We thoroughly enjoyed our recent stay in this beautiful home. Having never stayed at a B&B we weren’t sure what to expect. We weren’t sure how comfortable we’d feel staying in someone’s home. We were absolutely delighted at the warmth and inviting atmosphere of the home as well as your hospitality of Barbara and Chip. The accommodations were exquisite, the breakfasts and snacks were outstanding and the overall experience was delightful. Barbara and Chip were the BEST at recommending places to visit - better than a tour guide. We’ll be sure to return and are looking forward to our next visit.

The plan was a girlfriends' weekend... We reserved the Dudley, a charming suite. The is a sitting room with a small kitchenette (micro, sink, frig), electric fireplace, and comfy sofa and chairs. The bedroom has a king size and a twin. Slumber party perfect. The Craig house is comfortably and beautifully decorated inside and out. There is a wonderful eye to detail and an anticipation to comfort and beauty. I love hanging out on the porch! You immediately feel at ease and at rest. The breakfasts are to die for; truly a feast for any epicure. Makes waking up a whole new adventure! Yum! Barbara and Chip are wonderfully kind hosts and attend to you your needs thoughtfully. We had an emergency of sorts and they came to our rescue - above and beyond our expectations. We certainly appreciate their generous kind spirit. The house is centrally located and an easy walk to most of the town sights. There are bicycles available at the house for the guests - a nice consideration. I plan to come back for a romantic stay with my darling husband come Spring or Fall.

After a busy summer season in the Hamptons (Long Isl, NY), my wife and I like to try out B&B's at the start of the "off" season. We needed to relax and the John F. Craig House offered us just that along with great food and good company. We would highly recommend this cozy and very clean B&B to all visiting the beautiful Cape May area.

You couldn't ask for more charming hosts. The B&B is most delightful--quaint, beautifully decorated, clean, close to the beach and to Washington Square. The late afternoon cocktail hour on the porch is quite enjoyable and I especially enjoyed how Barbara and Chip mingle with the guests and make certain everyone is introduced to the other guests and feel at home. Would definitely stay here again!

My fiancee and I so needed a break and found a room at the John F. Craig house in Sept. We had never seen it except online but it exceeded our expectations. Our room was adorable and clean and the inn is wonderful. fresh breakfast was served everyday and was different every day so we looked forward to catching up with the other guests and Barbara in the morning. We had cocktails on the front porch every night with a snack made by Barbara and she made sure that every guest knew every other guest and it allowed us to form some really wonderful friendships while we were there. Chip and Barbara are very knowledgeable about the area and restaurants and all and made us feel like a member of their family. We can't wait to go back next year!!!!

This was our first time in Cape May and thanks to Barbara and Chip, it was wonderful. Although we had our our bikes, there were bikes to use, along with beach chairs and towels. We stayed in the Emma Camp room on the first floor. It was so quiet and convenient. We plan to go back and will ask for the same room. We really enjoyed the afternoon "wine" gathering on the porch when we had a chance to meet people and talk about what we'd done that day and compare notes on the best places to eat. Thanks for making our first trip to Cape May so special.

My husband and I were recent first time visitors to the Craig House, and we will definitely join the many "repeaters". The home, only a block from the beach and centrally located, is magnificent. However, what really makes it a special spot is the hospitality of Chip and Barbara, and the interesting multi-generational guests they attract who come back each year. The breakfasts are amazing, but we especially loved the happy hour, (or two), complete with wine and a freshly made fruit drink, and light appetizers. It was a perfect way to rehash the day with others before heading out to various exceptional restaurants accurately described by Barbara. What a delightful time!

I have stayed at this B&B on two occasions. In February 2009 the atmosphere was cozy and friendly. Both Barbara and Chip were friendly and helpful. I loved the fireplace in the room. My husband and I stayed at this B&B last week for 3 nights midweek. We attended a birding workshop. On our first day in we made full use of the free bikes which were available and the beach chairs and towels. The tea at 5:00 was just lovely, as it had been in the winter. A delicious cold wine or sangria was served and it was great fun to converse with the other guests. Our room (#1) was wonderful and I especially enjoyed the first floor access. The AC and large shower stall added to this nicely decorated room. I plan to visit the John F. Craig House again in the future. MZW

After several years of staying in the "new" (1866) portion of the house, we decided to try the older (1850s) section, specifically Room #1, the Emma Camp Room. This room is located on the first floor, with easy access to the side entrance as well as the rest of the house. We found it to be cozy, and very quiet - we were completely unaware of other guests. And when we emerged in the morning, we were greeted by the aroma of one of the delicious breakfasts for which this B&B is so famous. We will reserve this room again.

The John F Craig House is home to Barb and Chip. They invite you to share their home with them. They are genuine and authentic. They make you feel welcome, they know who you are, and make sure you know everyone else who staying in their home. You know that they are there to help you in any way possible. Their rooms are comfortable to stay in, as if they slept there and knew what you needed. They are the bar that other B&B's will need to reach We recently spent a few nights here while visiting with our children/grandchildr en. It's close to the beach, town, good restaurants, and the Coast Guard Station. Breakfast was served every morning, and the scents while cooking always peaked our appetites. Every evening there was a reception, that we missed to spend time with the family, but if the breakfast is any indication, it was delicious. Everything was very clean and cozy, Barbara and Chip were fantastic hosts. If we are ever in the area again, we will stay here again, no doubt. And although it's a B&B, they have free wireless and in room refrigerator and coffee maker!!!

Anyone out there reading this....you will not be let down if you stay here! My husband and I returned to Cape May for our second visit on 7/31/09. We chose to stay at the John F. Craig house for the second time because our first experience was so positively memorable. We were not let down either! The yummy breakfasts, service with a smile, and clean accommodations still existed. This time our best friends joined us for the weekend to celebrate a 46th b-day. However, they stayed at a different B&B. After telling them about all of the great accommodations at the John F. Craig house our friends wanted to take a visit. On our last day of the stay the Innkeeper, Barbara, graciously let them take a tour of the house. After a comfortably-lengthy conversation with Barbara our friends immediately signed up to stay for a long weekend the following year. We are already looking forward to our return next year. What's better than great restaurants, good shopping, romantic bike rides, beach bathing, and stubbling into the same B&B with your best friends after dancing the night away at the Ugly Mug???? Thank you Barbara and Chip for making our stay a memorable one yet again! Vernon, NJ residents

After having come on several day trips to the beautiful Cape May, I wanted to treat my sister from Arizona to the victorian splendor you encounter there. I decided on the John F Craig House based on previous reviews and central location...and I certainly made the right choice. From the time we drove up to the curb, Barbara made us feel and home and guided us on our stay. We stayed in a beautifully decorated room on the third floor which was immaculately clean and full of little treasures such as the ingenious foot board made by Chip. The buffet breakfast was sumptuous and we enjoyed hearing Barb's ghost stories in the beautiful dining room and front porch. We never needed our car as the beach and Washington St mall was within walking distance, but we most enjoyed seeing the town by bicycles which were provided by Chip and Barb, as well as beach towels and chairs if needed. We most enjoyed the enchanting Merion restaurant, which was one of the many suggestions for dinner. My sister said it best: "I feel like I've been in a dream the whole time I've been here" and I agree. I can't for a return visit with my ohter sister and Mom...don't want them to miss out on this dream of a vacation.

I've stayed at half a dozen B&Bs in Cape May, many of which were very upscale, but this by far was my favorite. Not only was our room perfect, but Barb was the most gracious hostess. I especially loved the fact that she provides a kitchen just for guests where they can help themselves to snacks, coffee, tea, and other refreshements. I truly felt at home rather than a visitor. Also, the location can't be beat. You're only a block away from the center of town and all the shops. Yet, at the same time, the house is located on a quiet street so that you're not disturbed. Breakfast was sensational - one that I will always remember. I know without a doubt that I will return in the future.

Cape May is a sweet destination. I've been there maybe ten times in 40 years, the last three times staying with proprietors Barbara and Chip at the Craig House. They create a congenial, relaxing environment; and they serve great breakfasts as well as late-afternoon snacks. Their house is a block from the ocean front, in the heart of a town that has such graceful architecture and a quietness that is worth gold. Whether you arrive from the south by water on the Lewes Ferry or from the north through wetlands on the Garden State Parkway, you get the sense right away that you are taking a little step back in time.

My husband and I stayed at the John F. Craig House this past November. It was actually a surprise my husband had planned for me. And what a surprise it was because I had the best time ever. The house was so perfectly decorated with Victorian style everything and felt so cozy and beautiful at the same time. We got to start our day by waking up to a wonderful breakfast, which was different (and absolutely delicious) each day. After stuffing ourselves with the tasty breakfast, we would head out to walk in the town and visit all the cute shops there. You don't need your car once you get there. Then we would head back to the John F. Craig House and help ourselves to the kitchen stacked goodies and bring the homemade cookies, chips, and soda down to the beach, which is only a block away, and walk and fish on the beach. At dusk, we would head back to the John F. Craig house for some of Barbara's special sangria and yummy, freshly made snacks. The John F. Craig House catered to me and my husband. I loved the Victorian decor that Barbara added and my husband loved the pictures of the "good looking ladies" that Chip added. I loved the delicious variety of food and my husband loved the yummy snacks that we could just take to go. I had to buy Barbara's cook book because the food was just too good. And yes, the house is just as beautiful as the pictures. The John F. Craig House is so warm, beautiful, has lots of rooms, a well stocked library, cozy front porch and even plenty of chocolate in your own room. Barbara and Chip did a wonderful job and made it an absolutely wonderful stay for both me and my husband. Andre and Samantha DePaul

They also have a great Afternoon Tea with very enjoyable snacks. We went to some other bed & breakfasts in the area & the innkeepers were either not there all the time or did not make themselves available to help us with choices of restaurants, etc. Barbara & Chip always avail themselves and are very helpful. The rooms are beautifully decorated with antiques and whimsy, yet still have all the modern conveniences. Breakfasts are served buffet style, so there is always something for everyone. Much better than a plated breakfast where you don't have a choice, and may not like what is being offered. I don't know what the previous poster could possibly have found wrong with the breakfasts. A terrific long-weekend in Cape May, made especially so by the congeniality and friendliness of our John f. Craig House hosts, Chip and Barbara. Each day started with a gourmet breakfast (the French toast with orange butter is to die for) and the evening with "punch on the porch." Barb's love of her town is evident in her commentary about the best spots intown for food and entertainment. Our room, the Emma Camp, was cozy and comfortable, tucked away in a quiet niche on the first floor. It was nicely appointed with a SUPER COMFY queen bed, TV, "fireplace." It adjoins an enclosed porch with a doorway to the outside, giving us a sitting room and a "private" entrance. Neat! Also at our disposal were bikes, beach towels and chairs and an outside shower. This is the place to stay. Jack and Ermina, Maryland

This was our first time to Cape May and our first time staying in a B & B. Chip and Barbara made it a warm and memorable experience that we will never forget. As first timers, Barbara showed us the ropes of the B & B way and gave us valuable information about the wonderful places to eat and see in the area. Everything was in walking distance and the location of the Craig House was ideal. A block from the beach and about 2 from the Pedestrian Mall. We stayed in the Dudley Wager suite which had all of the comforts of home. Very cozy and clean. The Craig House was decorated in a "whimsical" style that was comfortable and fun to browse through. The house was made complete with the presence of Chip and Barbara. They were extremely friendly and very hospitable. Last but not least...breakfast. We could not wait until the next morning to find out what delicious delicacies Barbara and Chip had made for breakfast. Each one was better than the day before. Breakfast is definitely one of the many things we miss! Definitely a trip to treasure and we will definitely be back to visit the John F. Craig House in the future.

We had an exceptional stay at the Craig House over the July 4th holiday. The room was comfortable and spacious. The breakfast was a highlight for us..delicious and something new every day. I even bought the cookbook so I could practice at home! We felt very welcome in the home and were provided with every convenience! Great location too! I highly recommend the Craig House for your special getaway!

I was looking for a quiet place for a winter getaway to do some writing, but the John F. Craig House is so imaginative, delightful, and unique that I never could have anticipated how perfect it would be! Just a short walk from the beach and from the very center of gorgeous old Cape May, it's a splendid historic house furnished with beauty, character, and whimsy. The food is fantastic. The proprietors are a delight, gracious and thoughtful, and they make you feel as though you are staying with dear friends. I had an unforgettable visit and am now thinking I will try to return every year for another stay at this place where hours of reflection and writing in the cold days of the year are enveloped in the warmth of this utterly charming B&B.

We celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary on April 28th. Our first trip to Cape May, we love to stay at B&B's. The John F. Craig House was our pick. It was WONDERFUL!! The house is Beautiful, Chip and Barbara put their hearts and souls into it. We were so comfortable, a very homey feeling, we hated to leave. We will go back to Cape May and the John F. Craig House, Chip was very busy getting things ready for the summer season, he was never to busy to chat with us. "Sarge" Barbara Honey saw to make our every whim happen. What a great couple! Thanks to both of you!

My Mom and I were planning a mother-daughter getaway to Cape May. I found The John F Craig House online. The rooms and inn looked lovely on the web site so we decided to stay there. The inn is that lovely and more. When we arrived, Barbara greeted us at the door with a warm smile. Chip was quietly setting up the porch for afternoon refreshments. Barbara brought us in, showed us around and then brought us to our room. We stayed in the Emma Camp room. Its on the first floor, very convenient to the small kitchen on the first floor (stocked with refreshments and snacks) as well as the common areas, while remaining quiet and private. The room was so inviting. Beautifully appointed in Victorian style. Immaculate. Comfortable. Perfect. After we settled in, we met the other folks on the front porch for sangria. Barbara joined us and provided us with a verbal tour of the local eateries and some fun things to experience. Her recommendations were spot on! We first ate dinner at the Merion Inn (wonderful atmosphere, yummy food, gracious hostesses and servers). The second night we had drinks and tapas at Martini Beach (a lovely restaurant/bar) right on Beach Avenue. Great laid back atmosphere, delicious food and great martinis!!! Back to the Craig House. There are wonderful pictures on the walls... very Victorian, eclectic, interesting and fun. Barbara and Chip have a library complete with videos that you can borrow for your room during your stay. Breakfast each morning in the dining room was wonderful. We were first treated to the house specialty of Chip's waffles. Warm blueberries, spiced apples and such to put on top. The second morning, Barbara made a wonderful egg casserole dish and other delicacies... but the best was her special coffee cake (definitely worthy of seconds!). I recommend the John F Craig House without hesitation. Perfect inn, Perfect location, Perfect hosts!! When I go back to Cape May, there is no other place that I want to stay.

Sometimes words are inadequate to describe something really wonderful. A review of the John Craig B&B is just such an instance. Barbara and Chip have put a great deal of effort into providing a relaxing, unique and beautiful retreat and the time and effort shows in every nook and corner. The house has been meticulously maintained and decorated with wonderful and whimsical antiques that can keep one browsing around for hours; not ‘shabby chic’ just chic. Both Barbara and Chip are gracious hosts who offer free bikes for touring and Barbara serves the most wonderful breakfast imagined. They also maintain full menus of all the area restaurants and are full of very helpful tips and insights of beautiful Cape May. This is a MUST if you are accustomed to the best a Bed & Bath can offer.

The John F. Craig house is a very special place, thanks to Chip and Barbara Masemore. They have spent hundreds of hours restoring the gorgeous old inn, decorating it with their personal collections and going over all the details with a fine-tooth comb. From the room presentations to the elaborate breakfasts and tea times, Chip and Barbara have worked hard to ensure their guests receive a first-class experience. There are so many details that make this Cape May Bed and Breakfast a wonderful place to stay, it's difficult to mention them all. My wife and I appreciated the guest pantry that was available 24 hours a day, stocked with all sorts of teas, hot cocoa, soda, bottled water, snacks and even homemade cookies and trail mix. The bowls of M&M's on the dining room table were also a nice touch. Housekeeping was impeccable and we loved the fancy soaps and chocolate mints in our room. The furnishings were tremendous, with Victorian pieces everywhere the eyes roamed. Both Barbara and Chip were extremely friendly and easy to talk to, graciously passing along stories and information about their 150 old inn. The sun room was perfect for colder mornings and when the weather cooperated, coffee on the spacious front porch was a pleasure. I could go on and on about what a special place Barbara and Chip have created, in the John F. Craig house, but wouldn't you rather book a room and find out for yourself? I promise, you won't be disappointed!

We loved our stay at the John Craig House in late February/early March 2008. The B&B is well maintained, extremely clean, well appointed, charming, excellent breakfast and "afternoon tea" (delicious wine and treats, yum), perfect location (close to the beach and to town), with knowledgeable and experienced B&B hosts. We give the John Craig House our highest recommendation.

My husband and I went here for our 1 yr. wedding anniversary, which was a gift from a good friend of ours, and we absolutely loved it! It was very relaxing, very homely and the breakfast in the morning was overly completely satisfying! Barbara & Chip are great people....they're kind of like the grandparents I never had. They're very down to earth and make this place a very comfortable stay! I would definitely recommend staying here. My husband and I are going to be going back...we just don't know when cause we have a 9 month old. It's harder than it seems to actually be able to get away for a weekend! :-)

Thanks to Barbara & Chip for paying such close attention to details to make their B&B a cut above the rest. My husband & I were so pleased to find our room every bit as comfortable as it was beautiful. Shelves, outlets, footrests, tv, fridge, make-up mirror, and other comforts of home were artfully incorporated into our lovely antique-filled room. We enjoyed the many gorgeous yet functional common areas -- closed and open porches, parlor, library. On Saturday night we were treated to a program from a local birding expert which was followed by a guided walk on Sunday morning. We experienced comfortable surroundings, lovely people, & great food!

The John Craig House has become a romantic home away from home for my wife and I. For 2 years we have stayed on New Years Eve and Day. We decided this year to make this a tradition in our marriage. You will not find an experience like the one you will have with chip and barbara anywhere else in cape may. The house speaks for itself as well as the food, but the atmosphere is one that you need to experience for yourself. (AWSOME)

I especially enjoy the enlcosed porch. I write my Christmas cards there. We have stayed in a variety of rooms and liked them all. Chip and Barb are great hosts who know how to mingle well with the guests. The food is delicious and we always meet interesting people. We had a wonderful weekend in Cape May during the holiday festivities. The inn is perfectly located close to shopping, restaurants and activities so that we did not need the car all weekend. The Ford room is a nice size and very comfortable. There is a nice Martin guitar available for guest use and I enjoyed playing it in front of the fireplace while my wife worked on a quilt. The Christmas decorations were wonderful. If you go during the holiday season be sure to take advantage of the Candlelight House tour. We didn't make it to all of the homes, but if you love Christmas decorations (we do) it's very nice and everyone walking around on the tour is in great holiday spirit. We hope to return next year!

The John F. Craig House is a truly magical inn, and that is primarily due to the owners and innkeepers, Chip and Barbara. We met them during our first visit to Cape May at Christmas twelve years ago and then had a fun-filled and joyous wedding the next year at the inn they previously owned. We have returned every year since to celebrate our anniversary. We followed Chip and Barbara to the Craig House and quickly realized that as much as we felt a part of our lives was connected to their former inn, a bigger part of the happiness connected to our wedding was due to the care and concern that the two of them put into helping plan the details of our big day. Chip and Barbara will make your stay in Cape May a truly memorable one, and you will undoubtedly want to return. Their ability to get you to slow down and simply relax will leave you feeling refreshed and renewed. The only bad part about visiting The Craig House is that you eventually have to leave, but if you're like us, you'll return every year.

Barb greeted us upon arrival and made sure to introduce us to the other guests whenever possible. The afternoon tea on the front porch was such fun, and conversation flowed. I think the attention paid to all the guests made each of us feel so comfortable that even the most shy felt secure enough to join in. Chip was also an affable host, and the accommodations were immaculate and eclectic. It was not a surprise to learn that Barb is an interior designer. The breakfast was outstanding, and I would recommend the John F. Craig to anyone who is looking for an authentic Cape May experience. At a block or so from the beach as well as the pedestrian mall, the location couldn't have been better. I look forward to returning for a longer stay soon!

We had two nights to "get away" from the kids, so we had to make it count. I did lots of research to make sure this B&B had positive reviews and excellent location. We were not disappointed. Chip greeted us first with his warm handshake and explanation of all of the necessary things we would need to know to make our short stay comfortable. We were to stay in the Emma Camp room, just large enough for the two of us, but cozy, immaculate and welcoming. The co-host, Barb, was equally welcoming and excellent at remembering all of the guests first names, introducing us all at every occasion that came up during breakfast, afternoon refreshments and just hanging out on the porch together. She was also very informative, as she explained all of our options within 3 blocks for dinner. Having been to Cape May only for day trips in the past, we needed guidance to get out of our usual safety zones, so we took all of her suggestions and were never disappointed. We would definitely stay there again.

We spent 3 wonderful nights with Barb and Chip and had a great time. The weather was perfect as was the Craig house and the hosts were most gracious. The breakfast were very good and I could see why it is voted best breakfast. No detail is left out to make your stay very comfortable. I have nothing but praise for the Craig house with my only grip is that the cost of any place nice in the Northeast is going our of sight and the 14% NJ tax does not help. I have stayed with Barb and Chip 3 times and will bite the bullet again and go back. I also will recommend the Craig House to my friends.

Smashing is a British terminology for great. I took my friend Veronica, visitng the states from London, England to Cape May for the weekend. We stayed with Barb & Chip and had a most wonderful experience both for a first-timer to NJ shores and for me, who had not been to Cape May since I was a small child. Not a beach person, I have been converted to this little place of heaven and to staying at the Craig house, where their hospitality was "Super" as the Brits also say. My friend loved it and I am sure she told all her friends back home about it as I told all my friends in PA.
