Wow, we can't say enough great things about Grandma's Cottage! The service is absolutely exceptional! We felt like we were visiting family. Dianna and Bob are incredible hosts and we can not wait to go back and see them. The breakfast they offer is better than any we have ever experienced (except for mom's of course). We stayed in Nana's room, which seemed a little small at first, but it ended up being perfect for all our needs. Shower is a little small, but we have no complaints at all about our stay! We are planning our next trip to Virginia real soon! Thanks so much and God Bless!

We enjoyed at visit to Grandma's Cottage. We really felt welcomed into Bob and Dianna's home. It was very quiet and relaxing. They made sure we had what we needed. Breakfast was great! They allow you to chose from a menu - home baked bread, fresh eggs, local honey, baked apples, were some of the things we enjoyed. We would enjoy going back again.

We found all that we were looking for in a get-away and more. The accomodations were wonderful, with every details attended to with care and thought (including homemade cookies in our room each night and delicious eggs each morning that were freshly hatched). But most of all, the Chandlers treat their guests not like customers, but rather, like valued family members. You're in for a real treat if you choose to stay here.

My fiance and I decided to spend our christmas weekend hiking in Shenandoah. To make it a little special, we decided to stay in a bed and breakfast place and ended up in this neat and quiet place close to the national park. The owners made us feel at home at the small but a perfect cottage for a couple. Even though their granddaughter was in the hospital, they made sure we had everything we needed to cook our Christmas dinner before they left for the hospital. Ms. Dianna even offered us dinner! Last but in no way the least, the breakfast was filling and very tasty. In summary, the atmosphere, the comfort and the care that is bestowed by the hosts makes the name of the place very apt.

My wife and I stayed at Grandma's Cottage in November, 2008. We were warmly welcomed by our hosts, the Chandler's, and even the family cat 'Itsy' was super friendly! We stayed the night in Nana's Room, a cozy place with a comfortable bed, electric fireplace, and private bathroom with shower. The room was decorated with pictures of Americana, and it even came with a TV, microwave, and a sound machine to help you drift off to dreamland! I was able to take a pleasant walk the night of our arrival and enjoy the crisp Autumn air and the shining stars. The breakfast the next morning was fabulous, with several options to choose from and all guaranteed to make even the pickiest diner happy! This was one of the most pleasant experiences we had the entire trip! You won't go wrong staying here! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

My husband and I were married on October 25, 2008 and decided to go to the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia for our honeymoon. We stayed in a different area for the first few nights and decided to extend our stay in Virginia. We found Grandma's Cottage in a bed and breakfast booklet I received from the Virginia tourism website. It sounded wonderful and since we were not too far away, we decided to just stop by. What a great decision! Even though we didn't have a reservation and hadn't called ahead, we were warmly welcomed and made to feel so comfortable, as if we were old friends. Luckily, the cottage on their property was available and we ended up staying for two nights. Dianna and Bob are so wonderful and are great at what they are doing. The cottage was warm and cozy and perfect for what we wanted for our honeymoon. They have thought of every little detail, which makes for such a pleasant stay. Dianna's cooking/baking is amazing and we enjoyed a wonderful breakfast each morning and missed it thoroughly when we returned home! They were so helpful and full of information about the area and where to go, eat, etc. Dianna even has a binder in the cottage that has everything you could think of in the area with directions, etc. We had such a fun time in Virginia, which was made even more perfect by our stay at Grandma's Cottage. Dianna and Bob are about the nicest people you could meet and it was such fun to chat with them and get to know them a bit. We fell in love with that area and can't wait to go back, and include a stay at Grandma's Cottage. If you are hesitating about making a reservation at Grandma's Cottage -- don't! You won't regret it!

We enjoyed our stay at Grandma's! The breakfast choices were amazing. Eggs were fresh from the chickens in the backyard. Only one complaint - there was not privacy in the bathroom. There was no door only a curtain. The bathroom walls did not go all the way up to the ceiling so there was quite a gap at the top. Other than that we had a great stay.

Innkeeper Response
We at Grandma’s Cottage Bed and Breakfast welcome and value all comments from our guest. At this time we feel we need to clarify the comments that this guest has made. The guest stayed in Nana’s Room located in the main house. Nana’s room has a bathroom located within the room providing our guest with comfort and privacy at all times. The bathroom is not a shared bath and is not located outside of the room. The walls of the bathroom are eight feet tall with an air vent opening that runs across the top of the bathroom wall between the ceiling and the wall. The bathroom is small so this was done to make the bathroom appear bigger and for added comfort on air circulation. A seven foot, non-transparent, white cloth privacy curtain is provided in place of a bathroom door. This was done because a wooden door would not provide a proper swing and a pocket door would not work due to electrical outlets. It is our policy upon check-in and showing our guest their rooms and then again asking them each morning “Do you find everything comfortable in your room.” If our guest voices a concern we make sure it is taken care of immediately to insure our guest the utmost comfort. In the eight years of B&B hospitality business we have never had a guest to voice their concerns on the privacy of our bathrooms. We have and continue to honor our “guarantee to be one of the best B&B’s in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.

My wife and I had the pleasure of staying at Grandma's Cottage B&B the week of March 10, 2008. We travel quite a bit and always prefer staying at B&Bs. In fact, we can't quite understand why people would choose to stay in a hotel over a B&B but that's another story. We have to say that Grandma's Cottage B&B in Port Republic, Virginia, has now been put at the top of our list as our most favorite B&B in which to stay. The building dates back to the 1890's and has been restored in perfect condition. The accommodations are minimal but that is a part of its charm. They have one small bedroom upstairs in the main house and an attached cottage that has a small kitchen and sitting area downstairs and the bedroom and bath upstairs. The owners, Bob and Dianna Chandler, are the most perfect hosts and as Dianna put it; "You came as our guests and left as our friends." How absolutely true that statement is. We really miss the true Virginia country breakfasts that she served, especially the biscuits and country gravy with the fresh eggs (they have their own chickens). But most of all we miss the conversations about their family and the area. Grandma's B&B is a real down to earth experience in a totally rural country setting. If you are looking for shopping right outside your door or the hustle and bustle of city life...forget it. If you’re looking for the peace and quiet of country living, except for the roosters in the morning (lol), then this is your place. You will think have you died and gone to heaven.

Last Saturday afternoon my wife, son,and I traveled south for a weekend I will not soon forget. We arrived in the quaint town of Port Republic to be cheerfully greeted by Bob and Dianna. We were shown around their place and Bob intoduced our son to a sort of Train heaven. We were given several local recommendations for dining out. We chose a local diner for a quick bite and returned to the cottage for a good nights sleep. Dianna accomodated our schedule for sunday morning without hesitation. It was a hearty breakfast that started our day right. Chase loved everything about the cottage and has already asked "mommy can we go back?" We will have to return this winter for another relaxing weekend. Thanks again, I needed it. John H. Seyle IV
