Oh what a delightful stay! Pam greeted us, and remembered us, despite the many years since our last stay. We were made to feel so welcome, there is even a "secret" stash of cookies and ice cream. A few suggestions were offered for our return visit to Hastings. These included the local vineyard, and Carpenters Nature Center. These proved to be very enjoyable. Our room was stunningly appointed, with skylights, double teak wood jacuzzi, fire place, round shower and copper soaking tub. The breakfasts were served to our time specifications, and the food was perfect. We also availed ourselves of a soup and salad supper that was so yummy and filling. We left full, peaceful, rested and planning our return visit. Not just for the food and room, but the incredibly peaceful atmosphere, Pam, and Dick, have created. And I must mention the delightful woman cleaning the rooms, who offered to do our laundry. O.K. she didn't mean it, but it made me chuckle.

I first started visiting Hastings seven years ago while researching some local history. Because of the nature of my trip, I thought it would be fun to stay in an old house instead of a cookie-cutter chain motel. It was one of the best ideas I’ve ever had. There so many things that make the Rosewood special. I can’t list them all here, but I’ll try to hit the high points. The breakfast is some of the best food I’ve had anywhere. I find myself craving it whenever I come home. The location is very convenient, but at the same time very quiet and peaceful. The rooms are all beautifully decorated and impeccably clean. Each one blends vintage elegance and contemporary convenience together in a very special way. Being a writer, I found the in-room journals - in which each room’s guests write about their stays - especially charming. But of course the physical structure itself, although obviously impressive, would be nothing without the love and care the owners put into it. Some people are born to do certain things, and it is obvious that Dick and Pam were born to be innkeepers. I remember how much I enjoyed the tour Pam gave when I first stayed at Rosewood; later, I had the opportunity to tour Thorwood (their other property; now condos) with Dick. Both tours were real highlights of my time in Hastings. Their passion for history and preservation is contagious. One more thing: I’m single and I’ve never been to the Inn with a significant other. Before I came for the first time I was a bit worried that the whole place might be a bit too lovey-dovey for me, but those fears were totally unwarranted. The Rosewood is a perfect place for ANYONE looking for a quiet retreat. Having stayed at the Rosewood about twenty times or so over the past seven years, I’m delighted to say I’m in a position to vouch for the innkeepers’ consistently stratospheric standards. Five stars all the way around.

What a beautiful place! WE had never been to a bed and breakfast, and it definitely exceeded our expectations! Pam was so pleasant and willing to do anything to make our stay the best it could be! The breakfasts were to die for (popover pancakes and bacon yum yum) We will most definitely visit again, and hope the cove will bring as much happiness to others, as it did for us! Bravo!!!!

My fiance surprised me with a stay at Rosewood. What a lovely surprise it was. This quaint little inn features great service and delicious breakfasts. Ice cream and cookies are available any time. Sure, the rooms could use a little upkeep - peeling wallpaper and spiderwebs, but overall very beautiful and relaxing. Pam and Dick are both sweet and very concerned about you having a good stay. I would definitely recommend this place to others.

My partner and I spent a weekend in the St. Croix Room at the Rosewood Inn. The room was very comfortable with a jacuzzi and sitting area. The best features were the option to have a homemade supper delivered to our room so we could stay in the mansion all weekend. It was fun to have the option of sneaking downstairs at night for ice cream and/or cookies. The porch downstairs was a great place to sit and read. The hosts were friendly and accommodating. We would come back and would recommend this B&B to any couple (gay or straight) that wants a place to relax and enjoy being together. Sandy & Cindy (St. Louis Park, MN)

If you're looking for a romantic setting, the Classic Rosewood Inn in Hastings MN is it. We loved the double whirlpool bath and the very comfortable beds, but the highlight was the 3 course gourmet breakfast served in our room at our selected time. We found two baskets outside our door with fresh fruit, pastries, entree, wonderful coffee, and juice with linen napkins and place mats. Pam Thorsen not only gave us the interesting history of the mansion, but led us in the right direction for biking and walking routes. She even provided coupons for the restaurants in town. We plan to visit there again!

We fell asleep during the "three hour tour" and were shocked and disappointed at the room and the unclean tub. It was sweet of my husband to plan this surprise, but I'll be planning the next one...

Innkeeper Response
We are very sorry that you had an unsatisfactory experience at our inn. We take your comments very seriously as does our entire staff. Although we understand that you exaggerated the length of the tour, we do not ever want guests to feel they have to hear any more of our history or restoration story than what they want. Perhaps you checked in at the same time as guests who were more interested and asked many questions. The primary goal of our orientation is to make you comfortable and at home with the whole inn. So the tour includes the location of the "help yourself goodies" (cookie jar, ice cream, hot and cold beverages) , the common spaces and fireplaces in the parlors, library and the four-season back porch. It you had just rented a room like at a hotel, you would been given a key and pointed to the elevator, but at a B & B , you are welcome to enjoy so much more. We sincerely hope you did enjoy the other amenities here. We see this was your first time at a B & B. We feel equally bad that you did not like your room Since there are photos on the website, we typically help a potential guests choose rooms that they and their partners will like. I am very sorry that it did not suit you. Your comment about an unclean tub is of great concern; we cannot understand how that could have happened as we take the utmost care with our cleaning and have a check and double check system; unfortunately, during your stay, that did not work! We hope you will contact Dick or Pam in order to remedy your concerns. Thank you very much, Dick and Pam and staff

We had a beautiful stay in a beautiful house in a beautiful town. Our host was warm and welcoming and our room a delightful retreat. Hastings' historic down town was perfect for a romanitic sunset stroll along the Mississippi River and exploring interesting shops the next day. We had a wonderful time. (And the bacon was to die for!)

A stay at the Classic Rosewood was quite simply, the perfect getaway. When we walked in, we were greeted by Pam and soon realized that she and her husband were going to make this a wonderful, romantic experience. And they truly delivered. Each room at the Rosewood is truly unique. We took full advantage of the in-room whirlpool, and loved the fact that breakfast was actually delivered to your room (The food was delicious). The weekend was a surprise to me and I have been doing a lot of hinting that I would like to go SOON!

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Rosewood Inn, located at 620 Ramsey St., Hastings, Minnesota, now welcomes guest as an eight guestroom Bed & Breakfast. The inn, which served as a private home and hospital, was marked for demolition when Innkeepers Pam & Dick Thorsen agreed to restore it. Along with its "sister" inn, Thornwood, the inns have been named "most romantic hideaway" by Mpls.- St.Paul Magazine, and specialize in, as one guest put it, "pampering with privacy."
