Our family of 4 stayed in the Bear Room for 4 nights. This B&B exceeded our expectations in every way, and we are really picky! The room is bigger than it appears in the pictures, extremely clean and beautifully decorated in the Adirondack style. We loved everything about it: Margie's delicious breakfasts, the quiet dock overlooking the beautiful lake, Lainey the loveable (and mellow) dog, the quiet, the cookie of the day, the list goes on ... Margie is a great host, who went out of her way to accommodate our dietary restrictions and help us find wonderful activities. The B&B is totally secluded, but a short drive to activities in and around Saranac Lake and Lake Placid. We didn't want to leave! No matter who you are, or where you come from, stay at Kiwassa Lake B&B!

This was one of our one night stays at several inns in the Adirondacks in July 2009. The Kiwassa Lake B&B was one of the best values close to Lake Placid. The inn had been recently updated and all rooms in the main inn showed well of the updates. Our room was very well appointed with a new bathroom, access to the upstairs kitchen and a great view of the lake. Our hosts were very friendly and their black labrador even took part in greeting us upon or arrival. In the morning we were treated to a great breakfast of homemade blueberry pancakes, sausage, juice and coffee all provided with wonderful conversation with our hostess Margie. A very quiet and secluded location on a great semi-private lake a few minutes from downtown Saranac Lake, NY.

This was a beautiful lodge right on the lake, and in a wooded setting. Everything was tip-top. The room and bath were immaculate and so tastefully furnished--solid comfort in every way. Our hosts were delightful and treated us like friends. Breakfast was superb and as an added treat, we enjoyed the telescope and viewing the ducks and ducklings on the lake. Our stay at this B&B will always be remembered with joy!

This B&B is tucked away on a quiet lake and is a real treasure. The waterfowl were a treat to watch while we waited for our outstanding breakfast to be served. The rooms were clean and spacious and the hospitality warm and gracious. A great place to get away.

We stayed in the Moose Room on the the Canadian May long weekend May 15-18. There were other guests in the B&B only on the first night, so it was quite a quiet spot for us, which we enjoyed. The room is spacious with a cathedral ceiling and a great view on the lake and it is appointed well with some comfortable chairs for sitting, a small table and chairs, luggage racks. Wireless internet is accessible in the room. The location was super, it is maybe 5 minutes into Saranac Lake but there you are in a nice quiet spot on the lake. I was looking for something different from the usual hotel/motel hustle and bustle. We were doing some day hiking and we found it fine for getting to various spots in the area. The B&B has a small but fully equipped kitchen. We were able to put drinks in the fridge, have some tea, make our lunches to take hiking, and we actually made our dinner two of the nights. If it had been a bit nicer, warmer weather we could have eaten outside by the lake. We really thought having the kitchen facilities there was great. Unfortunately we weren't there long enough and the weather was a bit cool to take full advantage of getting out and enjoying the lake location and having a paddle on the lake. I would have liked to do that. I found prices in the Lake Placid area very high, especially with the dollar conversion on top of it. We were lucky to have been able to take advantage of a special rate before the high season. I think I would have to say at full price I would have had to pass it by because we weren't looking to have a very expensive trip, but if you are comparing other options at equivalent price you are certainly getting something unique.

My husband & I have been returning to Kiwassa Lake annually for several years. Im admittedly picky & sometimes hard to please - - - but Kiwassa consistently exceeds my expectations & offers an ideal escape in many ways. The home sits on the shoreline of a small, beautiful, peaceful lake with easy access to the larger & absolutely gorgeous Saranac Lake chain. (A day trip to Lower or Upper Saranac in canoe, kayak or small motor boat - all of which are available for rental on property - through several channels & a small manned lock - is magnificently beautiful & not to be missed!) The rooms are quite comfortable & absolutely spotless. (Pike & Eagle rooms offer spectacular views, while Bear & Moose are slightly more spacious.) Margie's breakfasts (served indoors or out, overlooking the lake) are delicious - providing the perfect start to each day! And best of all, the Cochrans have always bent over backwards to make us feel at home while we are with them. Indeed, we have come to feel like part of their family! For the past few years, we have contemplated renting a house to facilitate a longer stay in the Adirondacks - - - but we simply cant find anything as beautiful or comfortable as Kiwassa Lake B&B. We may one day find the perfect rental home, but we will always return to visit our friends at Kiwassa!

This was an amazing setting for a B&B. We don't typically enjoy B&B's, something odd about staying in someones home you know? But here, the rooms are quiet, comfortable and beautiful and the view is breathtaking! Lake, woods, fresh air...if you're in to this sort of thing then this is the place for you.

Clean, quiet and spacious rooms elegantly decorated; fabulous hostess making the most delicious breakfast. Shared guest kitchen is available for those who would rather eat in. Kayaks, canoes, fishing supplies are available right there, so you don't ever need to go to town. Worst part - we couldn't stay there forever.

On the positive side, the breakfasts were good. However, we really did not feel welcome here. Guests are limited to certain areas of the house and the dock is taken up by a large sea plane that is parked in front of the b&b. There really is very little area for relaxing and enjoying the lake. Also, for the amount of money we were paying for a room, to charge additional money for non-powered boats seems unfair. Be aware that there is a large garage housing construction vehicles very close to this place. We felt like we needed to get away for the day each day rather than enjoying the surroundings.

Innkeeper Response
We are glad to hear that you enjoyed your breakfasts here at Kiwassa Lake Bed & Breakfast. We are sorry that you felt unwelcome because you could not have access to all areas of our home. We built our four bed & breakfast rooms specifically to rent and with that in mind made sure they were over sized and included mini living areas complete with comfy chairs to view television or read a good book. Because we are a smaller bed & breakfast our yard is ample for eight guests to mingle on our decks, porches, docks and lawn areas with picnic tables and benches. Our property encompasses over twenty acres and 1,000 feet of shore front with ample dockage for our small, two-seat float plane. Our equipment garage is not visible being that it is ¼ of a mile from the bed & breakfast building and machinery is never used while guests are present with the exception of snow removal. Complimentary non-motorized boats are offered to all guests who want to take a quick jaunt around the lake but day long usage does require rental. We were quite taken aback by your feeling the need to leave daily when so many of our guests spend their entire day here even bringing in their meals to enjoy on their balcony or out at the picnic tables.
