Forget everything bad you have read about the 1837 B&B. My wife and I stayed there Halloween weekend 2009. Very quaint, cozy, beautiful & full of rich history. Very clean room, courteous & helpful staff, and very close to everything you want to do in Charleston. Breakfast was great, fresh and hot. We had hoped to see George, but he didn't visit us!

It was our first time in Charleston - we loved it! The 1837 B&B was charming, historic and located within walking distance of shopping, dining, etc. Our room was cozy and comfy, the staff very friendly and helpful - full of suggestions for what to do and what not to do. The breakfasts were hearty and delicious (loved the "monkey bread" as well as the afternoon tea snacks). My husband and I had a VERY EARLY flight to catch and the staff prepared a delightful tray of coffee, fruit and muffins for us to eat in our room before our departure...extremely accommodating. We'd stay again!

Can't wait to return to Charleston and the 1837 B&B! My husband and I have stayed in many B&Bs throughout the southeast and Maine and the 1837 ranks high on our list as the perfect choice for a special long weekend. Our trip to Charleston was mainly for the wedding of dear friends, but was enhanced by our stay at the 1837. The room was on the second floor and was beautifully decorated. One of our reasons for choosing B&Bs is the fact that the bedrooms are cozy, comfortable and inviting. The canopied bed was all of the above. Great nights of sleeping throughout the stay. We were especially impressed with the scrumptuous breakfasts each day and the only repetition in food was fresh fruit which was presented each day. Who wouldn't want fresh fruit every day? From stuffed french toast the first morning to a delicious frittata on our last day, all the entrees were varied and beautifully prepared and presented. The location is ideal, two blocks from King Street which has wonderful shops and restaurants, and an easy stroll to many local sights. We walked to an owner recommended Italian bistro very near the B&B on our last night and enjoyed a marvelous meal. Our large SUV requires finesse in parking but we managed quite well in the B&B area and street side parking. One chilly afternoon after an excursion we returned to the inn and the staff prepared a tray with hot tea for our room. What a delightful treat that was...just another special amenity at the 1837. Our memorable stay was accentuated by the staff who were very adept at not only expertly preparing a gourmet breakfast for 10-12 guests each morning but also accommodating questions concerning the inn and the area. We love Charleston and now we love the 1837 B&B as well. Don't know what took us so long to finally stay there, but now we can't wait to return.

Our room was very nicely appointed and the staff were pleasant and helpful. Our only issue was that staff skipped the afternoon tea on two days because of holiday plans -- which was mildly inconvenient for guests who were there precisely because of the holidays.

1837 is an absolute delight. A three night stay provided a first class base from which to explore the historic and very stylish Charleston. The 1837 breakfast is a particular highlight: delicious southern fare prepared by a delightful manager (she's a real hoot!) and interesting fellow guests. Don't miss the opportunity of 1837.

My husband and I were celebrating our 40th anniversary and our 1st stay was Savannah, GA, which we loved. when we arrived at 1837 B&B we were greeted by the manager and owner. They took our money and were happy to do so and we never saw them again, only to find collage students running the business.

We stayed at the 1837 Bed and Breakfast for three days and absolutely loved it!! The room we stayed in was on the top floor (3-2) and it was so big and roomy. The bathroom was very spacious as well. The whole place was very quite and relaxing. The breakfast was very good!! and the staff was so nice and helpful with anything we needed. Its very close walking distance to all the main stuff in Charleston and I can't wait to stay there again.

Great location (able to walk everywhere) in a great Southern town. Stayed in the Carriage House which had plenty of character & all amenities, but smaller room. Comfortable porch w/ afternoon tea. Breakfast was good, maybe not great. Tight parking. Very enjoyable stay.

I stayed at this Bed and Breakfast for a long weekend in Charleston. I have brown up within an hour of Charleston, so I have frequently visited and stayed at many different locations downtown over the years. I have to say that this particular location was especially nice. The customer service was excellent. Everyone was very helpful and went beyond the call of duty. The young girls working the front desk were delightful. As for the rooms, they definetely had a historical and quaint feel to them. They were clean and confortable. The only room that was not comfortable was the common study. It was very dark, old, and not homey at all. The B&B is also located in a great place, only blocks from King Street. I was able to walk everywhere I needed to go. The only problem I found was the flooding when it rains. Walking back from King Street, I literally had to wade through Knee-high water to get to the B&B. There was no way around it that I could see. Unfortunetly, this flooding occurs all over the city when it rains. It only put a small damper on my day. All in all, I would stay here again.

We stayed for a brief getaway 3/10-3/12/08. The room was very nice, good size for a couple. The breakfast was very tasty. The best part about 1837 is the location. Very quick walk to the shopping and restaurants. Would definitely recommend.
