The Blake House is a really nice old house, with high ceilings and lots of character. If you are looking for a place to stay that is new and sanitized, this isn't the place for you, it's old and anyone who has lived in an old house knows it's impossible to keep an old house spotless. The room we stayed in was comfortable, although the bathroom was an add on and is about the size of a closet. Not too bad for a one or two night stay, but if I were to stay longer I would pay extra for a room with a larger bath. The breakfast was good, nothing too fancy but better than I'd eat at home anyway. The bed was comfortable, and there were plenty of blankets to keep warm with. All in all it was a good experience, I'm sure there are nicer places to stay at in the Asheville area, but for me I didn't want to pay a lot of money for a room, and this place was nice enough for me!

We loved our two nights at the 1847 Blake House Inn. Well appointed, clean rooms. Close to downtown Asheville, the Biltmore, and the Blue Ridge Parkway. Easy to find and travel in and around Asheville. Would definately stay again! Thanks.

I was in town for a cycling camp and looked at many different options for accommodations. This place more than exceeded my expectations in regards to cleanliness, amenities, and decor. I only rated service and dining as meets expectations b/c I didn't get to enjoy breakfast due to my very early schedule each morning. I would definitely return for a mini vacation and recommend the inn to family and friends. As a former hotel employee, I can be a little critical so take my word - this place is clean, well kept and beautifully decorated.

I had a wonderful four day stay. Breakfast was perfect every morning. I was there to get away from it all and was able to do so. The gardens were beautiful. Even the Spring snow couldn't make it a bad stay. I'll be back soon.

As a first time bed & breakfast guest the Blake House Inn over-delivered the experience I hoped to have. Leslie the Inn Keeper is a fine host and the property is gorgeous. I will be back and shall tell everyone I know to choose this establishment.

I recently stayed at the 1847 Blake House Inn B & B. I loved everything about it. My room, Azalea Room, was so beautiful, breakfast was to die for and Leslie couldn't have been nicer. I truly didn't want to leave and return to the real world. Marilyn, Eutawville, SC

I stayed at the Blake House Inn with my Girlfriend on November 1st 2008 and it was AMAZING! The room was great, the service was excellent (Leslie set up a one hour massage for my girlfriend with less than 24 hours notice), and the food was excellent. I had a great time and it is really close to great dinning and Biltmore!

Biggest complaint is that the innkeeper was less than accomodating. The rooms were beautiful - all were booked for the wedding party. The wedding was on the grounds. We have an adult disabled child and the first morning at breakfast, he accidentally spilled his orange juice on the table. I immediately used my napkin and my husband's to catch the spill. When Leslie came in, I apologized and said we had to use our napkins to clean it up. She said 'No problem' but never removed the soiled napkins or even brought us clean napkins. The next morning at breakfast, I overheard one of the girls at the table where the future bride and her friends were eating say that Leslie reminded her of a mean school teacher. There were a few things about Leslie that I thought were less than accommodating and I will send her an e-mail detailing them instead of listing them on this website. I'm used to staying at nice hotels and good service is what makes lasting impressions. Leslie didn't seem to be a people person to me and wasn't interested in going the extra mile to make the stay one we would want to repeat. Loretta (Chef), on the other hand, was very friendly and personable. She made every effort to be accommodating and always with a smile!

We stayed at the Blake House Inn with our two dogs. Leslie was very welcoming and made us all feel at home. The Magnolia room was very beautiful and was bathed in the glow of the full moon the first night we were there. But the real draw of the Blake House Inn was the food - every breakfast was unique and beautifully presented. We were so full, we skipped lunch, even with hiking at Chimney Rock and along the Blue Ridge. We will definitely return!

My husband and I stayed in the Dogwood room for 4 nights during our retreat to Asheville. It was charming and comfortable with all the amenties. We loved the fireplace and the 14 foot ceilings; lots of sunshine and natural light. Leslie went out of her way to help our friends and family surprise us with fresh flowers in our room, chocolate covered strawberries and dinner for 2 at a fabulous local retaurant. We booked the SPA experience in our room and it was certainly a treat. All breakfasts were delicious and were a "twist" on traditional favorites; my favorites were the spinich and atrichoke eggs benedict and the bananna/fresh fruit sundae. The location is close to all the major attractions (Biltmore, Chimney Rock and Blue Ridge pkwy) and accessible to highway and restaurants but it is quiet and secluded. Would definately stay at the Blake House Inn again!

Review 1847 Blake House Inn Bed & Breakfast, Arden, NC

Photo Album

The Magnolia Room is our mid-range room with a queen-size bed, original heart pine floors, gas fireplace, and 12' high ceilings. The unique feature in this room is the full fabric canopy ceiling. Like all of our guestrooms, this room is air-conditioned and the private bathroom has a shower. We do allow pets in this room and keep a suitcase with toys and blankets in the armoire. The custom king size bed made from an antique door matches the window hanging above the bed. It is perfect for a family of three with its brass accented white day bed, skylight, and antique vanity table. The full bath has a brand new large tiled in shower. The Azalea Room has cable TV, DVD player, and a telephone. Because the room is fully carpeted, we do not allow pets in this room.
The Lilac Room is the largest guest room in the main house and it features a king size bed, and a fireplace framed in ornamental ceramic tiles with a large original mantle and gas logs. There is cable TV and DVD player in the room along with a telephone and seating area. In addition, you can write up one our complimentary post cards at the antique writing desk. French doors leading to Helen's Balcony and the Inn's largest private bath with an antique cast iron tub and shower, that has dark blue outer enamel, brass claw feet and white porcelain inside, set the stage for returning to the slower, more relaxed times of the 1840's.This photo shows a portion of the living room and a piece of the kitchenette in the Carriage House Guest Suite.
2 Dining Rooms can hold up to 70 people for weddings, receptions, meetings, showers, etc.Covered front porch with seating and hammock
This photo shows the covered entryway to the house as well as some of the grounds, including the steps leading to the gazebo.1847 Blake house Inn Bed & Breakfast
Second floor guest-only sitting and reading hallway with game table and chairs.Parking area and entrance in winter.
Dogwood Room with king bed, fireplace, hardwood floors and 12' high ceilings. Private bathroom with shower.
The Sycamore Suite, located on the first floor of the Carriage House, is perfect for families with children, people looking for an extended stay, and small groups. The suite, which can accommodate up to four adults and two children, includes a large bedroom with a king bed and a separate living room with a full-size sofabed. We also have a toddler bed and a rollaway bed for children. The bathroom is spacious and the kitchenette has a small refrigerator, oven/stove, coffee maker, and a table with four chairs. Continental breakfast is included in the nightly rate for the Suite and your kitchenette will be stocked for your stay. If you wish to enjoy the hot breakfast in the main house, please add $10 per person (age 6 and older) to the nightly rate.
