My wife and I were guests at the Carriage House at 21 East Battery 3 weeks ago. We have only stayed at a B & B one other time in Gatlinburg, TN and had a very unpleasant experience. The 21 East Battery property is breath taking. Very private and within walking distance of the Market and the best restaurants in town too. Julie the Innkeeper is gracious and kind and she would sneak in daily to tidy up but also to leave a stash of home baked goodies. My wife didn't want to leave and I had to bribe her with another trip to the open air Market before we left town. "If I ever disappear this is where you will find me" were her words as we begin the trip back to Atlanta.

My husband and I stayed in the Quarters on our wedding night. Julie was there to greet me when I arrived prior to the wedding. She was very helpful in giving a little tour and overview. The accommodations were comfortable and lovely. Especially the beautiful exposed brick and hardwood floors. We really enjoyed the homemade coffeecake and quiche for breakfast. Such a nice touch! We plan to return!

What a fun place and a great location! Two girlfriends and I stayed overnight in the Quarters and the hospitality was much appreciated. Great accommodations included two spacious bedrooms, two sparkling clean bathrooms (one with a double sink), and a downstairs sitting area. Kitchenette was well-stocked with breakfast foods, including juices, fresh fruit, cereal, and yogurt, as well as fresh-baked muffins and a yummy egg casserole prepared by Julie, our helpful innkeeper. Julie also provided tips for navigating around town and she kindly printed out my friend’s boarding pass for an afternoon flight. Included in the price is a fun, free tour of the historic Edmondston-Alston House next door. The sofa-sleeper was not very comfortable for an adult, but we enjoyed everything else about the Quarters!

My husband and I recently stayed at 21 East Battery and LOVED it! We have stayed at several Charleston B&B's, but the location and the view made this stay extra special. We have toured the house on several occasions, so it was a treat to be able to "live" in the Dependency for a few days. The bed was so comfortable and the spinach and mushroom quiche was impecable!!!

We were looking for the ultimate old Charleston experience, and we found it here. For a few days, we could imagine living on the Battery in Charleston. The carriage house is a little oasis behind a historic Charleston landmark house. The views from all of the windows, especially at dusk, were breathtaking. The carriage house has every amenity and lots of room. It is great for a "special" getaway or for a family as it has two sitting areas, a dining area with kitchenette, a bedroom and a pullout couch. We went for a special occasion, and Julie had decorated the entire carriage house with balloons and streamers. There were flowers and a cake waiting--well beyond what my husband had requested. The breakfasts were excellent, and we had fun anticipating what would be there next. One pet peeve of ours in bed and breakfasts is the unavilability of extra towels. You have no worries here as they are right there for your use. If you are looking for the ultimate Charleston experience, look no further than here. You can park the car and roam the city. You will not want to leave! We will be back.

What a wonderful place to experience Charleston. Having never been to the area before we had no idea where to stay. We could not have been more pleased. We wanted privacy and atmosphere and this place provided both. You have the entire carriage house to yourself. It was spacious and full of interesting little details. The location was awesome! We watched the dolphins in the harbor from our balcony. Having planned a weekend escape we were so pleased and rejuved after our stay! Plan on going again!

We stayed Friday night - Monday morning over President's Day weekend, with a group of seven. Five were in the Dependency and 2 in the Carriage House, where we gathered. The rooms are spacious and nicely furnished with antiques. We greatly enjoyed the fresh banana bread, shortbread and quiches delivered every day. The microwaves and small refrigerators were handy for breakfasts and munchies. The location is great - 5 minute walk to downtown and all those great restaurants, and just across the street from the seawall walk. The staff was great. We took advantage of the 'free to guests' tour of the main house and enjoyed that as well.

My daughter, her friend and I visited Charleston last week. It was the week of my birthday so it was very special to me. We loved 21 E. Battery and it was more than we expected. The B&B has been beautifully restored and the furnishings are lovely. There was even a Steinway piano in the living room. It was close to the Market Place and great restaurants. The upstairs balcony and charming courtyard gave us a chance to enjoy the lovely yard. Christine, the innkeeper, was very helpful and took good care of us. The breakfast was enjoyable. All in all, I would be happy to spend my next birthday at 21 E. Battery.

My husband and I traveled from Charlotte to Charleston to celebrate our anniversary - we were looking for a cozy bed/breakfast to rekindle romance - we found it at 21 East Battery! The Quarters were spacious and adorable..... the ONLY two things I would change would be the size of the television in the living room (I think it might have been a 9 or 12 inch - but VERY small) and the size of the bed in the master bedroom - (I think it was either a full or a queen).... otherwise, aside from the pesky mosquitoes (all over the Charleston area this time of year), our stay was VERY enjoyable. I also agree with the last reviewer, our hostess, Christine provided everything we needed and knew how to disappear when we didn't need her! Definitely encourage you to check it out for yourself!

What an enjoyable experience we had at 21 East Battery. We were able to enjoy our first cup of coffee on the Battery & our second in the privacy of the courtyard. Truly an ideal Charleston location. The accommodations were more than we expected (the pictures don't do it justice) a wonderful mix of antiques & simple elegant furnishings all in a beautifully restored Carriage House. The house had everything you could possibly need. The kitchenette even had Champagne glasses, which tickled us because we are kind of particular about the wine we drink and the glass we drink it from. The breakfast provided was over the top and fed us for 2 meals each day. We also appreciated our hostess Christine, who had a gift for being there when we needed her and being invisible when we didn't. Thank you so much for helping us have a wonderful stay. My husband and I enjoyed a lovely weekend with some friends in Charleston recently and had the pleasure of staying at the 21 East Battery Bed & Breakfast. What a delight and "oh so charming." Fabulous accommodations and beautiful surroundings allowed us to escape the race of our everyday lives. We enjoyed drinks on the porch overlooking the sailboats passing by, walked to dinner and had a relaxing morning while enjoying a stocked pantry of fresh fruit, quiche, coffee and yogurt. We hated to leave and look forward to returning. Would highly recommend 21 East Battery for a secret weekend retreat or a chance to visit with friends in the charm of quintessential Charleston.!! Oh, we also met the lovely couple who own the property and they are truly gracious.

I recently rented the carriage house at 21 East battery as a surprise for my husband's birthday. What a wonderful stay we had. The location couldn't have been better. Located right on Charleston's Battery, we were in the heart of the historic district and just a short walk to dozens of fabulous restaurants. Mindy the innkeeper was very nice and made our stay very enjoyable. I highly recommend this quaint bed and breakfast. Trish Kennedy

My new wife and I stayed at 21 E Battery after two nights at the Inn at Middleton Place. 21 E Battery was ideally located in Charleston. We parked our car upon arrival and never started it until we departed. We stayed in the Quarters, a delightful room. We loved the private sitting room which offered a romantic place to share a glass of wine. The bed was comfortable and the a/c kept the room cool, despite the 95+ temperatures outside during our stay. We will return again soon. Perhaps we will stay in the Carriage House next time.

I've stayed in most of Charleston's grand historic inns, but 21 East Battery B&B remains one of my favorites--and I have stayed there several different times. My husband has also stayed at 21 E. Battery and plans to stay there again. The location is ideally located in Charleston's historic district, the decor and amenities are impressive, and off-street parking is available (a real plus in downtown C'ston). Breakfast (along with a round of Brie) is left in the refrigerator for guests--usually a delicious quiche, over-sized muffins, fruit, yogurt, etc.
