This was quite a charming inn, with great amenities... atrium hot tub, pub with darts/pool table and games on site, and delicious breakfasts. However, the only things that kept me from giving it top rating were such small things! It's a shame, with just a few touches it could be top rate. The afternoon "goodies" served I didn't deem even to be worth the calories, sorry to say. The lemon bars were the only one that tasted fresh or homemade. Now the warm spiced cider WAS delicious. As for the room, it was delightful, but our "mountain view" also included a parking lot view, and car alarms were going off early a.m., not very romantic, but what can ya do ? However, we chose this room, since as there were two of us, it included two chairs to sit by the fire.. unfortunately the rocking chair I had looked forward to has seen better days and was not comfy. I also had the opportunity to check out another room, and of the two chairs in it, one was practically falling apart and obviously not for sitting on, so there was no place to sit other than the beds, basically. Luckily, the inn was not full when I booked, so I asked for (and received, with no hassle) a discounted rate, and truthfully, that is about as high as I would have wanted to go for the room. Chris was delightful in every way!! Great service, smiling and helpful all the way!! There were numerous helpful boooks/mags about things to do, where to eat, etc. and the 24/7 coffee/tea was great, as well as fridge to store any snacks, ice, etc. Overall it was enjoyable and cozy but just a bit more attention to detail would have enhanced the experience so much more. there were candles in the pub, etc. but none were ever lit that I saw, no fresh flowers or any special touches, but again, I would recommend it. We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay at the Inn at Ellis River in Jackson, NH and are looking forward to returning for a future visit. We should note for others reading this review that while we provide fresh baked cookies and seasonal beverages each afternoon, we offer the informal hors d'oeuvres you mentioned on a much less regular basis to celebrate special events such as New Year’s, our Inn-to-Inn Spring Herb Tour, Jackson’s Memorial Day Weekend Wildquack Festival, our Inn-to Inn Holiday Cookie Tour, etc. Thank you for your review and we look forward to welcoming you back!

My now fiance and I went to the Inn at Ellis River last Thanksgiving weekend, and stayed in the Thoreau Room from 11/23/07 to 11/25/07. Lyn and Frank (and their daughter-I cannot remember her name!) were the best hosts imaginable! The room was beautiful, cozy, warm, and very comfortable. We joked around that we were staying at Grandma and Grandpa's, because everytime we came back from an outing, they were waiting with tea, coffee, cookies, and other treats. Breakfast was amazing-Lyn is a fabulous cook! Our recommendations are her bacon and the stuffed french toast. When we left, it was very hard to say goodbye. I hope during your stay you will write about your experience in the guest journal that they provide for each room at the inn. Everything was worth it while we were there. And if we can afford it (although the prices are very right), we will be going back for our honeymoon next October, if not, we will at least spend two nights there. Thanks Lyn and Frank! :)

We're from New England (Connecticut) and decided we wanted the quintessential Northeastern autumn experience for our honeymoon. We couldn't have been happier with our decision to stay in Jackson (after having passed some of the other locations we were considering on the way), and loved our experience at the Inn at Ellis River.
In fairness, we stayed in what I believe to be the best room at the inn (the Pearl Cascade room), though Christine was nice enough to give us the grand tour of the unoccupied rooms. They all had that quaint B&B charm, but our room had the 3-sided gas fireplace, the 2-person jacuzzi overlooking the river AND the charm. It really was incredible.
Lyn and Frank are tremendous hosts, and are always ready with helpful advice, be it where to hike, where to go for dinner, or what shot to take in pool. Christine and Laureen were as helpful as could be, and do yourself a favor and say hi to Ginger in the office when you go. I'm not sure how many more 5 star reviews the Inn at Ellis River needs, but add ours! We'll be sure to come back next time we're in the White Mountains. View Reviewer Info

Our rooms are decorated in a very traditional style, which we realize may not be to everyone’s taste. We are sorry that your bathroom was a bit of a disappointment. Nine of our rooms have jetted tubs for two, while ten have standard tubs. We try to post photos and room descriptions that are clear on our web site and group our accommodations with jetted tubs for two separately. We regret there may have been some misunderstanding about the room you selected.

This was the second visit to the Inn for me and my husband. I took him there last year for his birthday and, before we had even checked out, he said he wanted to return the following year for his birthday! We just returned from another romantic weekend in the mountains!
We love the Ellis River Cottage because you feel like you are all alone even though you are only across the parking lot from the rest of the Inn! The jacuzzi is wonderful and relaxing after a day of shopping. The bed is SO comfortable that you never want to leave...especially with the CD playing Mendolsohn and a fire lit in the fireplace! What could be better (OR more romantic) on a rainy Saturday afternoon?
Lyn, Frank and Christine are some of the warmest, friendliest, most welcoming people you could ever meet! They make you feel like you are visiting their home. I always ask for the fruit and cheese platter, as well as wine and a cake for my husband's birthday and they are always more than happy to acommodate me. Everything is waiting for us in the cottage when we arrive. These innkeepers are the best you will ever encounter! They'll even help you plan your day or recommend a great place for dinner if you need advice. We could not have chosen a better, more romantic place to stay and we will be returning to the Inn at Ellis River for many more romantic visits in the future!

P.S. Lyn, I don't know WHAT you do to that bacon, but I could eat a pound!! The gourmet breakfast that you get each morning is unbelievable!! KUDOS to Lyn (and Frank!) Thanks View Reviewer Info

I brought my girlfriend to Inn at Ellis River for a Valentine's / Birthday gift. I don't really care much for the Bed and Breakfast sort of trip, so I was planning to grin and tolerate the experience for my girlfriend's sake. But I must say that our stay at the Inn at Ellis River really exceeded my expectations. Lyn, Frank, and Christine were incredibly helpful with reservations for wherever we wanted to dine or whatever we wanted to do. Skiing, snowshoeing, snow tubing, even dog sled riding are within an easy distance. The room was very nice, I especially enjoyed the fireplace and jacuzzi in our room after a cold day out in the snow. Breakfast was a highlight of my stay there. They have two options: savory, which my girlfriend strongly prefers, and sweet, which was perfect for me. I would not hestitate at all to book another weekend there the next time we visit Jackson. We spent President's Day weekend at The Inn at Ellis River and enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. The inn was charming - beautiful setting on the river - well appointed and very comfortable. The Basin room is in the older part of the inn with a beautiful view of the river and mountains from the windows on three sides. Big comfortable king size bed.
The breakfasts were outstanding - they start with delicious coffee cakes (one we loved included coconut, mango, pineapple and other exotic fruits) followed by (on various days), baked French toast, frittata, etc. Cookies in the afternoon, delicious coffee all day. A bar in the game room serving good wines and cordials. Superb.
They also have a number of puzzles, games, a pool table, darts to while away a quiet hour or two (if you're not out cross country or downhill skiing).
Lyn, Frank and Christine are very friendly and helpful - they are knowledgeable about nearby restaurants, activities, etc.
The inn is located nearby Jackson Ski Foundation (crosscountry skiing mecca), the Thompson House Eatery (delicious) and a number of other Jackson restaurants.
Highly recommended. View Reviewer Info

Prior to arriving, I had frequented the Inn's web site in anticipation of a long over due vacation. This was the perfect place to unwind and be pampered! The cottage overlooking the Ellis River was delightful! It was warm, cozy, private and romantic. We enjoyed the private patio and watched the stars every night while listening to the sounds of the river!Lyn and Frank were warm and friendly, and made us feel at "home"! Their added little touches meant so much. I especially looked forward to breakfast every morning, kudos to " chef Lyn"!! We turned into "cookie monsters" in the afternoons and could hardly wait to see what delicious treats Lyn and the staff had prepared!!We enjoyed visiting many waterfalls, browsing quaint little shops and Mount Washington.I would have to say Jackson Falls was my favorite water fall of all. We spent hours there climbing over granite rocks and splashing my feet in the cool water, what a peaceful place! I loved it so much, we went there twice! We enjoyed relaxing on the Inn's grounds, spending time reading in adirondack chairs overlooking the river and also swimming in the pool!
We are hoping to send my daughter and son-in-law here for a romantic getaway when he returns safely from Iraq.
We are looking forward to returning in the winter season to enjoy the snow and relax by the fireplace in the cottage!
We stayed five days, and it wasn't long enough! View Reviewer Info

Inn at Ellis River is truly a gem in the White Mountains. The property is beautiful inside and out, and immaculately kept, but the true treasures are the Innkeepers. Lyn and Frank helped us plan our wedding "long-distance" and enabled us to make our dream a reality, even finding our favorite cheeses and making our favorite hors d'ouevres for the reception! (I think if they could have held off the rain on Saturday, they would! As it turns out, we moved the ceremony inside by a candlelit fireplace, and it was wonderfully romantic -- possibly even better than the planned gazebo overlooking the river!) Our closest family members joined us for the ceremony and reception at the Inn, and all have told us how truly impressed they were by the gracious hospitality of the staff and the easy elegance of the event. Lyn, Frank, and Christine were truly wonderful, and made us feel like we were the only guests at the Inn during the busy 4th of July week and weekend!
The amenities at the Inn at Ellis River are simply superb. The rooms are gorgeous! The service is amazing! The breakfasts are consistently outstanding! The picnic lunch is delicious! The pub room is fun, and the puzzles by the piano are endlessly entertaining!
We are planning to spend our first anniversary back at the Inn, and cannot wait to return! The trip from Long Island will be well worth it!
We most highly recommend Inn at Ellis River! View Reviewer Info
