Another Second Penny Inn

"If you have two pennies, with the first buy bread, with the second buy hyacinths for your soul."

Another Second Penny Inn, our 1710 colonial home, offers three large guestrooms, private jetted baths, fireplaces, gardens and quiet country setting near the heart of Mystic.

Within three miles of downtown Mystic, historic Stonington Borough, the Aquarium, and the Seaport our home sits on 4 1/2 acres of gardens, fields and forest. Excellent opportunities abound for quiet, romantic walks or secluded hideaways for reading. Relax in the ambience of a home that has for three centuries provided shelter and respite.

Our guestrooms are beautifully appointed including such amenities as fluffy bathrobes, hair dryers, custom toiletries, individual refrigerators, and irons and ironing boards. Breakfast is an event not to be missed! Our menu uses seasonal ingredients and highlights New England recipes. Sandra bakes "from scratch" coffee cakes, muffins, scones and bread. Jim creates a fruit course of vanilla poached pears, fresh berry compote or cider-sauteed apples with yoghurt among other possibilities. Hot and cold cereals are always offered as well as entrees such as scrambled crab, apple stuffed pancakes, the famous “Egg Thingie”. Homemade sorbets finish off your meal!

Our AAA recommended, 3 diamond property, has provided shelter and respite for three centuries. Welcome!

Innkeeper Response
These guests paid $149/night plus tax for a two night, weekend stay in a room which is 16' by 16' with an attached bath that is 14' x 12'. Queen sized four poster bed, fireplace, jetted clawfoot tub, fridge stocked with soft drinks and bottled water, cable TV with VCR/DVD, hair dryer, toiletries, iron, ironing board, lots of towels and two types of bathrobes. And that's without describing our award-winning, 5-course breakfast! We're very sorry they thought they paid too much! Many of our guests have enjoyed romantic weekends at our B&B (and return every year on their anniversaries!) and we've never had a noise complaint in more than six years in business. The fireplace damper on the kitchen fireplace was open and sound transmits straight up it to the Denison Room. We normally keep it closed and open it only when we have a fire in the kitchen but, obviously, we accidentally left it open last time. It's too bad that our guests didn't say anything while they were with us as we could have taken steps to remedy the situation then. People visit us for our warmth and genteel home feel. And we've lost count of the number of engagements we've hosted. As we said in our email to them, we're very sorry that we did not completely meet their expectations. But it's true, the female innkeeper will not be serving breakfast in running shoes anytime soon!!

The Denison Room, named for the original owner, has a queen canopy bed, fireplace and spacious private bath equipped with a jetted clawfoot tub. Coffee, tea, hot chocolate and rolls are available every day beginning at 7:00 a.m. A five-course breakfast is served on antique china in the dining room or on the patio. We feature New England favorites such as Boston muffins, fresh baked Anadama bread, farm fresh eggs, baked ham, fresh fruit and homemade preserves.
The Noyes Room is named for the family who became the third owners of the house in the late 18th Century and continued to own it until 1936. The Noyes Room can be made up with either a king-sized bed or two twin beds depending on guest preference. A private bath with tub/shower combination is immediately adjacent.
