Cindy & Charlie, want to thank the entire staff of the Manchester Inn on making it the most wonderful experience of our lives. We had 80 attend the wedding a no one had a negative word to say except we wish we could have stayed longer. Clark was wonderful in helping us plan the wedding and set up rooms for all of our guests and his chef was the best. His food equaled or surpassed many fine restaurants. We want to again thank the staff for a wedding that will always be remembered. We will be back to spend more time at the Inn and enjoy the wonderful surroundings Ocean Grove has to offer.

It was my first time at a B&B, and I had a wonderful experience. The owner Clark was such a gracious host and a great historian. I loved the quaintness of the Inn and the town. I would not hestiate to go back. I enjoyed myself so much, I called my supervisor Monday morning to let him know that I would be staying an extra day.

I have stayed at the Manchester Inn twice previously, but not since 1998. I was pleased to see in August of 2009 that the inn was just as I remembered it, and improved by rooftop green/solar technology. Breakfast at the Manchester Inn is a buffet delight, and the best spread in all of Ocean Grove!! What could be better than breakfast on the front porch, feeling the breeze off of the ocean, watching the children play soccer on the greens, and listening to owner, Clarke, regale us with historical facts and whimsical nostalgia about the inn and God's square mile -- Ocean Grove. You simply can't beat Manchester Inn for location, ambience, value and charm--my travelling mate and I had such a good time that we extended our stay by an additional day!!

If you want peace and serenity, the Manchester Inn in Ocean Grove, NJ is one of a kind. This was our first trip in four years, and we are delighted that we chose this Inn. It offered us a quiet and peaceful atmosphere, and many friendly faces, not to mention a very delicious breakfast every morning. We have never been to a bed and breakfast before, and we found that it fit us to a tee. We look forward to going back there again next year.

Clark and his staff provided a very nice and restful week. A quiet and quaint hotel to match a nostalgic, historic town. Add to that the beach, great weather and an ocean breeze in the evenings, it is an amazing place to stay. The breakfasts were wonderful and varied, eaten in a white table clothed historic dining room or on the open porch. We would love to return again.

Clark is Boss, great guy, he even let me drive the mini. The breakfast was more then expected, it was a breakFEAST and the food was of high quality. The rooms were comfortable and home like. The view was great, as your hardly a block from the shore. Sitting on a rocking chair on the large porch watching the quaint town while feeling a cool breeze was complete bliss.

I have stayed at the Manchester three times now and couldn't disagree more with the people who wrote negative reviews. The inn was established in the late 1800's, so of course rooms are smaller and quirkier than a mega-hotel or new construction B&B, but that's exactly what makes it special and charming. I have had nothing but positive experiences here, especially with the warmth of the staff and the excellent food. The inn has just the kind of casual, homey atmosphere that my fiance and I seek out in a B&B, and we will continue to come back for years to come.

I recently stayed at the Manchester for a 2 day get-away with my friend. I don't usually write reviews, but after reading some of them – I had just the opposite experience. We had a wonderful room with an old fashioned footed bath tub. It was clean and comfortable and I asked about the sheets and was told they were 400 count which made them crisp and comfortable. There were some things around the living room, but since the owners live there I expected to see personal items. To me it made it more homey. The breakfast was great – we got eggs cooked to order, bacon (sausage for my friend) and fresh fruit. I like breakfast, so having more than muffins and danish was a plus. Ocean Grove is a wonderful town and the local hardware store rents bikes, which we did one afternoon. Our over all experience was comfortable and relaxing and I appreciated Clark's (owners) banter and information about the Inn. We plan on coming back in the summer with family.

We stayed one weekday night in early April, and it seemed we were the only guests in the place. Despite the award plaques hanging on the wall near the check-in desk, there was nothing exemplary about the look of the lobby or salon -- random boxes of "stuff" spread about, a rack of undifferentiated clothing placed near the desk, an unplugged fax machine sitting on a washing machine in a side room.... The owner was affable -- enthusiastic, even -- but offered no apologies or explanations for the mess. He showed us to a small room with a balcony on the second floor -- a bit cramped, but serviceable. After the owner left for the day later in the afternoon, we discovered that the TV in the salon worked, but the remote only functioned intermittently. But it was only late that evening, in bed on a windy night, that we discovered how noisy and drafty the place was, creaking loudly in the gusts. I dozed fitfully, but my wife didn't sleep a wink. The coup de grace, however, was reserved for breakfast in the "Secret Garden" dining room. In full view next to the pile of stale bagels and muffins was a basin of dirty plates, cups and saucers, sitting there since God-knows-when. Next to the coffee stand sat a wastebasket nearly overflowing with sugar-packet and artificial-creamer debris. And the pot of coffee brewed up was acid enough to turn my stomach. Maybe it was an off-day....but somehow we don't think we'll be returning for a second try.

I read the reviews at the time of booking from another review site-and I even called the innkeeper to question the bad reviews-only to be told that the reviews were incorrect and that the inn was not how the other people reviewed it. HOW WRONG HE WAS! The place is in a state of disrepair and needs cleaning, painting, new furnishings, updated bathrooms, new carpeting, ect. Our room also had a large orange industrial extension cord running around the door jam, down the wall and on to the floor to plug in the air conditioner. And the soap and shampoo were really from the Showboat Casino--with Manchester stickers over the Showboat name. The shampoo was of inferior quality and smelled bad. Bath towels were small and reminded me of towels from a cheap chain motel. We stayed in a room that had a sign on the dresser that stated it was a wellness room. I was disappointed with this "world-renowned" sleep system and will take my Tempurpedic over it any day. I took the mattress cover off and the mattress pad looked like any other foam mattress pad you buy anywhere--did not seem like it was anything special. Also, our king bed was just two old twins beds pushed together. We decided NOT to eat there and we went to The Starving Artist. When I look at the website--I feel like I am going to be staying at a beautiful B&B well worth the $160 per night rate. The website is well done--but not accurate as to how the inn really is. We were very, very disappointed.

I am sad to write this review because the owner was very courteous and charismatic. However, the Inn seems to be in a state of disrepair. The place is in need of some basic maintenance and beautification. The bed smelled bad, the ceilings were peeling, the shower curtains were mildewed, and it was in need of a good cleaning. There is clutter everywhere. The towels are motel quality. The decor needs a major overhaul. Clark is very nice and the porch is great, but I would not stay there again. I think some of the rooms may be nicer, but ours was not.

We've been going to The Manchester Inn for over 5 years now. We've tried others in the area, but ended up returning to The Manchester. The reason: Clark and his staff go above and beyond expectation with every request to make your stay pleasurable. And the people who stay there seem to be as personable and friendly as the gracious host. The place is quaint, the breakfast is generous, and the atmosphere is relaxed. It's why you go to a B&B and not a hotel.

The Central Jersey Tall Friends club booked the perfect Inn! We held a dinner dance fundraiser for 41 people April 28th in their charming dining room, and 20 of us were glad we spent the night. Dinner was fabulous, the beef was voted simply the best. Breakfast was outstanding. Clark and his staff were exceptionally accommodating, from a simple request for coffee during set up to having food for guests arriving beyond the buffet time frame. Clark made the whole weekend run smoothly for our group as well as the other guests at his Inn. I can't say enough great things about the Manchester Inn! Already looking forward to next year!
