I have stayed at the Manchester Inn twice previously, but not since 1998. I was pleased to see in August of 2009 that the inn was just as I remembered it, and improved by rooftop green/solar technology. Breakfast at the Manchester Inn is a buffet delight, and the best spread in all of Ocean Grove!! What could be better than breakfast on the front porch, feeling the breeze off of the ocean, watching the children play soccer on the greens, and listening to owner, Clarke, regale us with historical facts and whimsical nostalgia about the inn and God's square mile -- Ocean Grove. You simply can't beat Manchester Inn for location, ambience, value and charm--my travelling mate and I had such a good time that we extended our stay by an additional day!! View Reviewer Info

We stayed one weekday night in early April, and it seemed we were the only guests in the place. Despite the award plaques hanging on the wall near the check-in desk, there was nothing exemplary about the look of the lobby or salon -- random boxes of "stuff" spread about, a rack of undifferentiated clothing placed near the desk, an unplugged fax machine sitting on a washing machine in a side room.... The owner was affable -- enthusiastic, even -- but offered no apologies or explanations for the mess. He showed us to a small room with a balcony on the second floor -- a bit cramped, but serviceable. After the owner left for the day later in the afternoon, we discovered that the TV in the salon worked, but the remote only functioned intermittently. But it was only late that evening, in bed on a windy night, that we discovered how noisy and drafty the place was, creaking loudly in the gusts. I dozed fitfully, but my wife didn't sleep a wink. The coup de grace, however, was reserved for breakfast in the "Secret Garden" dining room. In full view next to the pile of stale bagels and muffins was a basin of dirty plates, cups and saucers, sitting there since God-knows-when. Next to the coffee stand sat a wastebasket nearly overflowing with sugar-packet and artificial-creamer debris. And the pot of coffee brewed up was acid enough to turn my stomach. Maybe it was an off-day....but somehow we don't think we'll be returning for a second try. View Reviewer Info
