This place is outside of busy and noisy manhattan, so you enjoy from your visit in a cosy, homely athmosphere, while still being in the "Big Apple". Miriam Ellis is a wonderful personality, and cooks everyday a wonderful breakfast! Pay attention : Only book this B&B when you have the time, to relax, have a good breakfast, and have the time to take the ferry to Manhattan. Everything was clean, and the rooms were nicely decorated. The bathroom was ok, but could do with a renovation. Overall : really great value for your money, and a very warm thanks to Mrs Ellis!!

Our recent visit to Hartshorne House was most delightful and relaxing. Ms. Ellis was a gracious hostess, serving an amazing breakfast with all the trimmings. The residence was as if we were staying at our own grandmother's house. The rooms were comfortable and quiet. Transportation to NYC was easy. The bus to the ferry was literally at the front door and the bus ride to the ferry took less than 5 minutes.

Of all the sights we saw in our whirlwind 11 day tour of New York City, Hartshorne House is the highlight. Rising at dawn, we were always greeted with a pot of hot coffee to enjoy on the front porch, then a beautiful and very scrumptuous breakfast to sustain us for the sightseeing we would do for the day. Not to be forgotten is the trip into the city. Each way, the ferry passes the Statue of Liberty. New York City is a treat that will last a lifetime. We arose before dawn and arrived back long after dark. We saw as much as we could see and enjoyed every moment. The whole trip would not have been as magical or as memorable had we not stayed at Hartshorne House. Of all the experiences of our stay, Ms. Ellis warmth and hospitality and the feeling of coming home each night as we walked up the drive are by far the best of the entire trip.

Miriam Ellis is a delight, and an excellent cook. Breakfast was a feast I would only expect at a three star hotel in New York City. She even had a copy of the morning paper next to my table. The bed was the best by far I've had at any B&B, with new linens; and there was a bowl of fresh fruit on the desk top.

I have spent May 2007 at Hartshorne House for working on my book. Mrs. Ellis supported me with coffee, food and overwhelming friendliness. I had incredible 4 weeks there, feeling more and more being at home. It's a quiet, romantic house, very clean and the breakfast and little extras are fantastic. Thank you, Mrs. Ellis

Our stay at the Hartshorne House was wonderful, my husband and I felt we were visiting family and were very comfortable with our gracious hostess Ms. Ellis. There were fresh flowers in our very Victorian bedroom with a comfortable bed and windows at every angle and views of big lush trees. The Harshorne House is atop a hill and the view was so pretty. Our hostess, offered sitting rooms in her home to relax and read or watch television. The ferry was so close either by bus or Taxi. Our first morning the wonderful aroma of coffee woke me... and it is truly the best coffee I have ever had! sorry Starbucks, Hartshorne House serves the best coffee! The granola was exceptional, fresh applesause and peaches as well as the most yummy baked bread with home made jams! What I will remember most is the warm welcoming smile of our hostess and her equally warm welcoming home and the lovely aroma of Ms. Ellis's spices coming from her kitchen, OH and the rich creamy homemade scented bath soaps too! We will certainly return! Thank you Miriam! Regards Angelina & Luiz Machado

Comfortable bed in a clean room with fresh flowers and a fireplace. The innkeeper, Miriam, prepared wonderful breakfasts! Fresh fruit (strawberries to die for), coffee, home-made granola, croissants and scones as well as bacon and eggs all served on beautiful china and with the family sterling.
