We spent two nights at the Buttonwood Inn and appreciated the quiet location away from the congested highway which runs through North Conway. Bill and Paula, owners/innkeepers, were very welcoming and accommodating. They even provided glutin free breakfasts for my husband who is glutin intolerant. They also recommended and made reservations for dinner for both nights. The restaurants, the Cider Mountain Company and Thomas House Eatery, provided a local flavor, had great food and also accommodated my husband's diet. Bill and Paula more than went out of their way to make our stay in their cozy inn a pleasant experience.

Stayed for 3 nights over Columbus weekend when the place was full to capacity but still a comfortable, restful place to be. If you like the peace and quiet of B+Bs then this is a really good one. We stayed in 2 others during our recent trip and this was by far our favourite. Paula's cooking is excellent and the dishes vary every day. There is no choice of breakfast menu which could be a problem, I suppose, if you are a fussy eater, but the quality of everything is superb - a wider choice would undoubtedly compromise the quality in such a small place. The public areas are lovely - 2 large rooms which differ in atmosphere. One is great for TV and using the free internet. The other better for sitting in front of the fire with a book or chatting to other guests. The attention to detail and cleanliness of the place is second to none. Bill and Paula are very helpful in recommending local restaurants and making reservations- very keen to hear your feedback as they won't continue to recommend places that don't treat their guests well. Bill has a great sense of humour despite his serious look!! Great trails in the mountains directly behind the house so you don't always have to get in the car. Didn't use the pool so late in the season but I bet it would be lovely in summer. Would definitely recommend

We had a very positive experience at Buttonwood Inn. The hosts, the rooms, the furnishings, the breakfasts, and the amenities all met or exceeded our expectations. The facility is very spacious, with enough common rooms to spread out and enjoy privacy for reading or conversation. It's a very peaceful place. We were pleasantly surprised at the lower level, which offered a large space for relaxing. We wished we had planned a longer stay, to take advantage of all there is to do in the immediate vicinity. The hosts were very helpful in suggesting restaurants and activities in the area. A very pleasant experience overall.

We originally booked 3 nights at the Buttonwood, and stayed for a further 2, we liked it so much. Our hosts Paula and Bill were fantastic. Very friendly and helpful, with the added bonus that Paula is a wonderful chef, her gourmet breakfasts were perfect, imaginative but not huge, just enough to set you up for a days walking in the beautiful surrounding countryside. The Inn had everything we could wish for including pool, jacuzzi, great DVD collection, and a peep through Bill's telescope at the planets and stars!! Lali & Tony

This is an outstanding place. The rooms are comfortable and beautiful. We liked the mattresses very much --- they are high quality, much better than in most bed & breakfasts we have been to. We slept very well. There is central air conditioning, although we did not need it, it was cool in the White Mountains even in August. The location is perfectly quiet, we left the windows open all night long and did not hear a thing. (I am fairly noise sensitive ordinarily.) Breakfast is excellent. It's a drive of a few minutes from the main street of North Conway. We were there for four days with our six-year-old son, no problems whatsoever with that.

My wife and I have stayed at many B&B's over the years, but we agreed that the Buttonwood Inn tops the list. Every aspect of our stay was superb, from the friendly and easy reservation, to the beautiful and clean facilities and especially the exceptional breakfasts each morning. An added bonus is that the Inn is easily accessible from the alternate "North-South" roadway that allows you to bypass the awful Route 16 traffic that goes through the heart of North Conway. Bill and Paula are wonderful hosts. We felt pampered the whole weekend.

I had a last minute chance to get away and again choose the Mt. Washington area of New Hampshire. This time we were staying at the Buttonwood Inn with Inn keepers Bill and Paula. Everything on their website is quite accurate, actually what you experience is better than what you read. Had a lot of great food with Paula's culinary delights, and comparing notes about the area with Bill, who time after time came up with great suggestions for dinner. we would not hesitate to reccomend the Buttonwood Inn, and would go there again. Our stay at the buttonwood inn could not have been more fun and relaxing. My girlfriend and I spent 6 nights there over the weekend of the fourth and Bill and Paula saw to it personally that there was enough to keep us occupied during our stay, whether it was suggesting restaurants and making reservations, planning kayaking trips for us, or directing us towards great nearby hiking trails and water falls. The hospitality was outstanding--Paula is a very talented chef and we looked forward to her breakfasts and afternoon snack every day. Bill's got a great knowledge of the area and made sure we didn't have a dull moment or eat a bad meal while we were there. Rooms were cozy and commodities were all up to date. The inn is situated far enough from the center of town so as not to be noisy but downtown North Conway is only a 5 minute drive away. Overall, our stay was excellent, even given the rainy weather, and we would most definitely stay the buttonwood inn again.

Over the past few years I have visited the Buttonwood Inn in Kearsarge, NH, at least 4 or 5 times. Each time I have been delighted with the tranquility of the Inn, the friendliness of Bill and Paula, the proprietors, and the care they take in making the Buttonwood Inn such a perfect place for rest and relaxation. In the summer I have hiked into the woods from the beautiful tree shaded grounds of the Inn. In the winter I have snow shoed and gone cross country skiing from the front porch. Inside and out, in any season the Inn has been comfortable, well maintained, and the surrounding area of Kearsarge, North Conway, and the Mt. Washington Valley have provided many points of interest to visit, lots of hiking, skiing, and even shopping. And did I mention the breakfasts?! Paula is an excellent cook. Her breakfasts will keep you going until her rich and varied cookies or brownies turn up in the late afternoon. Bill serves the breakfast in a cheerful manner and is always available to offer advice about sightseeing in the region and interesting animal sightings. I just visited in June and plan to go back in the fall. Time spent at the Buttonwood Inn is rejuvenating.

Our stay at the Buttonwood Inn has been the best stay yet at a bed and breakfast. The care and attention that was given to us was far better than any hotel could ever give. The inn keepers were very kind, helpful and welcoming. So what can you look forward to while staying at this diamind in the rough? How does a nice hot jacuzzi under the stars sound after a long day of skiiing or snowmobiling. We loved lounging in the outdoor jacuzzi after a long day, coctail in hand, just a great way to relax and get ready for a night on the town. So if going out all night isn't your thing, then don't sweat it. The Buttonwood Inn has a great "lounge area" complete with a bar (not stocked) and bar accessories, flatscreen TV with a great sound system and an extensive DVD collection, a computer with internet access, and a cozy fireplace that is always roaring. This room is extremely cozy and feels just like home. It is the basement that everyone wishes they had. The morning breakfasts were the best start of our busy day out and about. Thank you Button Wood for an amazing stay in North Conway!

What's not to like. The inn is situated up the hill from the city, which allows for a quiet, peaceful setting with fantastic views. There are photos in the inn of encounters with moose, black bears, and humming birds. There is a series of trails in the back that lead part way up the hill. My wife and I snowshoed and bushwhacked our way up to the top of the cliff to capture a magnificent view of Cathedral and Whitehorse Ledges. There is also a pool and a hot tub in the back, the later of which is open in the winter. The rooms are all nice (we peeked into a few other than our own) and cozy. The inn also has two very nice common rooms with natural fireplaces. Breakfast could not have been better. Mixed fruit juices and coffee to drink. For the two breakfasts we had, we enjoyed cranberry scones or a fresh fruit salad to start, and a cheese omelet with baked squash, or homemade yeast-risen waffles with a high-grade warm maple syrup and the best sausage I ever had to finish. Bill and Paula spared no expense. We found the maple syrup be sold in town afterward and it was very expensive. Bill and Paula were very helpful in helping us choose a restaurant or finding our way around town. My wife and I were astounded that we had the whole inn to ourselves, but enjoyed the privacy while we enjoyed a glass of wine out in the hot tub in the evening. I honestly can't think of anything critical of our stay. Too short?

Bill and Paula are great innkeepers. They are genuine people who seem to love what they do. We stayed in Room 10 which has a jacuzzi in the bathroom and a nice sitting area in front of a propane fireplace. Having trails for hiking and snowshoeing right in their backyard was great for us as these are activities that we love. Saw 2 deer and a flock of wild turkeys on our second snowshoe trip. The Inn, although feeling secluded, is close to many, many great restaurants and shopping. We looked forward to the breakfasts that Paula cooks each morning and the suggestions from Bill about what to do in the area. A great inn to keep on your "must visit again" list.

My girlfriends and I decided that it would be nice to get away for a girls weekend away and we decided to travel from New Jersey to New Hampshire. One of my girlfriends suggested the Buttonwood Inn, since she stayed there last year. We had a wonderful time!!!! The innkeepers Bill and Paula were warm and friendly and made us feel at home as soon as we arrived. The Inn itself was very quaint with pretty decorated gathering rooms with fireplaces, a ding area where we ate breakfast each morning and another large room with a refrigerator, bar, fireplace and TV/DVD player where we gathered in front of the fireplace to talk, watch movies and play games. We stayed in a nice sized cozy bedroom, with its own bathroom, which was were very clean and nicely decorated. Breakfast each day was scrumptious and homemade. My girlfriends and I ventured in to the town of North Conway and shopped at little quaint shops, in addition to hitting all of the outlets. Unfortunately, it rained a good portion of the weekend we were there, but we managed to take a little hike one morning behind the Inn, which I enjoyed greatly. I would recommend staying at the Buttonwood for lots of reasons; the relaxing atmosphere, the warm hospitality of the innkeepers Bill and Paula, the scrumptious breakfast, the great shopping and the pretty outdoors. It was a very enjoyable weekend with good friends and good times!!!!!!!

We were welcomed into this delightful Inn by Bill Petrone, who together with his wife Paula, own and run the Buttonwood. This 1820's farmhouse has a cosy, homely feel and there is always a wonderful aroma of home baking. Our deluxe bedroom was delightul, featuring a brick chimney-breast and floral wall mural. Comfy chairs and lamps gave it a welcoming feel, and there were delightful views to the front and rear garden and pool, The ensuite was bright and everywhere spotlessly clean. Breakfast was a feast of Paula's home-made delights e.g. banana/coconut bread with maple cream cheese followed by sundried tomato omlette with mozarella and parmesan cheese and roasted butternut squash! We enjoyed exploring this beautiful part of New Hampshire and were fortunate to experience the Fryeburg Fair (the largest agricultural show in NH) on woodcutters day. We also took the scenic train ride through Mt Washington Valley and saw the glorious autumn colours. How lovely to arrive back late afternoon to Paula's cookies and a lovely hot cup of tea! On the computer, downstairs in the snug, we were able to view Bill's photos of their visiting black bear, humming birds and the red squirrel. All in all a lovely stay, cared for by charming, attentive and informative hosts. Phil & Barbara Rice, England

Guests can make full use of a large sitting room and an additional room where there is a computer with free internet access. Guests can also use the outside pool and sauna, but we visited at the wrong time of the year (late fall). The breakfast room is very pleasant and there was a different, well-prepared breakfast on offer every day. We had a lovely 2 night stay at The Buttonwood Inn, North Conway. The hospitality was wonderful, a real home from home. We and our 2 children (age 6 and 13) were made to feel very welcome. Our family room was lovely, 2 separate beds for the children which is a bonus. The room was exceptionally clean. Although the weather was not kind my son still made good use of the pool which had lots of toys and was also very clean. The Inn has lots of room to relax with a pleasant lounge, and another lounge in the basement with lots of DVDs and internet access. Everything had been thought of, nothing was too much trouble. The other guests were friendly and a happy hour or two was spent chatting on the covered porch watching the hummingbirds. The breakfasts were great, beautifully cooked as were the afternoon cakes. The Inn is set away from the hustle and bustle of North Conway which is nice but close enough to go shopping or get an evening meal. I would recommend this Inn to anyone. The only negative was we didn't get to meet the Bear!

It was a great pleasure! Tamar and Mark Netanel, Tel Aviv , Israel

We throughly enjoyed staying at The Buttonwood Inn because it was so relaxing and peaceful. Our room was pretty and cozy. Sitting on the porch drinking tea before we had the fabulous homemade French Toast breakfast, was special. We liked the variety of places both in and out of the house that we could relax. Wonderful selection of movies. With a computer and wifi at one's disposal it made finding places to go convenient. We will be going back in the winter to ski so The Buttonwood Inn is where we will be.

We had stayed at the Buttonwood under previous owners and now under Bill and Paula. Our stay was wonderful. Wish we had more time to enjoy the ambiance but they are excellent hosts. We tried another inn up the road from Buttonwood a few years ago and heard unsettling sounds (like mice or bats) coming from the attic. We left in the middle of the night, not realizing there were no managers on site. Please try Buttonwood and you will not be disappointed!

A beautiful setting for a peaceful weekend get away. We were sorry we just missed a visit from a black bear, but Bill caught it on tape and will probably show you! The lovely flowers, trees and hummingbirds made us feel comfortably close to nature. Bill and Paula's hospitality and breakfasts made us feel welcome and pleasantly full. A delightful visit!

When we decided to look for a hotel near North Conway, we couldn't have been luckier! The house was built in the early 19th century in a wonderful place surrounded by nature. Rooms are really cozy, nicely furnished and very clean. The place is very quiet and perfect to relax both inside (2 big sitting rooms, one with a beautiful piano, the other with internet and a great selection of dvd's) and outside (you can sip your coffee on a rocking chair under the porch!). There's also an outdoor pool and a hot tub. We slept soundly and the morning after had a delicious breakfast with sausages, waffles and pumpkin bread! Bill and Paula, the owners of the Inn, are so nice and warm and try in every way to make you feel at home. If you plan to go to the North Conway area there's no better place than the Buttonwood Inn to go!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Buttonwood Inn. Our room was light and cheerful and very comfortable. Meals were delicious. Paula is an excellent cook! We appreciated having a computer available in the recreation room. There were also DVD's to watch, books to read, and games and puzzles. Paula and Bill are fun to talk with and very helpful. They have a lovely pool and perennial gardens. It is conveniently located in the White Mountains and the bicycling and hiking activities we enjoy. The setting is beautiful and very peaceful. And it is not far from a large number of excellent restaurants.

My husband and I have visited the Buttonwood Inn many times. Out most recent stay was this past January. We wanted to take one last getaway before our fist child comes this March. We stumbled upon the Buttonwood Inn by chance several years ago. We took our first vacation there and instantly fell in love with the place. My husband brought me back there to propose the following year and we return on that anniversary every year. We love that it is so close to all the wonderful shopping and restuarants in North Conway, yet the Inn is so quite and peaceful. We often visit in the winter months so it's nice to wake up often to snow falling outside. We also chose the Buttonwood Inn for our first wedding anniversary. We were able to visit the Inn during the summer and the scenery is just as beautiful! The innkeepers are wonderful people and make you feel right at home. The breakfast is delicious and is a wonderful treat to wake up to every morning. The Buttonwood Inn will always remain a favorite place for us to stay.

We stayed at the Buttonwood Inn during mid October 2007. We were warmly greeted by the owners, Bill and Paula, on arrival and this friendly welcome extended for the whole 4 day stay. The food provided was excellent and my wife's food allergy was catered for well. The Inn is located in a tranquil woodland, but close enough to the main road to make it easy to get into town. Although our room was basic, it was homely and comfortable. We loved the area and the roads amongst the White Mountains. The autumn colours were as beautiful as we had hoped and there was also many interesting attractions in the area such as several scenic, old-style railways. We would love to visit the area again and we would be happy to stay at the Buttonwood Inn

Wonderful place for a quiet winter stay. The grounds out back were perfect for snowshoeing (plus more intense trails just a few miles down the road). We definitely recommend the Buttonwood Inn

You cna hike, snowshoe or cross country ski from the inn. The room was spaciuos clean and very comfortable. Breakfasts were all home made. The tea and pastries each afternoon were excellent. The inn keepers were very personable and full of great ideas. We will return to the Buttonwood Inn again the future.

We have stayed at the Buttonwood Inn several times. The innkeepers, Jeffrey and Elizabeth give us a warm welcome each time we visit. Each of the five different rooms we've stayed in have been beautifully decorated and furnished. The rooms have views of the landscaped grounds and/or the nearby mountains. We adore Elizabeth's bountiful breakfasts--the blueberry crumble french toast and creme brulee french toast are favorites! Sitting by the fire for afternoon treats is a great place to enjoy the serenity of the inn or to meet others and share stories. The special touches, such as toiletries in the room, flowers for our anniversary, or helping to arrange for a surprise birthday cake make this inn feel like home. In additon, Jeffrey's dinner and snowshoeing/hiking recommendations have been perfect for us. We have enjoyed getting to know Elizabeth and Jeffrey. The Buttonwood Inn is a peaceful retreat that we recommend others to try.

It's hard to find anything to say that hasn't already been said by other reviewers! When Jeffrey showed me my room I just smiled. I had stayed in only one other B&B, which was nice, but wow--I just knew I was in a good place. The attention to little details is what makes this place fabulous rather than just great. And to be welcomed with a little gift basket! The grounds are amazing and while I wasn't able to use the swimming pool because it was raining while I was there, it sure looked beautiful. Breakfasts were delicious and well presented. The only thing that was somewhat disappointing for me was that you dined at individual tables. While a real plus for couples on a get-away, I missed the camaraderie around the breakfast table where you got to know other guests and discuss sightseeing opportunities and plans. I highly recommend the Buttonwood Inn for any kind of vacation/get-away..

The Richards are proud to be in the Select Registry, and deservibly so. They are warm and gracious hosts. The location is restful and incredibly picturesque nestled in the mountains. And the house and grounds are beautiful. Elizabeth has added so many special touches to make the place homey, yet elegant as well. Hot tea and homemade cookies were waiting us each afternoon. Jeffrey made suggestions about where to dine. Each place he recommended was as he described. They know the area well and so can assist in where and what to do and see. We would definately return.

Our two day stay was the perfect post-Christmas getaway. We stayed in the Buttonwood Inn's finest Room, #10. The room photo on their website does not do it justice; it was perfect. Our room was clean, warm, spacious and complete with all necessary ammenities. Breakfasts were outstanding as were the inn-keepers, Jeffrey and Elizabeth. Because it was our first stay in a bed and breakfast, we were hesitant but our privacy was never compromised. Jeffrey and Elizabeth were incredibly kind, respectful, and welcoming. We will absolutely recommend the Buttonwood Inn to our friends and family looking for a romantic weekend or simply to escape. We can't wait to go back!
