I spent two days at JPH a few days before Christmas. I was by myself, but I never felt 'alone'. John was there to greet me each morning, and I felt like the breakfast he served was made especially for me... :) The several guests I met there were delightful & interesting. It stormed heavily the last evening of my stay, but I could see the main house from my room's bay window -- it's Christmas lights glittering. My son and his girlfriend discovered JPH a couple of years ago, and suggested that we all get together there for a special occasion; our son proposed to his girlfriend of 3 years at Hearst Castle! John's stuffed french toast gave us a hearty good start to this memorable day, and the egg souffle the following morning was amazing! (Perhaps John will attempt my red velvet cheesecake recipe for future guests!) The rooms were cozy and with the fireplace burning, you hardly knew it was raining outside. John was entertaining and from the beginning of our stay, made us feel like old friends reconnecting. This is truly an outstanding venue in which to wind down, meet new people, enjoy good food, and in our case, make a memorable family event that much more special. Our stay at the JPH was truly one of a kind. Their attention to details are impressive....the cute teddy bears all over the place...the killer cookies before bedtime...wine and cheese at the fireplace....nice selection of music by the CD player....and the friendliness and hospitality of the host, John was very sincere and heart-warming...(not to mention his superb breakfast preparation skills)...hmmmmmmmm ...I can still remember how that chili corn souffle tasted like...my husband and I will definitely be back just as most of their guests are. We stayed at the J Patrick House during our slow drive to my dad's house in Scotts Valley (Santa Cruz). Enjoyed the innkeeper's hospitality and warmth, as well as the cozy room with a fireplace. Their close proximity to wine tasting in Paso Robles and one of my favorite beach towns of Cayucos is a plus. We would stay here again if we visit the Central Coast.

We loved it. My wife and I went for our birthdays, and J Patrick House did not disappoint. We stayed in the Clare room. A little more money, but at night, you can use the entire house where you can relax in the living room, drink some wine, and peacefully enjoy one another's company. Only one complaint. I HATE soft, mushy pillows. Oh, and if you have AT&T, your cell phone won't work. Normally, this would be welcome, but when you have left your kids at home, you kind of want to be gotten ahold of in case of emergency.

We stayed in one of the rooms in the back bldg. It was just delightful. The homemade cookies in the late evening and coffee in the morning in our sitting room was wonderful. The wine and hors d'oeuvres in the late afternoon in the main house were very good and it was fun talking with the other guests. The breakfasts were delicious.

We've been to JPH years ago for Valentine's day, and returned 5 years later for our anniversary. First time we stayed at the Kilkenny room, this time we chose the Donegal room. Spacious, charming, romantic, clean, stylish, gas/wood burning fireplace in the room, full bathroom. John is a great host and creates wonderful breakfast masterpieces. The first night innkeeper Lori recommended and made dinner reservations for us, the second night John did so also. The JPH innkeepers are well respected, so when they call to make reservations, you get a great table. It's the little things that make a big difference. The cute chocolate mint on the night stand, the "killer" cookies downstairs (with milk), the sound of the water fountain, the relaxing music CD player in the room, the room diary journal that has entries from thousands of people spanning over a decade, the Wine and Cheese hour in the evening is nice, meet people from various places, (and if you brought your laptop... the unadvertised linksys wireless open access internet access). In the past we've stayed one night, now we know that 2 nights are ideal to slow down and enjoy Cambria. John and his staff work hard behind the scenes to make your stay relaxing, peaceful and enjoyable. This is a TRUE Bed and Breakfast. Highly recommend you make your reservations in advance, and don't forget to also rsvp for Hearst castle, and see the elephant seals at the beach.

We were looking for a place to stay for our 38th anniversary, that would be peaceful and relaxing after a very busy year. The J. Patrick House is just the place. The inn is charming, well maintained and woodsy. The breakfast was delicious and different each day, something we looked forward to each morning. The owners and staff were the best. Friendly, kind and knowledgable - they made us feel right at home the moment we arrived. My wife and I received a gift card as a wedding gift from some close friends for a weekend stay at the J Patrick House. What a wonderful gift! Everything was great from the reception we received from John to the service at breakfast, not to mention the wine and cheese which gave us the opportunity to get to know the other guests. Most guests are housed in the carriage house away from the road, affording privacy. The rooms are cozy and the fireplaces a nice touch. We chose to make a brief trip along the central California coast to celebrate our 45th anniversary, and, based on their website and a few reviews, made a reservation at the J. Patrick House because it was a log cabin in a charming town we had never seen. The stay fulfilled our every expectation, mainly because of the attention to the smallest detail which might make a guest more comfortable in a private home. The hostess, Laurie, provided helpful information, wine and cheese in the evening, and served a beautiful breakfast prepared by Maria the next morning: excellent homemade granola, fresh fruit, yogurt, juice, good coffee, omelet with cheese and chilis, and hot scones. This was served in a cheerful breakfast room with a view of a flower filled garden and accompanied by conversation with fellow guests we had met and enjoyed the evening before. We left with a gift bag of chocolates and a note wishing us a happy anniversary, thinking that we could not have had a nicer experience.

Here is a place that actually looks like it does on their website, and the overall experience is exactly as described on their website. Wine tasting at 5pm, a great chance to chat with your fellow guests. With there being less than 10 rooms it always remains a very intimate affair and you quickly find yourself amongst a new group of friends that you would never have met if you had all stayed in a "normal" hotel. Breakfast is decadent and different fayre is prepared fresh for you every morning. It was sheer hell waving goodbye, turning back onto the freeway and having to turn our cell phones on again !

We had a long day, but after a nice dinner at a local restaurant, were very pleased to turn into our extremely comfortable king-sized bed. There is too much for me to say about J. Patrick House so i will try to narrow it down. I have been to J. Patrick twice 1) my 1st anniversary and 2)Family x-mas get away. I have also sent 2 other couples for one for a wedding gift and the other for there 5oth wedding(they re-newed there vows). No one has EVER been disappointed. J. Patrick house has great service, food, and rooms. There cookies are the best ever but the one think i love best are the diarys. In each room there are diarys to read not only can you get info of great places to eat but the stories are from the heart. One of these day im going to stay in the main house but we have to much fun enjoy each of the room. The staff is more than attentive to your needs, and the homemade granola is outstanding. Oh i need to go back and never leave. Please stay at J. Patrick house you will not be disappointed in anything they have.

We love the fireplace in the bedroom along with their homemade cookies to top off evening. The bed was so delightful, had a good night sleep. Service is always great,treat you like friends. The wine and goodies and sharing your day with other guests was fun. Breakfast is fit for a king. We liked the home made granola so much we bought two bags and savor every bite ,along with the good memories.

This is a very nice esablishment with very, very small rooms. The breakfasts were outstanding, real food, hot, prepared to order and served to the table. The buildings and grounds are very nice. But the rooms are very small. We went for 4 nights on our honeymoon and the only space to relax is on the bed. The bathroom is adequate, but again, shallow tub and small, nothing to write home about. If you like to relax in a home away from home, this is not the place. If you only want to sleep in the room this is the place.

Booked on the basis of on line reviews. Wonderful experience. Beautiful rooms and grounds. Nice touches included milk & fresh baked cookies before bedtime as well as a wine and cheese get together each evening in the main house where you have the opportunity to meet your fellow travelers. Without exception, I must say that our companions (2 other couples) as well as the other couples in residence thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Rooms were well appointed, clean and comfortable. John (our host) was most engaging and prepared an amazing breakfast. Great value. If you are traveling in the San Simeon, Cambria area, don't miss this place!

Our first experience with a B & B was the Rose Hill Manor in the hillcountry of TX. It was an outstanding place to stay, and hence, the place we compare to every other B & B we stay in. Although, the view at Rose Hill Manor is hard to beat, the J Patrick Inn holds its own in comparison to it. The room was beautiful and had extra touches such as scented shower soap, magazines and books to read, very comfortable pillows, and CD's that played relaxing music. A fire place instead of a TV was an added bonus...much more relaxing. We stayed in the Kilkenny room, and each window had a view of trees (no parking lot, street, etc.) The wine, served each day with crackers and assorted spreads, was a good quality one, and the inch thick homemade chocolate chip cookies laid out each evening were so delicious. We stayed two nights, and each morning we were delighted with the fantastic breadfast served to us. The first morning we were treated to the Inn's homemade granola and yogurt served on fresh fruit and the stuffed french toast they are famous for. Yummy! The second morning, the entree was a vegetable strata and scones, along with the fruit/yogurt/granola combo. Just as yummy! John (a retired fireman) did the cooking and serving, and provided amusing and friendly conversation each morning. We will definitely stay at this B & B again if we are ever in the area.

We enjoyed the decor, delicious and filling breakfast, chocolate chip cookies at bedtime, cozy garden area, and friendly, helpful staff. The rooms were very clean but the walls were thin. There are a lot of things to do in the Cambria and San Simeon area. Beautiful sunsets!

We visited this B&B this weekend and enjoyed our stay very much. The bed was so comfortable and the fireplace was very romantic. We stayed in the Clare and in the evening we had the living room to ourselves. This was my husbands first time staying in a B&B, I was unsure if he would like it but he loved it. His only complaint was not having a TV but I showed him there are other things we could do to enjoy our time together. I won him over. I would definitely recommend a stay at the j patrick house to anyone who wants a romantic and satisfying experience.

We visited the J Patrick House as a romantic weekend getaway (we have a 2 year old at home) and our stay was PERFECT! Not the standard over-decorated, stuffy B&B. Our room in the back house was very comfortable with full bath. We loved the fireplace; ended up using all the wood provided! Evening wine and appetizers gave us a chance to chat with others and get opinions about the restaurants on town. The breakfast was very good and the grounds beautiful.

We stayed for only one night as this was our first trip to California and we wanted to visit many places on the Pacific coast. We will definitely be back! The wine and appetizer hour gave us a chance to meet the other guests and find out about the area. It is in a great location, easy to reach the Cambria shopping area and Hearst Castle. We were given a great recommendation for dinner (Madeline's was outstanding for food and service). We very much enjoyed the cookies and milk at bedtime and the breakfast was absolutely delicioous. I have stayed at 5 star resorts that couldn't make french toast half as good as this and the homemade granola was awesome. The room was outstanding and we even used the fireplace to take the chill off the evening. I can't think of anything that wasn't top notch. This is not your average B&B.

The breakfast is FANTASTIC. They have their homemade granola and raisins- the freshest raisins I ever had. I loved the fresh fruit and the breakfast they prepared. The pumpkin bread was AWESOME. The people working there were very nice and genuine. The entire town of Cambria was filled with nice people! Cambria was a cute town to visit, and all the cool areas were so close by to visit such as Hearst Castle, SLO, & Morrow Bay. There are great restaurants to check out, good beaches to walk along or surf at. Its a GREAT place to relax, whether with friends or romantic reasons.

We had a group of 6, and could not have felt more welcome at the J Patrick House. Because 2 of us stayed in the Clare, we were able to spend the evening in the main house, which was a treat. The JPatrick House experience was great! The rooms were clean and had there own bathrooms. The breakfast was incredibly delicious. And the cookies were awesome. The area and the small town of Cambria is beautiful. And the owners really wanted to get to know their guests personally. It was the perfect weekend vacation and getaway. This was our first time staying at a B&B. We were a little apprehensive but were extremely happy with the experience. From the first time we walked thru the door we were greeted by Lori and the wiff of homemade granola coming out of the oven. It made us feel so warm and invited. Lori is such a kind and welcoming person. She goes out of her way to make sure everything is perfect. We really enjoyed the wine and appetizers and conversation with the fellow guests. If you are any where near Cambria you just have to stay at The J Patrick House. Quality, friendliness and charm await you. One of the very best 'B&B's' we've stayed in and we have stayed in some outstanding places before. Everywhere you will find attention to detail and loving care and it felt like home with excellent cookies left in the evening and piping hot coffee available from 7 in the morning. This is a wonderful B&B. Alissa, Yolanda and John all made us feel very welcome (didn't get to meet Ann!). The bed was very comfortable, the room was pleasant and the fireplace got a workout. My two sisters and I spent two mid-week nights at JPatrick House. The daytime was devoted to Hearst Castle but evenings were spent in front of the fireplace in one of our cosy rooms trying to organize our old family photograhps and memorabilia. It was a perfect place for a get together and sharing. The other guests were delightful and we all enjoyed our wine and cheese gatherings. All the staff contributed to our feeling of really being welcome.

We really enjoyed our stay in the JPH in August. We liked the hospitality from the first moment, when we were invited for a glass of wine although we arrived late. Our room was beautiful and cozy and we loved the fireplace. Just as we did the breakfast - and the chocolate cookies! So we would love to spend another night there someday!

My husband and I enjoyed another lovely, peaceful, stressless visit at the JPH for our 27th wedding anniversary from 8/15-8/18. I believe this was our 5th visit to the JPH and every visit is as good as the last if not better. The JPH was the first B & B we ever visited and it will be the only one we will stay at for years to come. We really have no desire to stay at any other B & B. We absolutely love the owners/innkeepers, John & Ann and their staff; we feel like we've known them forever. They are such wonderful hosts and always make you feel welcome. We always enjoy the homemade breakfasts, so filling and yummy! My favorite is the Banana Stuffed French Toast which is usually served every Sunday. My husband always looks forward the delicious homemade Chocolate Chip cookies and milk every evening before bedtime, cookies and milk are his favorite. We love everything about the JPH, the rooms, scenery, the town and there are so many good places to eat. We always make reservations at the Sow's Ear for our anniversary dinner and we have never been disappointed! If you have never stayed at a B & B, you have to try the J. Patrick House; I'm sure you'll want to visit again and again.
