank you!

Although we were only there for one night, I found the house and the Browns to be charming. The house has much South Carolina Civil War history connected with it, and the Browns have made it a wonderful place to stay. The General's Bedroom was spacious and tastefully furnished, and Katherine makes wonderful breakfastes. We have stayed at other comparably-priced B&Bs that were not nearly as nice. I would highly recommend Bloomsbury to anyone wishing to stay in Camden

Beautiful large rooms, Stayed in B & B's exclusively the lasts 15 years top 1 or 2 of all time. For me it is the small personal details that make a B & B great Bloomsbury is loaded with them. Make sure you are back by 5:30 for some outstanding wine & cheese.
