Our stay here was wonderful! We felt that we became friends, if not family, with hosts David and Phillip. The room was wonderful, the breakfast was great, the location was perfect, and the company was outstanding! We won't be staying anywhere other than here in New Orleans ever again, and we're counting the days until we can come back!

This was our first visit to New Orleans, and the Royal Street Courtyard was wonderful! Location was perfect - we walked to everything - and we tried many of Phillip's recommendations for dining and entertainment and enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. The accomodations were clean and comfortable and laid-back, and I felt as though we were just staying with friends. Royal Street was the perfect complement to the unique charm of New Orleans.

This place is great plain and simple. The owners are helpful and have loads of tips on where to go, what to do, where to eat and how to get there!! It is quiet, the rooms are WONDERFUL and the breakfast is great. You do not feel like you are staying at a bed and breakfast, you feel more like you are staying at home! (A home where you do not have to make breakfast or clean). We stayed in room #11 which has a private bathroom and a GREAT balcony that you can sit on and watch the neighborhood. It is a lovely room. The bed is comfortable and is decorated with a lot of class and style. The location is great. It takes about 10 minutes to walk to the quarter, and within a block or two there are 2 great cafes and a wonderful neighborhood kiosk/restaurant that has a GREAT veggie burger and PO Boy (meatball). Go here! Do not stay in a hotel! It is so worth it. the price, atmosphere and location cannot be beat!!

Had a great stay at this wonderful b&b from 7/8/09 to 7/11/09. My girlfriend and I can not recommend it enough. The property is beautiful. The neighborhood is just . . . fun: a quaint, artistic area that is only a few blocks from the Quarter and has lots of character. Philip made us feel at home with a property tour and a host of recommendations for eating and local attractions. (Do as he says - get off Bourbon and hit Frenchman street and other places this great city has to offer). He and David are fantastic hosts - always readily available, friendly, and very helpful. They made our stay even better. Our room was very clean and well-furnished. We loved having a balcony (I highly recommend room #11). Our stay was a great value as well - very reasonably priced. This was so much better than staying in an overpriced hotel in the Quarter or a bland (i.e., no character) corporate place downtown. Stay here. You'll be glad you did.

For my first visit to the city, I couldn't have had better accomodations. The owners were friendly and helpful, and made sure even our smallest concerns were taken care of. Mr. Lege had plenty of suggestions for activities and restaurants right in the area. The grounds are lovely and the place is very well maintained. I felt that all the modern amenities were available without sacrificing an authentic experience of local flavor and history. I give it the highest rating, and I told them I will be back! (FYI, make sure you get a balcony room so you get a nice view of the neighborhood.)

I stayed 4 nights at the Royal Street Courtyard during the Essence Music Festival July 2-6, 2009. As soon as I arrived, I was given a tour of the property. The owner, Phillip, was down-to-earth and treated everyone like family. My room was just as described. The price was well within reason. Breakfast included muffins, bagels, cereal, coffee, fruit, toast, tea, and juice. It was enough fuel to hold me over until lunchtime. Phillip checked on me everyday. He made sure I was enjoying my stay by recommending historic landmarks and great places to eat. I used the city bus ($1.60) and the street car ($1.25) to get to all of the planned activities. The Courtyard was only a 10 minute walk from the French Quarter. When my flight landed, I took the (E-2) city bus from the Airport to the French Quarter. While my friends paid $33.00 for a cab ride, I only paid $1.60. The bus dropped me off 2 blocks from Canal Street. I took the street car to the Frenchmen Street and then walked to Royal Street. There were so many shops and cafes along Frenchmen. All the shop owners and residents were overly friendly. The food was great and the service was outstanding. I walked home every night and not once did I feel unsafe…the streets were bustling and the parties didn’t stop until 4am......The entire ambiance was very relaxing. I had a pleasant time at the Royal Street Courtyard.

Having stayed at the Royal Street Courtyard 5 years ago, my husband and I visited again in May this year when driving from Savannah to Fort Worth - a bit of a detour but well worth it! The hosts, Phillip and David, are welcoming, helpful and charming and it felt like we were back with old friends. The hotel feels quaint and quirky, but then so is New Orleans. It's good value and continental breakfast is included. There's free street parking right outside. It's a bit of a walk to the Centre but never dull - and a taxi costs very little. In summary - just a great, well priced friendly and welcoming place to stay, with a lot of character!

Me, Thomas Kennedy & my girlfriend Amy went up to Royal st. courtyard for a Sunday / Monday get away. We will be heading back quite often. We have found the perfect place in nola to take a break from our very busy lives in Lafayette. The spot is away from the loud areas of bourbon/ canal BUT still within a few blocks of the French market. The surrounding neighborhood is nice with many nice people around. Great local shops with down to earth non-intrusive staffs are also right around the corner. Phillip the owner was a perfect host & read us very well. He recommended the best place to eat that was NOT the normal tourist trap that we avoid. Honestly it was the best meals out I’ve had in years. The grounds are serine & calming. Very clean place, great breakfast in the morning & well light/safe at night. Nothing overdone & thank god there is a hot tub that functioned properly on the grounds. Last but not least the price is lower than most hotels in the area. I am so grateful for that. If you want a TRUE nola experience everything you need is within a 5-block radius of the royal street courtyard.

The host, Phil, is by far the nicest we have encountered in our B&B travels. Had good recs on everything from restaurants to hospital emergency rooms (my husband had an upleasant bout of food poisoning) even after we'd moved to another hotel to be near my work conference. We really enjoyed our stay at this B&B. The house is beautiful, and the innkeepers so nice. Phillip was particularly very helpful : he gave us a warm welcome and was an excellent advisor for places to eat or listen to music. Furthermore, the location is really good, 5 minutes from Frenchmen Street where there are some cool bars to listen to good music, far from the chaos of Bourbon Street. And overall Faubourg Marigny is a very cool area to go for a walk. The guest house is 15 minutes from the French Quarter. On the downside, don’t expect to have homemade pancakes & muffins, but you will still have a robust breakfast with a large selection of bagels and cereals for instance, and this B&B remains an excellent value for money and we definitely recommend it. PS: don't miss a trip to the hot tub in the backyard : it is "open" 24/7.

Royal Street Courtyard Bed and Breakfast is an outstanding place to stay in New Orleans. The building is beautiful and loaded with charm; the rooms are beautifully decorated; the ceilings are high with ceiling fans and there's a great balcony that extends the full length of the front. We loved it! The innkeeps, Phillip and David, could not have been more hospitable. The breakfast was casual and unhurried, with a variety of breads, muffins, bagels, cereals, juices and coffee. Royal Street Courtyards is located in the Marigny, walking distance to the Quarter. Nightime was quite peaceful. This is the place to stay in New Orleans!

Phillip and David are great and will make sure you have a wonderful stay while in NO. We were there for my neice's wedding. The rest of the family stayed in hotels in or near the Quarter. They were nickeled and dimed for parking and everything else. When I first asked Phillip about parking he said you would have to park on the street. As it turned out, my vehicle was never any farther than 20 or 30 feet and best of all it was free. The location is just far enough fromt he hustle and bustle to get some piece and quiet yet close enough you can walk to see all the sights. Thanks for a wonderful stay Phillip & David.

I only wish we could have stayed longer!! I was lucky enough to find this gem when searching for a place to stay over one night while traveling thru NOL. It was a great location with an easy walk to French Quarters. We stayed in room #11 which was pretty, clean and had a comfortable bed. We had an attached bath with a small shower stall but the water temp and pressure was great. Room #11 has direct access to the 2nd floor balcony through a cool floor-to-ceiling window that easily opened. The breakfast was nice with a variety of breads, bagels, fruits, juices and cereals (the raisin bread was delicious). The best part of this B&B was the innkeeper, Phillip. He was so friendly, fun and helpful. His recommendation for dinner was perfect. Phillip even called my cell phone to make sure that we found the restaurant! He made us feel so welcomed and comfortable. And, of course, I must also mention Moe the cat who allowed us to pet her but only at her discretion. Thanks, Phillip, for a short but wonderful trip!!!

Phillip was charming, friendly, helpful. He was always there to greet us when we returned "home". Good location - within a few blocks of the Quarter and Frenchmen's St. and many good restaurants in the area. We loved the neighborhood, the house, our room (#11) - everything! It's a short and easy walk to the French Quarter, the clubs on Frenchman Street, etc., and the house is situated in a pleasant and quiet neighborhood which feels worlds away from the craziness of the Bourbon Street area. Sorry David and Phil for the late review. My husband and I were there the weekend after Thanksgiving. We knew of the B&B because our daughter used to live down the street. The neighborhood is nice and quiet. People say HI as you walk towards the Quarter. We had the room off the back of the house and across the walkway on the second floor. It was very private and cosy. The decor is great, many antique items in the parlor and dining room. As others have said, the location is great for the Quarter and Frenchman St. There are lots of local places to eat, one being the Cafe Rose Nicaud on Frenchman St, which is a favorite of ours. Loved the resident cat. We enjoyed our stay at the Inn and would not hesitate to go back again.

On our recent trip to New Orleans, we had the pleasure of staying w/ Phillip and David at the Royal Street Courtyard. The room was amazing as was the service and location. No car needed there! We were able to walk to the Quarter and enjoy the sights along the way. Their rates are reasonable and the inkeepers are awesome. Next time you take a trip to the Big Easy, stay at Royal Street Courtyard. You won't regret your choice.. LJK Birmingham, AL

Absolutely wonderful. Our New Orleans trip was already pretty great, but staying at the Royal Street Courtyard really made the whole experience SPECTACULAR. The property is well within walking distance of Frenchmen St. as well as the Quarter. We (2 short asian girls!) never at all felt nervous about walking back and forth at night. RSC is a beautiful building: well kept, gorgeously landscaped (I love that little fountain) very comfortable. We booked room #10, which had access to the second floor balcony which overlooks the street. Beautiful room, very comfortable bed, and a fabulous balcony. Only caveat: I think some lounge chairs would have been great. We took naps splayed out on the balcony on the hottest parts of the day, and the breeze and shade were wonderful. Room #10's bathroom is not ensuite - it's a door down the hallway. Caveat: TINY Bathroom, but very charming. The only bad thing was due to the humidty, it could get a little moldy smelling in the bathroom. No biggie - we would keep the door cracked open when were weren't using it. The shower was quite small but there was excellent water pressure, and deliciously cold weather. Breakfast choices were nice - make sure to get some raisin bread and toast it, and eat with a little cream cheese. AWESOME. As for our hosts, Phillip was a doll. We loved him - very charming, very helpful, and fun to chit-chat with whenever we ran into him. He's not intrusive at all - supremely easy to talk to, but also never makes you feel like you HAVE to make awkward small talk. Make sure to take some time to just hang out and chill and enjoy the RSC. I wish we'd taken more time to hang out on the porch and play with the cats, or sit out back in the hot tub. Next time, we're staying here again!

I am staying here again when I return to New Orleans. Philip was simply the best. Friendly and helpful. The place was beautiful with 14' ceilings and wonderful decor. The bed was so comfortable I almost slept the entire afternoon and the neighborhood was very nice. Very close to the French Quarter but not in the midst of it. Really a great place to stay!

Within walking distance to the Quarter and Frenchmen, you don't need to take any cabs when you stay here. The service is excellent and the rooms (especially those on the balcony) clean and, ornate, make you feel right at home. My only complaint is the price -- it should be twice as much!

Very privileged and fortunate to stay in such a beautiful house with really lovely hosts. Phillip and David not only ensure your every guest need is catered for, they extend a friendly welcome that extends to the last minute you stay with them. Stay and appreciate the architecture, the characters and the attractions within this part of the city. We parked the car right out the front of the house and walked for the duration of the stay. Thank you, we will always have happy memories of your hospitality.

Our trip was from August 23-30, and we couldn't have asked for a better experience! Phillip and David are spectacular hosts, and can tell you anything you need to know about dining or touring New Orleans. Our friend decided to join us at the last minute, and they were more than gracious in accommodating us, even with the very short notice. There are a variety of dining options in the area, depending on what you're looking for and how far you are willing to travel. For the concept alone, Schiro's Community Center was the best; it's a neighborhood grocery/bar/Laundromat just a block away, with great food and a very local neighborhood flavor. The French Quarter is about a mile away, but easy to navigate (there are no hills in the city), even in the hot weather that we had during our stay. Better music and more fun was closer, on Frenchmen Street, which was a mere 5 blocks away. We walked all over the area and felt very safe, although I would never walk in any major city alone after dark. We stayed in Room 9, complete with a balcony, and our own bathroom was just across the hall. This might be a problem for some travelers, but not a big deal for us at all, and some rooms do have private baths. An assortment of muffins, breakfast pastries, cereals, bagels, fruit, juice and coffee comprised our breakfast options. Lots of old world charm, very comfortable and funky fun! Clean, very cost-efficient and over the top service, we are already planning our next trip!

I stumbled upon the Royal Street Courtyard by accident while looking to book our normal room in a larger hotel in the French Quarter and decided to see if they had rooms available. When I called and talked to Phillip I knew without a doubt this would be my new home away from home while staying in New Orleans! When I arrived I was amazed at how nice this B&B was, especially for the price! I usually pay at least double for half the charm and style so to say the least I was excited about the stay. The room we stayed in (#11) was beautifully decorated and VERY clean. The bed was comfy and made us feel more like we were sleeping at home then in some hotel. Overall the entire experience was more like going and staying with friends then taking a trip to a hotel. Phillip was the most helpful inn keeper I have ever met! Although I felt as if my many phone calls were a bother he was always more then willing to give help and information and bent over backwards to make sure we were comfortable and happy! We stay in New Orleans often, usually 2 or more times a month and have stayed at many of what people think are top notch hotels and Royal Street Courtyard blows all of these over-priced, unfriendly, tourist attractions out of the water! We WILL be back and will make sure to tell everyone we know about this true gem!! Thanks Phillip and David, we love you guys!

Great hospitality started before I ever stepped foot on the property. I was driving solo from Atlanta and Phillip called my cell to make sure everything was okay. As I got closer to the property, I called Phillip who directed me to available street parking. That's just awesome service. It continued through my 2 day stay. The property had the 3 C's I always require: clean, comfortable, and close to attractions and restaurants. Phillip was very knowledgeable of good restaurants and bars along with the history of the area. I don't know what more to say but I definitely will return to New Orleans and Royal Street Courtyard will be my choice of B&B.

It's clear to see that the Faubourg Marigny has deep roots. The sidewalks are great fun after a few drinks! However, the sidewalks around The Royal Street Courtyard are fine. Current innkeepers Phillip Lege and David Smith obviously and lovingly care for this charming bed and breakfast. Phillip was full of knowledge for local eateries and entertainment and couldn't have been more pleasant and accommodating. We had room ten, on the second floor. The room had floor to ceiling windows which are counter-weighted to open fully onto the large, spectacular balcony complete with original, beautiful wrought iron and hand carved cypress finials overhead running the entire width of the house. A small round table with chairs and wicker couch were also on the balcony. Sitting out there, perched above the street each morning and evening was calming, watching interesting people of the neighborhood below, some riding their bikes or scooters with musical instruments strapped aboard, headed to wherever. The bedding was comfortable and attractive. Plenty of drawer space on the marble topped dresser and matching bedside nightstands. A mid-sized armoire tops off enough space to stay several weeks. The bathroom for room ten is across the hall with shower only. No tub. It was well maintained and the towels were nice and fluffy. Having to cross the hall to use this room may be an inconvenience to some but having the large king bed room with access to the balcony makes it worthwhile. The continental breakfasts were above satisfactory and the coffee was great. The Faubourg Marigny is a very nice place to stay. Not far from the now famous Frenchman St. You can be in the center of the Vieux Carre' (French Quarter) within a fifteen minute, safe stroll all the while viewing and enjoying the local architectural history. No car needed! We would stay there again (and again). Thanks Phillip and David. Hope visit again soon.

Stayed at Royal Street Courtyard January 2007. It was my first experience with a B&B and it was EXCELLENT! I wasn't sure what to think at first, but the style and charm of the place wins you over. Not to mention the owners! Philip is a treat and VERY knowledgeable about attractions and places to see in New Orleans. He not only recommended a most excellent restaurant more on that below) for us he kept me company while my travel partner slept! Talk about above and beyond! If he recommends that you dine at Adolpho's (sp?) GO, it is some of the best food you will ever eat. Take cash as that is all that they accept at Adolpho's. The rooms and bathroom at the B&B were nice, organized and clean. Overall one of the best travel experiences I have had. I will definitely go and vist Philip, I mean stay at the Royal Street Courtyard again!

I stayed at Royal Street Courtyard with friends in 2006 the first weekend of Mardi Gras. The owners are very nice and helpful. The premises are very clean. It's just a beautiful and well priced place to stay. It's an easy walk to the French Quarter, and pretty close to the aquarium and St. Charles Street Car. It's also right on the route for the Krewe de Vieux parade, so you can sit up on the porch and watch! I'm coming back this year and I know I will return many more times to Royal Street Courtyard.
