We arrived late in the evening for a two night stay, but the lights were on and Bob and Sue were there to welcome us, and J.D. and Morris, the house cats, were lined up to hop on our laps for a cozy nap. We stayed in the comfortable lodge rooms, and truly felt as if we were visiting long-time friends. The breakfasts were outstanding (freshly baked banana bread, buffalo sausage, corn bread casserole, juice, fruit and excellent coffee were just a few of the items on the table!), and the lodge great room was a wonderful place to relax, read, or chat. The fall colors reflected in the pond, the star-filled skies at night, and the views of the mesas and mountains combined to create a memorable get-a-way. View Reviewer Info

My business partner and I were completely exhausted. Our business obligations were challenging us to maintain an 18 hour a day working schedule. Deadlines were pressing. People were waiting. Business plans were pending our response. Speeches needed writing. Courses needed planning. We needed to change our pace, but how? We decided "have computers and cell phones will travel", and headed off to an area that we considered remote, even from our small town. An ad in the Mancos newspaper caught our eye, and a call to the Sundance Bear Lodge sent us heading in their direction. We could not have imagined such an oasis from our then state of near exhaustion. We were met at our car by two innkeepers Sue and Bob, who offered us a most warm welcome, a relaxing tour of the grounds, and led the way to the most comfortable bed we ever experienced. The great room was ours to use this evening as we set up a space that included computer and phone requirements, as well as a place to lay out and prepare our next activity. A walk on the grounds, a dip in the spa, and a snack then led to the best night's sleep possible. The morning found us rested and completely prepared for our days work, though quite unprepared for the surprise of the outstanding gourmet breakfast that was served. We ate like it was Thanksgiving dinner, and lingered quite a time to share stories with the innkeepers. Sue and Bob felt like good new friends. We plan to make this a "destination" stay in the future, just exploring all the wilderness, nature, and peace the area has to offer. (Or maybe we just won't leave the inn!) View Reviewer Info

This lodge has it all- beautiful views, good food, snacks, friendly & helpful hosts, a hot tub, places to hike, friendly cats & a very comfortable great room. The great room lives up to its name. It is a large, attractive, comfortable room with a fireplace, views of beautiful Colorado, games, TV, and reading materials about the region. While our room was small, it had a very comfortable bed and the bathroom was stocked with anything you might have forgotten. We spent most of our time in the great room. View Reviewer Info

This was a great stay. I would recommend Sundance Bear without hesitation.
The hosts did everything they can to make you feel welcome and comfortable. They seemed to consider all the little things that make the stay very special -- like bug repellent, a step stool in the bathroom, and extra large towels specifically for the hot tub. There were even some very funny jokes in the room's guest information guide. I had a good chuckle over those, and these thoughtful suprises made the stay feel very luxurious.
It is clear that the hosts really care about making your stay personal and memorable, and this is the essence of a great BNB experience.
There was a problem with our booking -- I should clarify that I think the problem was me, and that I did not fully complete the online booking process -- so we were essentially turning up unexpected, which can be a problem with small accommodation operators. The room we wanted was not available, but in spite of this little hitch, everything turned out fine. We stayed in the Mesa Verde room. The bed was large and comfy with soft sheets and lots of pillows. The breakfast was great -- belgian waffles, strawberries, sausage, yogurt, coffee, juice -- very filling and tasty.
The lodge is as close to Mesa Verde as you can get, and the little town of Mancos is charming and has all the services you need including a small grocery, gas station, liquor store and restaurants. I wish we would have stayed more than one night as this would make an excellent base for exploring the area. View Reviewer Info
