My recent stay at the Foothill House was outstanding.... Before choosing this B & B, I read all the other reviews, as you are doing, and decided to stay based on what I had read. From the moment I walked through the door of my room I knew I had made the right decision....Charm, Charm, Charm, privacy, quiet, and picturesque. The hostess and innkeeper, Darla, was gracious and accomodating, always available to answer a question, provide a resource, or suggest a special local experience to make your stay memorable. The setting was serence, with a waterfall, pond, lots of fountains, and plenty of outdoor private sitting/relaxing space. You have the choice of having the company of other guests, or just having privacy. It was the perfect balance and made you feel you had the whole guesthouse to yourself. I can't wait to visit again and highly recommend it!

Second time in six years that my husband and I have stayed at Foothill house. What a fabulous B&B! This was our first time staying in the Quail's Roost and definitely will not be our last. Separate from the main house, and above the entire property, the Quail's Roost is a romantic getaway with its own private patio and outside waterfall. The waterfall is the main focus of the bathroom which includes a dual sided fireplace, two person spa tub and separate shower. The bedroom is spacious and well appointed, hardwood floors compliment the warm decor, vaulted ceilings and two sitting areas for reading or sitting by the fire. A breakfast area (near your own kitchen) was where we were served top notch breakfasts every morning. The room also has a walk-in closet with a washer and dryer. Every day we had a lovely crock full of homemade cookies and cordials of sherry by our bedside for a nice night cap. Evenings were spent in the main house in the family room chatting with the other guests while eating lovely appetizers and sipping local wines. Darla the innkeeper was knowledgeable of the area and gave us wonderful recommendations for wine tours, restaurants and masseurs. I cannot recommend Foothill House enough and will definitely not wait so long to return to this lovely place.

The Foothill House is one of those exclusive little places where you have extreme privacy and within a short drive you have all of the Wine Country. You will not find a greater Inn Keeper than Darla. She greets you as if you have been a close friend the first time and your status never changes. This is the ideal place to get away for a few days, retreat for a second honeymoon or meet a few new friends you will keep for years. Darla has a social hour where guests are treated to a light snack and several local wines to taste. Breakfast is a gourmet delight. Every meal is prepared with such elegant taste and Darla will make every effort to meet any dietary nees you may have. We stayed at the Foothill House to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary and were absolutely treated to a first class experience by our host, Darla. The facility is well kept, on beautiful acreage and conveniently located to many features and attractions in Napa Valley and beyond. Darla couldn't have been more gracious and helpful in providing excellent advice and guidance as to what wineries and attractions we might want to visit. She also provided us with discount coupons for dining, attractions and wine touring/ tasting, which we gratefully accepted and used. She made sure we were provisioned with nightly cookies, sherry and a cooler with water as we started our day. She even sent us on our way home with a package of her cookies! A very thoughtful touch. The 'Quail Roost' cottage accommodation was fabulous- private (sitting alone at the top of a hill on their property), quite spacious (easily 1400 sq. ft.) comfortable, homey and with excellent amenities including a jacuzzi tub with private atrium overlooking a waterfall (wow!), a modern kitchenette and wet bar with teas, coffee and a coffeemaker and a wonderful fireplace hearth to relax in front of after a busy day. Her meals were excellent, served in our room and she was happy to accommodate our special dietary needs. Comfy bathrobes and slippers were provided for lounging as well. Darla sincerely treats you as family when you are her guest. Be assured we will be coming back to Foothill House and recommending her establishment to all our friends. We just recently returned from our stay in Calistoga at the Foothill House. We found the Foothill House on Tripadvisor.com and chose it because of all the positive reviews. The reviews were correct. Everything about our stay was first class. From the time we arrived to the time we left Darla made sure that we were pampered. Every morning there was breakfast at our patio. Every afternoon there was wine and snacks in the sunroom where we could meet other guests and get some tips from Darla about where to go for the best deals. Every evening there were delicious cookies waiting for us in our room. The room was spacious, quiet and well equipped with a two person jacuzzi. We can't speak highly enough about the Foothill House and the attentiveness of Darla. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and her company and would definitely choose the Foothill House again. This was one of the best B&B stays we have ever visited (and we stay at B&B's almost exclusively). Darla, the owner, was a fountain of knowledge and recommendations, steering us to the best "hidden gems" in the Napa and Sonoma Valleys. The breakfasts were gourmet. The complimentary evening wine & hors d'oeuvres a treat at the end of the day. We stayed in the "Quails Roost", which should not be missed if you can get it - a large, separate and private building/suite with wonderful, thoughtful details (including a glass wall shower with waterfall just outside). This is a great base for exploring both valleys - far enough north to be away from the built-up areas but easy access to everything. Highly recommended.

My husband Rich and I were in Calistoga for our niece's wedding in May. We looked on-line for a place to say and decided to stay at the Foothill House Bed & Breakfast. What a wonderful surprise we had when we checked in. We stayed in the Lupine Suite which was just lovely. All the amenities you could wish for at no extra charge. Homemade cookies every night, soft robe and slippers, bedside sherry every evening, breakfast in your room every morning, or if you prefer in the dining room of the Inn. We preferred to have breakfast in the dining room so we could meet the other guests staying at the Inn and as well as chat with Darla, the Innkeeper. Darla was a resource of information. It was just so relaxing and fun and Darla gave us great suggestions on which wineries we should visit and coupons to discount the cost of some of the wineries. All of the guests that we met were previous guests who come back every year and that is a true testament to the Foothill House Bed & Breakfast. We couldn't have picked a more delightful, wonderful, warm place to stay. If you are ever in Calistoga, CA and looking for a wonderful experience our recommendation would be to stay at the Foothill House Bed & Breakfast. Without a doubt this is a winner. We recently stayed at the Foothill House B&B and had an enchanted time in the Napa Valley area. Our room in this beautiful turn-of-the century house was beautifully decorated and cozy and was one of the most spacious rooms I've ever stayed (being from Europe, rooms are very small here). Having a jacuzzi in our room was also a plus, since it's the perfect way to relax after a day of wine tasting and delicious food in Calistoga. I couldn't have imagined a better place to stay, I totally recommend it for every age and taste. We have stayed at several Bed and Breakfasts over the last few years, and we have had great times at all of them; however, Darla, from the Foothill House in Calistoga, brought our travel experience to a whole new level. First, the accommodations were phenomenal. Second, the hospitality we received was no less than perfect. We felt like we stayed at our best friend's house. We woke up to breakfast in bed every day; let me say the meals were incredible. We were dazzled with the most wonder French toast, Mexican quiche omelet, and some invigorating Amish oatmeal. To add to the atmosphere, Darla served us wonderful wine and appetizers everyday in her incredible Sunroom at 5:00 p.m. Although we had sipped on wine all day, we looked forward to the conversation in the Sunroom with all the other guests. We compared our stories, and shared our travels with all our new found friends. Darla went so far as to recommend several wonderful food and recreational establishments, and also provided us with significant discounts to each and every one of them. Each one of these places well exceeded our expectations, and they all new Darla and love how she always takes care of her guests. Sadly we had to leave, but before we did, we exchanged hugs and kisses with Darla and some of the guests. It felt like we were leaving a family reunion. Some of our friends have already booked their return, a wedding reception, and we too are coming back for that as well. This is truly a wonderful place; we recommend it to all who love great wine, fabulous food, and fantastic friendship. This inn is very cozy and inviting. It is a bit older and full of charm everywhere. We really enjoyed the delicious breakfast and especially that it was delivered to our room each morning without us having to even leave or get out of our pajamas yet! There was a wonderful fireplace and jacuzzi tub and our room was in a secluded corner. The innkeeper Darla was very helpful with our planning and in making sure we had everything we needed. There a few keys things about this place that make it a very attractive to place to stay: 1. - The innkeeper; Darla is very attentive and has great ideas about where to go and what to see. She also really does care. On our final nite, we decided to "stay in" to eat the massive amount of leftovers we had acquired while ordering too much food at great restaurants; steak and spinich from the Greystone at the CIA, chicken from the Flatiron Grill and half of a great burger from Taylor's Automatic Refresher were all nestled in our room's fridge alongside great cappicola, brie and other goodies. I gathered them up and took some to the common room to heat up. Darla spied me, and quickly made sure I had plates and silverware, offered me french bread to supplement the feast, and tried to give me more wine. She is the best! 2. - Location; while making the left turn into the place can be hairy early in the morning, (due to the high speed southbound traffic trying to get to work in the vineyards on time), the spot is perfect for exploring both Sonoma and Napa Valley wineries and shopping. 3. - Ambiance; the most important feature for us, as it is very laid back and easy - no rushing around, very quiet, lots of water features and full mature landscaping (even in mid-winter!) make this place great at disconnecting from the outside world. Just hanging out and reading is a very attractive option here.

Darla the innkeeper was wonderful. She made us feel part of a community with her evening reception with the other guests, introduced us all and shared lovely anecdotes about being an innkeeper. The room exceeded our expectations, The Lucine room was decorated in lovely pale blues and greens. Wood burning stove, pull out twin couch, movies, our own private patio with a cute table set and we could hear the water feature in the back patio up the back side of the property. The breakfast delivered exactly as requested with 1 decaf & 1 regular! And the food was incredible! Upon checkout we asked if we could view the other 3 units to see where we would be staying next time. The upper unit has a full kitchen, the jacuzzi bathtub backs up to a view of the waterfall down the size of the hill, BREATH taking! Darla was wonderful and we were so spoiled, we just cannot see going back to Calistoga and NOT staying with her on our next getaway!

This B & B is truly Heaven on Earth and Darla is its little Angel! This has got to be one of the most romantic places we have ever been! We stayed in the Quail's Roost and it is like a private little love nest, complete with double paned fireplace, canopy bed, waterfall and jacuzzi for 2. Every little detail, down to the cookies and liqour! The owner, Darla, is so sweet and even bought my husband a birthday cake!! I just cannot recommend this place highly enough!

The room we had at the Foothill House was very large and nicely appointed. There was a whirlpool tub for two and a separate shower and toilet in a separate room. There were two sinks, a wood stove, TV with plenty of DVDs and VHS tapes to choose from, and plenty of space in the room to relax. We didn't get to enjoy the outside private patio because it was a little too cold. Darla served breakfast each morning in our room at the cozy table. But this wasn't even the best part! The hospitality at the B&B was outstanding. Darla had wine and appetizers each night from 5-6pm and we enjoyed her company and the company of the other guests tremendously. We would not miss it! Also, the appetizers were delicious, as were the homemade cookies provided in our room and the sherry and glasses provided on our bedside table. The breakfasts were delicious if not a bit rich. We had a lot of special requests and inquiries and Darla was very accommodating and provided us with all of the information and resources we needed. This included providing rope for us to tie the trunk down on our car (we were transporting a tandem bike) and giving us a ride into Calistoga when we needed one. We had a fabulous stay with Darla and are looking forward to our next visit.

We stayed at Foothill House during our honeymoon in Nov. As experienced travelers we have stayed at hotels that range widely in quality and service and have visited two other B&Bs. We are impressed by the friendly and flexible service exhibited by Darla, the property's owner and operator, and her B&B's amenities. We recommend the Foothill House and the town of Calistoga as a great home base for exploring Northern California's Wine Country. Darla took care of us. We heard a squirrel or something scratching around our room during the first night. Not a big deal, it is a woodsy neighborhood after all. After mentioning it to Darla the next morning, she upgraded us to her best room (the Quail's Roost cottage) at no extra cost for the two nights it was available. We had not "complained" and would have been satisfied to stay in the Lupine Suite. In fact, we returned to the Lupine Suite for our last night and were not disturbed. Darla helped us plan some of our outings. She pointed us to the local wineries that offer free tastings, gave us discount coupons for a few local restaurants. She offered us coolers in which to carry our water during our day trips. Her breakfasts are excellent and filling (love that french toast souffle!). The complimentary cookies and sherry that awaited us in our room were tasty. We went to one of Darla's evening "happy hours" where we enjoyed wine, hors d'oeuvres, and conversation with Darla and other guests. The two rooms we experienced were comfortable and clean. We particularly enjoyed the Quail's Roost. As a self-contained cottage with a kitchen, washer and dryer, private patio, view of a nice, artificial waterfall from the jacuzzi tub and walk-in shower, and gas fireplace conveniently operated with a timer switch -- it is a definite upgrade. The Lupine Suite, where we stayed on our first and last nights, was in the original farmhouse portion of the property. It was certainly cozy and adequate for our purposes.

We really enjoyed our 4-night stay at the Foothill House. Darla Anderson is a very gracious host who works hard to make sure that her guests enjoy their stay. We were traveling with three other couples who always met for wine and appetizers from 5:00pm-6:00 pm, before going out for a late dinner. This was a nice way to relax after a busy day of driving around Napa Valley. When we returned to our rooms at night there was always a small bottle filled with sherry awaiting us. More important than that was the amazing Chocolate Chip Cookies that were baked fresh every day sitting on our bed in a small pottery crock. I am now in withdrawal because no one is leaving them on my bed at home. But the good thing is that Darla shares her recipes and so I'm going to bake up a batch for the Christmas holidays. Breakfasts were yummy too. Most often, we were served breakfast casseroles served in individual soufflé dishes for a lovely presentation. Darla will cater to any food needs or preferences. Andi

Absolutely wonderful place, especially if you like privacy and want to get away from traffic and congestion. Very private and peaceful wooded area. Can't say enough good things about the cleanliness, the service and ambiance of the Foothill House. We stayed in the Quail's Roost and it was warm and relaxing with lots of charm. The grounds were lovely and the Quail's Roost was huge and absolutely spotless. Darla provided many helpful tips and extras. She delivered delicious breakfasts to the room, entertained at the Happy Hour gatherings each evening with wine tastings, food and friendliness. The yummy homemade cookies and Sherry at our bedside was a lovely treat. She gave us maps with directions, lots of brochures and helpful info about the area and it's amenities. Darla even provided us with an ice pack and small cooler with bottles of water for touring. She is a terrific hostess and proprietor. Can't wait to go back.

We stayed in two rooms the Redwood Room and the Quails Roost. Both were very nice and clean. Breakfast was fantastic and the afternoon wine and appetizers were great too. Darla's advice really helped us make the most of our trip to the wine country. Darla is an excellent hostess. She is there when you need her and gives you as much privacy as you want. The Quails Roost was a bit more secluded and just awesome. I'd definitely recommend the Foothill House to anyone touring the wine country.

I thought the room would be more updated than it was, that everything would actually work in the room, and I thought the service would be better. The room was clean, but the linens were threadbare, and the fixtures were dated. When I return to the area, I will not be staying here again.

We stayed in the Evergreen Suite July 29-31, 2008. The room is much larger and nicer than it appears in the picture on the website. Darla's personal service is extraordinary; sumptuous breakfasts brought to your room; wine and snacks in the afternoon; and a valuable source of information about wineries, restaurants, and local sites. Although the room is close to Highway 29, the soundproofing is good and two water fountains with trickling water serve as a buffer to noise from the highway. We have stayed at a lot of bed and breakfasts and this one is in our top 5.

We recently stayed 3 nights at the Foothill House Inn and we had a magnificent time. The inn was very charming and the room we stayed in (The Redwoods) was superb. Each morning we were greeted by a magnificent breakfast from our innkeeper Darla (wait until you taste her cookies as well!). Her recipies are to die for! The inn was so peaceful and relaxing. This was our first B&B experience. Our family booked both the Quail's Roost cottage and the Lupine Suite for a long weekend visit for a family wedding in Napa Valley. Both were stocked with bottled water, soft drinks and freshly baked cookies to greet us, and along with Darla's warm welcome, including wine and hors d' oeuvres, we instantly were glad we were at Foothill House vs. Meadowood with the rest of the family!
