Kathie and Jess provide a warm, inviting experience at the Farmers Guest House. They are knowledgeable about what Galena and the surrounding area have to offer visitors. The rooms are very comfortable with large, yet cozy beds. The breakfasts are absolutely delicious, but they are very accommodating to personal preferences or dietary needs. At the Farmers Guest House, it is the attention to details that made this such a warm, relaxing experience. My only frustration was that the outdoor hot tub had a leak in it so we couldn't enjoy that as part of our getaway. This was our first B & B experience, but it won't be our last. The room was great, roomy, homey, comfortable. The breakfasts were delicious and filling. But the best part was the people. The owners, Kathie and Jeff, are perfects hosts. They treat you like family. Imagine warm chocolate cookies straight from the oven, just because we happened to be there. Other people there, Carol and Charles, were very personable also, and happy to make sure we had our needs met. We enjoyed the company of the other guests at the inn who shared their favorite sites and rerstaurants as well. We even shared a dinner out one evening with some of the other guests. My husband and I desparately needed to get away from the stress of everyday life and had heard from friends that Galena was great. I spent weeks of researching bed and breakfasts in the area and even called to speak with Kathy. It was definitely worth my time and effort because we such a great time that we extended our stay. We stayed in the Annie Lloyd's cottage which gave us a great amount of privacy yet we still could meet new people and sample Jess' breakfast delight of the day. The bed was wonderfully soft, the in-suite fireplace cozy, the in-suite whirlpool was relaxing and the "in-room" couples massages were phenomenal and economical. We stayed at the Farmers Guest House in Galena, Illinois for four nights in early April, 2009 in the Pete and Eleanor's Room. The Pete and Eleanor's Room is a two room suite right next to the dining room. It has a whirlpool tub and king size bed in the main room and a pullout queen size bed and fireplace in the other room. Each room had a TV and DVD player. Our kids used the pullout bed, which had a thick, queen-sized mattress with a pillow top that was as comfortable as any mattress on a regular bed. The entire inn was tastefully decorated with the most interesting items beautifully arranged in a pleasing manner. It had a rustic, cozy atmosphere to match the feel of the town. The inn had plenty of room to visit with other guests, or to hide and read a book in one of the sitting rooms. When we arrived, Kathie and Jess welcomed us like family. Throughout our stay, they seemingly anticipated our every need. They were very knowledgeable about the area and had brochures for all the highlights. The cookie jars were stocked, and the refrigerator had sodas and bottled water at all hours. Every evening at 6:00 they served wine and cheese with crackers - a pure delight! The breakfasts were sumptuous - we were so well fed that we never ate lunch throughout our stay (not even the kids). When it was time to go, we felt like we were leaving friends in Kathie and Jess, who were hospitable and kind without ever intruding. They made our stay a pure pleasure. Galena was to be a one-time trip for us, but now we'd like to go back just to stay at the Farmers Guest House. We've also recommended Farmers Guest House to all of our friends. It definitely exceeded all of our expectations.

Farmers' Guest House is the cutest B&B I've ever visited. The proprietors Jess & Kathie are lovely and they've created a beautiful spot relaxation and romance. We were greeted with a wine and cheese happy hour and then walked to the nearby downtown for a delicious dinner at 11th and Main. The next day we went snowboarding and then recovered with a soak in the jacuzzi tub and an in-room couples massage. It was heavenly. What else can I say? The Camelot Suite was absolutely wonderful. The decor is beautiful and my wife LOVED the miniature shoe collection.....very romantic touch. The front parlor adds a nice touch and the dressing table is gorgeous and also useful. The bath is compact yet very sufficient and the spacious whirlpool is very comfortable for two. Lastly, the bed is one of a kind; a wrought steel sleigh bed that is magnificent with an unbelievably comfortable mattress. Four windows in the main bedroom and two more in the parlor let plenty of natural light in, yet the custom wood blinds adjust for privacy too. And this is just the Camelot Suite! The rest of the B&B is tastefully decorated consistent with the period the structure was built. All the common spaces are very inviting and they just beg to be used. Several are stocked with goodies which we found to be a real treat. Jess and Kathie are very attentive hosts and were quick to help with anything we needed. The 6:00 pm wine and cheese tasting was fun and gave us an opportunity to learn some of the B&B's history from Kathie. The breakfast was wonderful and plentiful; no going hungry at the Farmers Guest House. My only regret was that we could not stay longer! If you want to pamper and impress that special someone in your life with a quiet, romantic, and intimate getaway to a small town richly steeped in history, you cannot go wrong staying here. Our stay at the Farmer's Guest House was extraordinary! Galena is such a beautiful and historic town there is always a new treasure to find. The Annie Lloyd Cottage is a gem on top of the hill located behind the Guest House. Two levels with a fireplace, an in door whirlpool and outdoor hot tub, I only regret I didn't plan to stay in the room longer. Galena is pretty anytime of the year but with snow and decorations the town is truly a Winter Wonderland. We were fortunate to have visited during the Night of Luminaria with 5,000 candles lining the sidewalks, river banks, bridges and parks. Proprietors Jess and Kathy saw to our every needs, served wonderful breakfasts and afternoon treats, and served double duty as volunteers to light the candles. Incredible decorations and amazing visual displays festoon the Guest House. You could spend hours just taking it all in. While Christmastime at the Farmer's Guest House has all the magic of a storybook holiday, I can't wait to go back in the summer or fall and spend more time to enjoy the peaceful surroundings and wonderful accomodations.

My wife and I absolutely loved our stay at the Farmers' Guest House! We stayed in Annie Lloyd's cottage for two nights and then moved to the Pete and Eleanor Suite due to availability of the room. Both rooms were absolutely amazing. They were very well decorated and well-kept. The beds were very comfortable. The keepers of the B&B, Jess and Kathie, were incredible. They helped us to find great restaraunts in the area and recommended spots for other activities. We wanted to do some cross country skiing and Kathie, without even thinking about it, gave us the name of an outfiter in the area that could rent us the equipment. Overall, our stay was very romantic and we ate very very well the entire time we were in town. We definitely recommend this inn to everyone!

We loved seeing all the Christmas decorations going up and using one of the hundreds of holiday mugs hanging on the wall. Farmer's Guest House exceeded our expectations.....it is a short two block walk to Main Street shopping and restaurants. This was by far the best B&B at which we've stayed. The breakfasts were delicious. The availability of water, soda, pretzels and/or cookies/sweet breads was an unexpected surprise. The wine and cheese hour was always fun and a great way to meet other guests. The "common" rooms were always available for relaxing and congregating with other guests if you desired and the crossword puzzles were a real common denominator among the guests. The innkeepers go above and beyond to make the guests feel comfortable and welcome. In addition, Kathie is more than willing to make dinner reservations, book trolley tours, or whatever you are interested in doing.

This was our second stay at the Farmers' Guest House, and it was just as good as the first. We stayed in Pete and Eleanor's Suite our first two nights and Annie Lloyd's Cottage the third night. Both are excellent. Both are tastefully decorated (Pete and Eleanor's is a little more country and old-fashioned feeling). P & E's is right next to the dining room, making it very convenient to get to the complimentary cookies and bread that are always available, and it is very spacious, also with its own private entrance to the outside. The Cottage is private and secluded in a wonderful setting surrounded by trees in the back. It has its own private decks. Both rooms were extremely clean, and you can control the climate in each. Both rooms also have a whirlpool tub, fireplace, two TV's and DVD players (in the bedroom and the sitting room area). The beds are comfortable with lots of pillows. I am pregnant, so a comfortable bed is a must for me, and I did not have a problem sleeping. The inn is very nicely decorated and clean. The breakfasts were fabulous, served from 8:30-9:30. We are late sleepers but did not have a problem getting out of bed in the mornings because we looked forward to the big breakfasts so much! They have an extensive DVD and CD collection for guests to choose from. They also have games and puzzles available. They have a refrigerator in the dining room with complimentary soda and water, as well as an ice maker. Wine and cheese are served each evening in the dining room at 6 p.m., and it's a great time to meet the other guests and talk. The inn is a short walk to downtown and easy to find. The best part about the inn is the owners, Kathie and Jess. They are extremely friendly and hospitable. They will call and make reservations for you, they offer advice on where to eat and what to do, and they are full of stories about the town and their own personal lives. They make you feel like family. We look forward to our next visit!

With so many inns to select from in Galena, deciding which one I wanted to stay in was a challenge. However, I am glad I chose Farmers Guest House. Not only is the location ideal, but the warm hospitality and Americana charm of this historic property combine to make this a B&B where guests feel a sense of relaxation the moment they arrive. Snacks and complimentary drinks are available throughout the day, wine is offered in the early evening, and a delicious breakfast is prepared each morning. My wife was fortunate to have off during the week of April 14th. We decided at the last minute to do something to get away from everything and enjoy some time together. We talked about a few things and decided to visit Galena as it’s been over 15 years since we visited. We also never stayed at a B&B so we went on the internet to start searching. After several hours viewing many sites we narrowed our choices down to two. The designer for Farmers Guest House website did a fantastic job of all the details. We stayed in Pete and Eleanor’s room and could not have been happier, it was outstanding. We had a chance to “peek” into several other rooms when they weren’t occupied, all were beautiful. I especially loved the outdoor Jacuzzi first thing in the morning, we got lucky with the weather (I think we picked the nicest week of the year) and my wife joined me again in the evening. What sold me on Farmers’ was their quick response too our inquiry. Jess immediately called, answered all my questions and after our conversation we booked our room. That shows me how dedicated they are with their customers. The other B&B didn’t get back to me for 3 days (sorry to late). We basically had the place to ourselves as we went during the mid week and the other couples had to sadly head back. This was awesome because it gave us plenty of time to chat with Jess, Kathie and Charles. They made us feel like we were back home visiting family. They quickly became friends we will always remember. The location to downtown Galena was excellent, walking distance if you wanted. Shopping at this time of the year was another advantage. The stores had time to talk and make suggestions since the busy season has yet to start. For us this time of year was fantastic. Visit Galena and stay at Farmers’; you won’t be disappointed. This was so much fun, where do I start?! The inn is charming, beautifully decorated, as well as only 2 blocks from the downtown area. Our Euchre Card playing group of 18 needed a place with areas for ALL of us to gather, and the Farmer's Guesthouse met our needs! With their large dining room, we had plenty of space to play cards and do other group activities. We were all able to participate in the Murder Mystery Night, good fun had by all. We all loved the attention that was provided to the smallest details in decorating, in ALL of the rooms, whether they were bedrooms or just sitting rooms. Only complaint? This is a wonderful and charming place with the most gracious of hosts. This historic old building gracefully decorated with so many interesting antique artifacts and furniture is so well maintained and immaculatley clean. You could not find dust with white gloves. The best breakfast in town, we have stayed so many times that we have seen just about every room, ever one is special and delightful. Being so close to town you needn’t even drive your car to town. You go in as a customer and leave as a friend.

17 of my family members comfortably enjoyed this lodging for a reunion. Jess and Kathie Farlow are experts in hospitality and service - we all had a fantastic time - beautiful home, great food, lots of space, hot tub; & we all walked to down town. For just a couple or a group, it's perfect!

What a great B&B! Located within walking distance to town and shopping and dining. Kathy and Jess Farlow are perfect hosts,and make you feel at home. Terrific wine and cheese and snacks in the afternoon. Each room has own style and decor..plus each room has own thermostat. Perfect place to spend a few days. I would recommend this place to everyone.

I took my father, nine friends and family for father's day. This was my sixth visit in less than a year...Next best thing to home...The owners Kathie and Jess are just like family.. WE LOVE IT!!
