I was traveling alone. I've picked b&bs before and always enjoy meeting the locals, but this was a real find. Jim was the perfect host. He gave me a quick tour of the city, rides to downtown, directions on how to get around on public trans in this unfamiliar city. Very comfortable place, clean, fun. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful. I will definitely go back. Oh, did I mention "the boys"? His two adorable dogs? we spent a full week in denver and had a fantastic time with elryia's as our "home base." we're not totally sure maxx actually exists, but jim was the best! while maxx keeps busy with his work schedule, jim holds down the fort assuring that their guests are well taken care of. we particularly enjoyed breakfast time and jim's obvious enthusiasm as we recounted our previous days adventures - all over fresh hot coffee and sticky buns! the location is unbeatable - just a short jaunt into downtown denver and easy access to both I25 and I70. while elyria's is not located within walking distance of denver's main attractions, the area was safe and quiet - and if you don't have a car, jim seems happy to play the occasional chaffeur. as other reviewers have mentioned, the decor is a feast for the eyes. jim has a story for every knick-knack, every picture on the walls (and there are many!), accentuating the personal qualities that make this place so special. in fact, after a few days, you feel more like you are visiting old friends than staying in a hotel. and one last thing - an extra special thank you to jim for helping us out when our travel plans took an unexpected turn. the concert we were supposed to attend at red rocks was postponed due to bad weather and rescheduled for the day of our departure from denver. after complaining to deaf ears at ticketmaster and paying a small fortune to change our flight, jim came through for us and let us stay an extra night free of charge. that would never happen at the HILTON!

Difficult to write a review in a foreign language! But very easy to describe Elyria's B&B 2 rooms: comfortable, clean, quiet. I enjoyed the family atmosphere very much and was surprised by the "energy" of Jim and Maxx's adorable "flatmates", Buster and Buddy, two friendly Scnautzers. I felt at home, decided to extend my vacation in Denver and had the chance to stay in Jim and Maxx's cabin out of Denver, in a quiet location on the mountains. An adorable and relaxing place: reading, hiking and taking pictures were my everyday's occupations. Last but not least: breakfast is excellent. No doubt: Elyria's is the prototype of B&Bs!

Here are my top ten reasons why Elyria's Western Guest House in Denver, Colorado is the best bed and breakfast I have ever stayed in, and will continue to stay at as long as I am living, visiting Denver, and need a great place to stay. Number one: The price. You will not find a better price and I guarantee this. Number two: The place is awesome! The building is historical, the décor is tasteful, and the rooms are very nice. Number three: The location. Elyria's is centrally located where interstate I-70 and I-25 come together. Number four: Jim and Maxxx. The owners are hospitable, funny, great storytellers, and also serve as your personal concierge, chauffeur and all around personal attendant. I promise you, you will not find better owners in the business. Number five: The garden. The garden is an absolute paradise. Number six: Buster and Buddy. These are their adorable Yorkshire terrier dogs. Number seven: The breakfast is excellent. The coffee is top notch, and the food is healthy. Number eight: Little details. They have the best his and her terrycloth robes that are very comfortable. Number nine: Two rooms only. The place is small and intimate. Number ten: The cabin. I saved the best for last. You get two places for the price of one. You can either sleep in Denver, Colorado, or weather permitting, sleep in their cabin up in the mountains. The Cabin is isolated and next to a national park, so there is plenty of privacy in your own personal wilderness. So there are my top ten reasons why you should call up Jim or Maxxx and make a reservation right now for your stay in Denver, Colorado, and look no further. When you call, tell them Steven in Atlanta and his top ten list is the main reason why you decided to book a room. You will not regret it, I promise you that!

During the dog show, I stayed here because it was right across the street within easy walking distance. My dog stayed on the show grounds, but I still had company from the two delightful Min. Schnauzers who share the space with Jim and Maxx. This isn't a fancy place, but it does feel like home. There's something interesting to look at no matter where you cast your eye, and Jim and Maxx are thoughtful and friendly without being intrusive. Staying here is like staying with a friend. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone but especially to those attending events at the Western Complex because it's so convenient.

The white building on the corner with the gecko hides a real fun place to stay. Jim is a gracious host and a great cook (fresh sweet rolls every morning). The decor is, well, lets just call it Elyria's Western Guest House decor 'cause there's nothing to compare it with. From the stoplight in the corner to the sliding barn door on the wall, there's something new to look at every time you turn your head. Also, the built in lap warmers in the form of two crazed miniature schnauzers, Buddy and Buster, give you that "at home" feeling. Central to most downtown activities, its a great place to stay.

Wow. what to say in a review? we loved Jim and Maxx's place, which has been around since 1895. My sister and I ( 2 very middle aged ladies) met for a few days in Denver and couldn't have been happier. The house is a combination of (real) antiques from the family and odd items, wonderfully arranged, with original art works on an enclosed patio. Jim and Maxx welcomed us into their home, as did the dogs. The area is situated such that you can travel anywhere is 20 minutes. Breakfast is more than you can eat. The bathroom is renovated and quite lovely, with a huge shower. Amazingly enough, the cost is way below most places thus the value is excellent. But more importantly, we were really made to feel special. FYI: computer available for use, print your plane passes and get a ride in one of the many cars- Jim will take you most anywhere reasonable. Even the garage is decorated!

The guest house was a constant topic of conversation among us during our stay in Denver. We were really charmed by Jim and Maxxx, the place's quirks, and yes, the dogs. It's not the usual hotel experience, and there is a touch of feeling that you're simply staying over at their house, but we really felt welcome, and you can't beat the price.

This is the place to start and end a trip through cowboy-country! The whole interior design is carefully arranged and the garden is worth to see. The rooms are neat (and tricky lighted), the bathroom is clean and You can share Your sweetroll-breakfast with Buddy and Buster, the two dogs. We had a fantastic time staying at Elyria's western guesthouse. It is completely unique in its decor, and the room is much nicer than you'd expect for the price. Jim was extremely helpful and friendly; as he says himself on the website, it felt more like being his guest than like staying in an ordinary guesthouse. We spent a night in their 'cabin' in the mountains, which was more like a chalet, with marvelous walks and with a bed the size of a small room! Highly recommended. Lucy and Mark

If you'd like a cross between "little house on the prairie" and "the wild, wild west" then this is the place for you. We were looked after really well, bedroom was clean and comfortable - albeit a bit cluttered. Convenient location, at great price.

We loved it. First bed I've been able to sleep in for 5 years. Jim and Maxx were great. They treated us like family and so did the dogs. The garden is awesome, and the house was comfortable and easy to be in. I cant say enough good things about the stay and Jim/Maxx.

Jim is a marvelous host in this historic BnB...the building is creatively outfitted in western stuff, painted in warm masculine colors, nicely furnished and comfy to hang around in and move about...the grounds are eclectic, charming, and welcoming...It felt like home away from home, complete with lap warming pooches, which we hated to say goodbye to. We definitely recommend it and would stay again when visiting Denver. It was a tremendous value for our money.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Elyria's! I was a bit skepical becasue of teh low cost, but found myself very pleasantly surprised! Jim and Maxx are very friendly, the room I had was clean and suitable for my needs. The bathroom for my use was always clean. I enjoyed having coffee first thing each morning as well as sweet rolls. While they provided more, I don't usually do much for breakfast. I will return another time, for sure.
