All the positive comments already said about AGH are true. Hospitality, friendliness, cleanliness, willing to help in any way, and breakfast (!!) are far above other locations. Would have stayed longer if rooms were available. Easy to understand why it is so popular and why there are many return customers. Thoroughly enjoyed. Jonathan's breakfasts can't be beat!

I found the American Guest House online when I was looking for a place to stay in DC for under $200 per night. It was conveniently situated halfway between Dupont Circle and the convention hotel. Traveling alone, I reserved the smallest room in the place. And it was small--it didn't even have a closet--but it worked for me. It was extremely clean and the tiny bathroom just shined. Claudio greeted me the first day and showed me around. Jonathan provided a great breakfast the next two days of my stay. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming. I really liked staying there and will probably stay again.

First time in Washington (and US) for my wife and I and what a treasure we stumbled on. Fantastic impression from the moment you walk in front door. Owners and staff very polite, friendly and helpful, the room had everything one needed and was beautifully decorated and very comfortable bed. Breakfast was fantastic and it was nice to be able to share the time with other guests. Easy walk to all museums all can catch bus outside door or short walk to metro. Ideally located and local restaurants were lovely. Have already recommended to family and friends travelling to Us in 2010.

Lovely people, very carying and absolutely discrete. I was given so many tips by the lovely French guy who works there in the mornings. Everybody made me feel at home.

My wife and I stayed in room 403 for two nights and we could not have been more pleased. The room was clean and had all the amenities. Jonathan was a joy to conversate with and he makes a mean cheese omelet! The B&B is within a few minutes walk of Metro bus and rail stations. We would highly recommend The American Guest House to anyone staying in D.C.

unable to find a hotel room at short notice, this little treasure popped up on a Google search. It is cheaper than nearby fancy hotels, yet with beautiful restored rooms, hot breakfast to order, free wifi, comfortable sitting rooms, and friendly hosts. Is now my favored DC lodging!

The American Guest House is a wonderful place to stay. My room was comfortable and quaint and a very restful place to relax at the end of the day. The bedroom and bathroom were very clean. Breakfast was wonderful and included a variety of breads, pastries, cereals, juices and yogurt. Eggs were made or order and a fruit cup was provided. I will definitely stay here again.

My friend and I came to DC to tour and see the city. We're in are early twenties so didn't want to spend to much but needed a safe area. The American Guest House was perfect. It's in a great location and everyone is so friendly! The breakfast was great and the rooms and decor were beautiful and unique. We really did feel at home and it worked out perfectly for us :)

Even though we stayed at the American Guest House for only one night, everything was great; the location is perfect, loved the house, the beds were comfortable, the bathrooms sparkling white, and our rooms although not the largest offered enough space. As you enter the house, the stunning woodwork and staircase greets you and to the right there is a living room that invites you to relax and read a book. It was very well decorated, and the doors were beautiful -- the old American prints and paintings bring you back in time. Breakfast was filling with a variety served in one big dining room table by Jonathan whom was very helpful and polite. It was nice to be able to talk with the other guests in a comfortable atmosphere. The location was great; one mile from the White house, plenty of dining options on Connecticut Ave. and Georgetown is not far at all. We will definitely make American Guest House our preferred accommodation for when we visit D.C. again.

On my recent visit to DC, I stayed at the American Guest House and truly enjoyed it. It was so clean and quiet. The staff were friendly, polite, and helpful. I felt well-cared for. It was located close to my conference hotel, the Wardman Park Marriott, about a 15minute by foot. I walked it a couple of times but decided it was too far after a hard day of workshops. Never mind though-- it was around USD 5 for taxi fare--and I didn't have to wait more than 2-3 minutes for a cab to come by.

We had a lovely and affordable stay at the AGH. The staff was caring, helpful, warm, and personable. The B&B provided us with everything we needed for our 2 night stay. AGH is EXTREMELY clean, our room had a comfortable bed, and is in walking distance from the Dupont Metro. We plan on staying at AGH when we visit again. Incidentally, I have already recommended AGH to some on my friends. Overall: A delightful experience

My room was comfortable, spacious and quiet. The service was excellent and very inconspicuous. Breakfast each morning was a delightful pleasure; the food was well-prepared, fresh, and afforded a very nice variety. The hosts are gracious and friendly. I will stay here when I next visit Washington, D.C.

My daughter, her friend and I stayed at the American Guest House for 3 days over the July 4th weekend. it was truly a wonderful B&B with incredibly friendly staff, clean rooms, comfortable beds, and delicious breakfast. Metro station was a good hike away, but the path between the Metro and B&B went thru the shopping district & restaurant area so you hardly noticed the time it took.

This wonderfully quiet B&B is super convenient to the DuPont Metro (and right on bus line #42 if you don't want to walk at all). Our large room on the 4th floor gave us lots of exercise since there is no elevator. Breakfast was abundant, with cooked to order offerings, fruit cup, pastries, bagels, yogurt, etc. Jonathan was extremely helpful and multi-tasked with ease. We will stay here again!

I reported a 'short' in the alarm clock such that it make electric signals throughout the first night until I unplug it. Reported it 3 days in a row and no one ever checked it, although they said they would. Also, my cell phone would not work in 203, but would work down stairs. Same for laptop WiFi. But I will be back. I like the accommodations and price.

My husband and I stayed here for four nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The room was lovely, very clean and bright; the breakfast was enormous and set us up for the day. The location of this place is ideal for sightseeing as the Metro is a short walk and the bus from the front door takes you right to the White House!

I stayed here four nights and it was lovely - never saw a soul, even at breakfast, although it was a full house. The room was small but very comfortable, there is a small park up the street, and I loved the place. The metro was easy to walk to and breakfast was fine.
