4 Persons stayed at this flat, 2 adults and 2 children. This ground floor flat is in the perfect location. When we arrived, we were met by the owner who seemed nice and the flat felt cozy. It was a real shame that we began to discover more and more faults as the days went by. My main concern was the dodgy wiring, sockets hanging out of the walls and the electrical lead for the lamp right next to the wash basin (which was filled with shells!). The flat was actually quite grubby and we were told not to use the owners bin liners but to use our own carrier bags. We were unable to use the cooker as it was covered in the owners own paraphanalia. We were told that a mouse was spotted a few days earlier but to actually see it rummaging in your bags was another matter! The steep stairs leading to the basement bedroom was in fact a ladder, definitely not for the elderly or families with young children. As you climbed out, there's no hand rail so the closest thing to help you up and out is a burning hot water pipe. Also, the taps are either incorrectly marked or unmarked, you can quite easily scald yourself. At 6am everyday without fail, the hot water pipes in the building made a loud banging noise. We informed the agent and that he should come to see for himself but he didn't. To be fair he made offers of alternative arrangements, unfortunately, too late in the day. Upon our return, we contacted the agent and after many e-mails he reluctantly refunded part of the payment. Go to NY for Halloween and join the parade, it was amazing! We planned this trip for the children to experience Halloween NY style, they weren't disappointed (go Trick or Treating New Yorkers were so generous with candy). Only accept this flat is you're willing to put up with all of the above, I really don't think it's worth the hassel or the price (which isn't cheap!).

A very nice place to stay if you want to be in Manhattan! It felt like having your own appartment. Nice to be able to use the kitchen and the living room. A very nice and good atmosphere and the innkeeper was very friendly and helpfull. Our room was a bit small and the beds were not that good and there were some mushrooms growing in the coffee-pot and in the jam. But besides that a really great place to be! Advisable for everyone!

We found the 414 Hotel through BedandBreakfast.com, and were very pleased with our stay. We only had a couple of days in NYC, and so spending a lot of time getting to and from our hotel would not have been useful. 414 is very convenient to theaters, subway, and much of what we wanted to do. The folks at the desk were uniformliy helpful. The room was great and the beds comfortable. While having the A/C on before we got there would have make the initial entry more, comfortable, I understand the need to conserve. Thanks for a great find!

It is a good place to stay in if you want to be in the heart of NY especially if it's your first time. It was very worth it and everything is close by. Central Park is only two blocks away and all other main attractions and stores. We were very happy and expect to return soon.
