We stayed at Melville House, an extremely well located property, in the heart of Newport's colonial district for three nights, in late April. The House is actually a genuine colonial inn dating from around 1750. It was wonderful to stay in such an historic, beautifully restored and maintained colonial structure. The inn is owner occupied. We can not say enough about the genuine warmth and hospitality of the inn's owners and their two delightful little shih tzu dogs. Our room had every amenity we needed, the location was quiet, and the hearty breakfasts each morning were superb.

We found this bed and breakfast in the AAA book a few years ago. We have stayed there 4 times now. The first time we stayed there by ourselves but each time since we have brought different family members and everyone has raved about the place and have said they can't wait to return for another visit. The last time we booked all 7 rooms for our daughter's wedding, which took place in Sept.. We have always felt as though we were staying with family when we go there. Bob and Priscilla, the innkeepers, helped us with the last minute details of the wedding and made the entire wedding party feel so incredibly comfortable. Bob and Priscilla are just the warmest, kindest people. The Melville House is incredibly clean. The breakfast that is made each day is absolutely delicious! The bake goods put out each afternoon is something to really look forward to. There is such a feeling of contentment and peacefulness in the Melville House. The location is perfect for those without a car. It is right in the middle of the Historic Section and close to the bus stop for the mansions. When we go to Newport we would never stay anywhere else but at the Melville House. It was a GREAT find!!!
