Jul 13, 2008 Just returned from a visit to Rhode Island and a few nights at the Murray House Bed and Breakfast. To put it in my daughter's words, "IT WAS AWESOME!" This wonderful Inn, set far enough apart from the hustle and bustle of downtown Newport (although even that is a quick five minute drive!) and within a quick walk to the beach and the end of the Cliff Walk, is as uniquely special a place as you will find anywhere. The pool is surrounded by beautifully maintained gardens, potted plants, topiaries, cushy chaise lounges, more plants, a charming koi pond with a waterfull, a hot tub, and a resident and quite friendly big old cat named Jamie. It is as though, once you pass through the wooden gate bearing the plaque "Welcome" - you step into another world where peace and relaxation abound! Our room was clean, roomy, and inviting. The Innkeeper, Noreen, was most gracious and accommodating, and full of information regarding Newport and what to see and where to dine. (At this point I feel compelled to mention her recommendation of Tucker's on Broadway - a french bistro type place where Tucker himself greets you and the food it to DIE FOR!) Although Noreen was always there if you needed her, the really nice thing was that she mostly stayed behind the scenes and let you enjoy your time together. A little vase of fresh flowers awaited us in our room with a note from Noreen saying "Welcome. Enjoy." I can't say enough about the Murray House. It is truly a little gem that one feels very lucky to have discovered. We are hoping to carve some time out this winter to take advantage of Noreen's reduced rates and go back to enjoy the city and the mansions all full of Christmas!! It is truly hard to describe the ambience at the Murray House -- but try it and you will understand...... Thanks Noreen! We'll see you soon - perhaps under some snowflakes! As two native New Yorkers looking for a bit of peace & quiet, we were very pleased with the perfect location of Murray House -- just the right distance from the hustle & bustle of downtown Newport. We found the Pond View Suite to be cozy and charming, yet quite spacious. The weather outside was hot, yet somehow our suite stayed cool & comfortable -- we left the AC off the whole weekend! Our first morning, we got up early & took a cab to the beginning of the Cliff Walk, that way we would end up right by Murray House -- we were very happy we did it this way. Upon leaving after our two night getaway, we were daydreaming about extending our stay, just to have some more time to enjoy & appreciate the beautiful grounds, take a dip in the pool, & relax in the jacuzzi. Next time! ;)

Everything you could be looking for is right here at the Murray House. Privacy? Plenty! Serenity? You bet! Location? Can't get better! Coziness? Absolutely! Unbeatable hospitality? Without a doubt!! Thank you, Noreen, for making our wedding stay so incredibly special. You've gone above and beyond any expectation we could have had. We were looking for a place to stay with our 2, well behaved dogs. While doing a web search, I came across 1 Murray House. It sounded perfect, so I called and spoke to Noreen, the inn keeper, for further details. I wanted to make sure I would be able to leave the dogs in the room when we went out for dinner. I needed to know they would be safe. The set-up was ideal for our needs - we had our own entrance. As we were visiting off season, the kitchenette was a plus. I immediately made reservations. Our stay was wonderful. Noreen is a gracious hostess. Our dogs were greeted and given "Goodie Bags" One of the toys that was in the bag has been Netop's favorite toy ever since - he takes it everywhere. I like to think he is remembering our wonderful stay at Murray House. The location is perfect. It was easy for us to get where we wanted to be. Walking the dogs was easy and there even was a nearby doggie park. The room was comfortable. All of our needs were met. I recommend 1 Murrary House. We hope to return again.

We've visited Noreen's b&b three times and couldn't recommend it more highly. It is a quiet and tranquil oasis a short drive (or long walk) away from the hustle and bustle. You will feel your cares melt away at this calm and treasured spot. In just a few minutes walk you can enjoy the Cliff Walk or beach for your morning or evening stroll... or you can wander by the mansions! We love the pool and the covered deck outside the garden room where you can enjoy the serenity rain or shine. We don't eat breakfast, so I can't comment on the cooking, but Noreen always brings us fresh fruit and a muffin anyway ;-). She is the perfect hostess and is incredibly dog friendly and our shepherd Zelda always has a great time too. We'll be back next year!

What a unique find! Nestled in the "backyards' of the mansions of Bellevue Ave, Murray House B&B offers convenience, comfort, serenity. A splash in the pool, a bubble in the hot tub, a dreamy gaze off to the horizon, or a snuggle down get comfy charming room to escape cares and worries. One cannot help but smile. Murray House is situated in an easy walk distance from Bellevue Ave, Baileys Beach, Cliff Walk and a few restaurants. For the comfort of furry guests there is a dog walk park about a block and a half down the road. Off Season is a favorite time to visit, rates are on the BYOB (bring your own breakfast) schedule, and the tourism rush has settled down. Shops are open and restaurants are less crowded. The holidays find Murray House quietly sparkling with fwstive dishes, seasonal decorations, and one room even has a small fireplace look-alike to snuggle near. From the awakening gardens in Springtime, to a Summers bounty breakfast, through the easiness of Fall and its afterglow, to the child like wonder anf friendliness of the holiday season...Murray House is a harbor for the travellers who just know.

How lucky I was to stumble upon this fabulous inn. You couldn't ask for a hostess any better than Noreen. Your room is always perfect; the breakfast is the best, but I even love going during off season when breakfast isn't served; the grounds are beautiful; and it is very convenient to anything in Newport. I love, love, love to spend time there. It is the one place I go that truly relaxes my body and soul. I only wish I could visit more often.
