My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Roebling. DJ and Joann were perfect guests - unassuming and helpful at the same time. Breakfast was delicious and we stayed in the cottage next to the inn which offered a charming, cozy atmosphere. Campfires under the stars on the banks of the Delaware were a great way to end the day. For a low-key trip to experience all the beauty the upper Delware river valley has to offer, the Roebling is the place for you!

The Roebling Inn offered the perfect respite from the harried life of the big city. Just to wake up in the morning and hear a bird singing outside the window and see the Delaware just a stone's throw away flowing peacefully by was a great stress reliever. The inn is located at the junction of the Delaware and the Lackawaxen and the area is rich in history. As an added bonus, the Lackwaxen is a great river for trout fishing, which was one of the reasons we went. DJ and JoAnn, the innkeepers, were great hosts, giving us some sightseeing, eatings and fishing tips. My wife and I have a ritual: I say "Let's come back here,'' and she says "You always say that and we never do." We probably will make an exception for the Roebling Inn.

We stayed at the Roebling Inn on the Delaware in early November - too early to catch a good view of any eagles, which was a disappointment, but we did get to enjoy the beautiful view of the Delaware River from our window, and we had a chance to explore the surrounding area a bit too. The inn itself was clean and well maintained, our room very nice - although you really had to crank up the heat to enjoy the electric fireplace, and breakfast was very nice. There isn't much to the town of Lackawaxen - although the Roebling Bridge is neat to visit and the scenic drive just over the bridge into New York is fun. If you're looking for some place fairly remote and out of the way, peaceful, and quiet; then the Roebling Inn might be for you. If you're looking for a little more to do, you might want to look elsewhere.

Innkeeper Response
Just a word about bald eagles--The Upper Delaware River Valley has dozens of breeding bald eagles that thrive here year-round, building nests and raising young, so it is fairly common to see the mature birds (white head and tail) or immature eagles at any time of year. They come and go from favorite perches, but it is often an unexpected sighting that is the most thrilling, like when you are paddling down the river in July. Our location where the Lackawaxen River flows into the Delaware provides open water to attract additional eagles in January and February, many from as far away as Canada. More info is available from a link on our website to our neighbor, The Eagle Institute. With regard to fireplaces, both riverview guestrooms, the cottage, and the common sitting room all have gas fireplaces.

This historic building has been updated with your comfort and privacy in mind.Lackawaxen is on the Delaware River which is the border between the Pennsylvania Pocono Mountains and the NY Catskills Mountains. 20 minutes Northwest of Milford PA. From the George Washington Bridge, it's 100 miles or 2 hours. We are due north of Phila; it's a 2 1/2 hr drive.
Roebling Inn has two guestrooms with a gas fireplace and a view of the Delaware River. We may be the only B&B in Pennsylvania that regularly has bald eagles perched in our riverbank trees. Bring your camera.
Roebling Inn has a sitting room/library/game room with a fireplace, all just for our guests' enjoyment. The fun of rivers is that they are always changing. Depending on the water level, the Lackawaxen River is ideal for serious paddlers during a release from Lake Wallenpaupack. When the water is lower, it's great for trout fishing. It is also stocked with "monster trout", weighting 5-8 lbs each.
The Roebling Bridge was the forerunner to the Brooklyn Bridge and is the oldest suspension bridge in the United States! You can walk across it and visit the tollhouse museum (free).Riverview guestrooms and the cottage have fireplaces. We are the closest B&B to Ski Big Bear (5 miles) and guests receive 15% off ski lift tickets. In addition, birdwatchers love our location for viewing bald eagles in the wild. Visit The Eagle Institute (walking distance).
Wake up to the beauty of the river out your window, the aroma of coffee, the sound of birds. Start your day with a delicious breakfast. Life is good!
