My sister and I stayed at the Maxwell House. We really enjoyed the time we spent there. Twyla is such a super nice lady; always wanting to know if things were okay and could she get us anything; wonderful hostess. The breakfast is "to die for", she really puts alot into making sure the breakfast is a tastey one and boy is it!!!!!. Her lovely dog Princess even came to greet us. Being a dog lover myself I was pleased that she let us pet Princess and she let Princess give us greetings - Princess was very well behaved and listed to Twyla. I loved this old home - it was well kept and I enjoyed being there as did my sister. Our room was huge- and we loved it. The bath was across the hall but that was okay too. All in all it was a wonderful experience. My sister and I hope to go back soon. Jenny Powell - Jean Propst Morgantown, WV

What a pleasure to stay in this lovely B&B. The breakfast was scrumptous and the conversations with Twyla were very informative and entertaining. The only downside was the bed was a little hard but all in all a terrific stay and would visit again.

Hubby & I have been going here for at least 8yrs and we Love it. The Ms Elizabeth Rm is Spacious and Beautiful. Filled w/Items of the Period. We stay in this rm every time we come. The King Size bed is Warm n Cozy, plus a Large Bathroom with jacuzzi also a shower is very relaxing. Innkeepers are Down To Earth, Very Nice and Attentive to your needs. The room, breakfast and even coffee & snacks are offered here. Breakfast is over the top w/Great Food, Coffee, Juice or Tea - you'll never leave hungry. Ms Twyla is an Awesome Cook and sets a Beautiful Table with the help of her Husband Roger! Peaceful, relaxing, nice warm folks. We always love hearing the History of Mt. Airy and the stories! We look forward to coming back year after year to enjoy our Friendship with Twyla and Roger!

I think of Twyla and Roger as old friends, even though we have stayed at their B&B only two times; they are just such people. We were a litttle disappointed by the breakfast, however

My son and I recently finished a driving trip throughout the eastern US and, as big fans of the Andy Griffith Show, couldn't miss Mt. Airy. We found Maxwell House on the internet and booked a room. It was stunning, spotless, and with every element of hospitality you can imagine. We had more snacks than we knew what to do with! The owners were absolutely gracious and kind, and truly did whatever they could to make our stay more comfortable. The breakfast was the best I've had -- we would definitely stay here again if we find ourselves back in NC, and will definitely recommend it to anyone we know headed that way!

Not being a seasoned B&B traveler I'll admit to a measure of naïveté, but my gut tells me that Maxwell House is a treasure. Robust and comfortable with its age, the house sits in a neighborhood of classics. Mount Airy has embraced its role as “Mayberry” and the House is within an easy stroll of instant nostalgia. Our primary purpose for visiting was North Carolina's young wine country and many wineries are within an easy drive. Twyla Sickmiller proved to be a valuable resource for choosing which we would visit as well as being a gracious, eager and impeccable hostess. We stayed in Elizabeth's Room, ample and inviting in its Victorian elegance with a king-sized bed. The bath, too, was of sufficient size with a whirlpool tub for two. We were never disturbed and enjoyed the room and its amenities. The two-course breakfasts were tasty and sumptuous -- way more than we'd normally eat but far too special to ignore. Before striking out on our tour, Twyla provided us with directions to four wineries within an easy drive, packed some bottled water and trail mix and offered a coupon for dinner at a fifth. I'm told that many B&B regulars prefer their hosts to blend into the walls or be more like part of the furniture. Twyla knows that and can be, but it's not her nature and Maxwell House is better for it. She and husband Roger are a perfect team and they made our stay memorable. She's bright, funny, engaging and warm and loves to sit with the guests during breakfast and stoke conversation. My wife and I are already looking ahead at our schedules to determine when we can visit again. In the meantime, make Maxwell House your destination if you’re planning to visit Mayberry, want to taste the North Carolina wine country or you’re just looking to escape for a couple of days. But know this. You’re cheating yourself if you don’t take the time to visit with your hosts.

The Maxwell House B and B is so opulently Victorian, I feel like I've stepped back to "Granny's House". Twyla, the inn keeper, is the quintessential southern hostess, brimming with warm funny stories and helpful suggestions. The breakfast are decadent and delicious.

The entire house had vivacious character and was exquisitly decorated, with beds so comfortable that I had to ask for the brand name. I cherished the manner that made me feel like I was seemingly at home (but better). A pleasantly relaxed environment and the most genuinely hospitable and entertaining hosts that I have ever encountered. Breakfast was delectibly delicious, my mouth waters even now at the mere thought of it. I anxiously await my next visit and aspire to lengthen my stay. The absolute best B & B experience exists at Roger and Twyla's Maxwell House. Two thumbs way up!!

We planned a quick get away to the Maxwell House for some much needed rest and relaxtion--we got much more. Twyla is a wonderful hostess and is very knowledgable about the surrounding area. She recommended several vineyards to visit and provided background on them all. We were not familiar with them and I am certain would not have visited if Twyla had not suggested. We had a wonderful time at all three and we look forward to visiting the area again very soon.
