I've visited Kelly Place several times over the past few years, and I have already made reservations for next spring. It is a destination in and of itself, very serene, spiritual and rich with history, there's no limit of things to discover. If you are accustomed to more posh accomodations, then spend the extra and get one of the cabins, especially the deluxe cabin which is set apart with it's own patio and very spacious. It's great to have one of the rooms with a kitchenette if you are staying awhile and don't want to go to Cortez for dinner everyday. If you are looking for a comfortable place to rest and don't need the "extras," the lodge rooms are great! So here is the reason to visit - explore! First check out the self guided tour - the kiva's are incredible - and watch your step so you don't break any potsherds. Then hike into the Canyons of the Ancients to discover ruins one after another, then hike Sand Canyon (WOW!), then go to Hovenweep, then Mesa Verde if you still haven't had enough. But by then, you'll find the crowds at Mesa Verde to be kind of annoying. Anyway, once you come here, you will get it. Oh yeah, you get a really good breakfast too... View Reviewer Info

This was our third stay at Kelly Place and each time we experience more of its charm. The location could not be more beautiful or secluded. The fact that the property encompasses Ancient Puebloan ruins, including kivas and many artifacts, plus hiking access to Canyons of the Ancients National Monument, makes it a perfect spot to explore or relax. It is close to Mesa Verde and Hovenweep, for those interested in Indian ruins and their history.
The grounds at Kelly Place are beautiful. The accomodations we've stayed in have been delightful, roomy and comfortable. The deluxe cabin is our favorite and the 2-bedroom modular suite is perfect for families with a full kitchen and a great deck with grill and table for outdoor dining while enjoying the view.
Breakfasts were hearty and varied and there were always cookies, muffins, fruit, coffee and tea available during the day. The extensive library is full of great books on the area, the ancient Indian culture, and the Kellys (who originally purchased the land in 1960s).
We are definitely going to return -- there is too much more to explore -- and this is the perfect place to have as "headquarters."
