My husband and I stayed for 2 nights in the Michaelis room to celebrate our 5 year anniversary. We had never been to Texas Hill Country before, nor had we ever stayed at a B&B, but we had an absolutely wonderful time! Even though the weather was less than ideal (mostly cold & rainy, at the end of January) it didn't ruin our trip at all. It just gave us an excuse to take advantage of the amazing fireplace, the heavenly king-sized feather bed, and the whirlpool tub where we took a long relaxing bubble bath. Although the price can seem a bit expensive at first, considering that a delicious breakfast, dinner and not to mention free cookies and sodas/drinks throughout the day are included, I believe you fully get your money's worth and then some. And I'm sure most people wouldn't want to admit it but if you're like me and the thought of sharing your meals with complete strangers can seem a little daunting at first don't worry- it will end up being one of the best and most memorable parts of your trip- at least it was for us. We met so many wonderful, generous people, most of whom had been coming to the Inn for many, many years, and they truly made our stay extra special. Believe the reviews- they're all raves for a reason. We can't wait to come back again in the Spring/Summer when we can take better advantage of the hiking trails and beautiful scenery, and maybe try a different room. Although we absolutely loved the Michaelis, each room is so different and has it's own character, we'd love to eventually try them all!

This was the perfect place to chase the midwinter blues for our girls' getaway. This was our first time to stay at an Inn and now we are spoiled. I don't even want to consider staying at a hotel anymore. This was the most restful and relaxing trip we have ever been on. The setting is so peaceful and the views are incredible. I couldn't stop looking out the window of our third floor room. The price seems high at first, but when you take into consideration the breakfast and dinner that is included you will probably come out even. The food is fantastic!! They have complimentary sodas, tea, water, and even cookies and brownies, that are available all day and night. The staff are all very friendly and even though there were several people staying there the same time we were, we were able to hike the trails and sit under the pergola in the garden all alone. The dining room is very comfortable and with the fire going it makes for a cozy setting to your 3 course gourmet dinner. We will definitely go back. Oh yeah, indulge yourself and get a spa treatment. My husband and I got side by side massages and it was wonderful. You can take books and movies (or use what they have in the library) and just stay at the Inn the whole time and relax, or go to the nearby towns and shop or check out the many winerey's. Highly recommend this Inn.

Our weekend stay at the Inn was excellent. We spend two nights and stayed in two different rooms. Both rooms were well decorated with high quality linens, a spa tub, and overall just very comfortable. The property is gorgeous with great walking trails and offers a very relaxing atmosphere. My husband and I both enjoyed the truly goumet breakfasts, dinners, and the snacks inbetween. We stayed at another B&B recently and it did not even compare to the Inn Above Onion Creek! We cannot wait to visit again!

We found the Inn Above Onion Creek to be one of the most relaxing and enjoyable stays we've ever had. Maurice's cottage was more than we hoped for - very roomy, beautifully decorated with a very comfortable bed with very high quality sheets, etc - our only dissapointment was that there was a fair amount of hair in the bathroom that was far to long to be mine or my husband's but otherwise it appeared to be clean. The service was excellent - the staff put our dinner on a tray for us when we called saying we would arrive after 6:00, the dinner start time. All meals were substantial and delicious and the massages we got at the spa were terrific. Our confirmation letter mentioned that a bouquet of fresh garden flowers would be waiting and unless it was the very small arrangement on the mantle, this didn't happen - a little dissapointing. The grounds were natural and lovely, and we took several long walks around the property which runs along Onion Creek. We were really pleased and strongly recommend staying here.

We were received in a very efficient professional manner and everything went up from there. We were traveling with our dog so had some concern of our accommodations; we stayed in Thelma's Cottage and it was perfect for us and our dog! We had plenty of space for his bed and items, as well as, had peace, quiet and enjoyed a feeling that we were the only one's on the property. Meals were delicious; we enjoyed stimulating conversation with other guests and time to kick back and relax. Lucky, our dog, loved it as he played and walked with the resident three-legged dog, Lee. In the morning, she lead on us on a fun hike on the trails, finding cattle, bunnies and deer. It was quite a morning for the city dog that he is! We definintely will look forward to another stay.

This Inn sits on 88 acres of land in the hill country in Texas and the trails to walk on and gardens to walk thru are magnificent. The dinner and breakfast is such a treat as you can bring your own wine from one of the wineries in the area for dinner. wow, i was not disappointed at all. We stayed in the "porter" room, which is a great room complete with a HUGE whirlpool/spa/hot tub. The dinner was fantastic, if you are going to stay here, make sure you don't miss dinner. There are nice trails around the area and some beautiful native Texas flowers in the garden. Even the 2 cats the "patrol" the grounds were friendly and helpful.

The food was excellent but the only suggestion I have is to replace the dining chairs with ones that are more comfortable. We loved the pool - perfect water temperature and being able to swim and look out over the hill country or swim at night under the stars was wonderful. So quiet you could hear the grass grow. Best place to be in seclusion, away from noise, traffic, crowds and just relax. Can't wait to go back!!

We've visited The Inn Above Onion Creek three times; we've stayed in a different room each time, and each time the experience is amazing. The location is perfect; so close to so many activities. As a Houstonian, it's nice that it's only a 3hr drive, and yet it's still far enough away that we can forget our day-to-day worries. And the gourmet meals don't hurt either! Each time we leave, I make new resolutions to come back and do the other things we missed (shop at the outlet mall, go antique-ing, zipline, horseback riding, visit the spa, etc.) I think it'll take quite a few visits to get everything done (which is perfectly fine by me)!

Overall our stay was restful and basically what I expected. We have stayed at inns before so I knew what to expect regarding the room, grounds, and service. All of that was as expected or even slightly better. The pool was wonderful and the spa was a definate plus. The location is also excellent for a hill country adventure. However it is not a place to eat if you don't eat meat. My husband loved the prime rib, BBQ chicken and ribs, and the breakfast selections. The vegetarian alternative for the BBQ Chicken and Ribs was only a tomato. You'd think since they had the BBQ going grill a portabello mushroom or a frozen veggie burger!!! I was so shocked at the mushy tomato that I was speechless. I "warned" them a week in advance it isn't like they couldn't have picked up some real alternatives. What's worse is they advertise themselves as being adaptable to your dinning needs!!! Which is why I picked it! So it's not a value for vegetarians as they can't even shell out the money for mushrooms. But if you are a meat eater you will enjoy the food. Except the desserts, I think they are afraid of sugar.

My wife and I stayed here for one day in May '09, while visiting our son's nearby wedding venue. I expected a nice place, but I was surprised at the luxurious, yet rustic, surroundings. The views of the Hill Country are breathtaking. I enjoyed a pre-breakfast walk on the hiling trails, in the cool, Spring air. We were in the least expensive room, and were very pleased. Well our daughter sent us to this unbelievable B&B. The ride into the property is so beautiful and filled with anticipation as to what the actual house looks like. We stayed in the suite that Emeril Lagasse stayed in. It was the most elegant suite we have ever stayed in. Very large living room and deck, upstairs a tastefully decorated king size bed and sitting area. The bathroom has a huge jacquizzi tub, double sinks, and a huge shower for 2. There is a great back porch area with willow wicker chairs to lounge in. The pool is immaculate and so refreshing. I have never been to a B&B that serves dinner.....it was so good and breakfast was incredible. I would highly recommend this B&B to everyone who is looking for TOTAL relaxation! We will be back

Very nice relaxing stay for our first anniversary. The rooms are huge and the views can't be matched. Food was great, but felt 8:30 start to hot breakfast a bit late. Coffee left a lot to be desired (should contract with Lucky Cup, best Americano I've ever had!). Large jacuzzi tub was great, but took 30 mins to fill (Hayes Room). Also, Hayes Room needs another comfy chair in sitting area so two can sit. Loved roaming the trails on the grounds, very peaceful. Overall a nice stay but too expensive for what you get.

The pros-- a lovely room with a nice big bath and separate shower. The duck confit was delicious. Fabulous thick fluffy towels. Yummy chocolate chip cookies and sodas/juice/tea/coffee always available. Beautiful grounds and friendly cats. The cons-- numerous dead bugs in the light fixture over the shower; shower head pointed ONLY straight down and was very narrow in the range of its spray; breakfast was disappointing (biscuits like hockey pucks, sausage gravy obviously made by a Yankee, fresh-squeezed OJ ruined by addition of melting ice)

Each year when my mom visits we stay at a different B&B. This one was among our best experiences. Staying in the Schlemmer room was like being in a tree house... the view was great and it was just fun to be there. The room was very clean, comfortable and lovely. Loved every moment at the Inn. My son and Grandsons live in the Hill Country area and came out for a visit while we were there. We spent part of the day hiking the trails. The meals were fabulous and the kitchen staff were so friendly and cooperative. We made sandwiches with our leftover prime rib for our departure day of travel. They let us take over the kitchen and it felt like being at home. The peace and quiet at the Inn and the beautiful gardens provided the best escape from the Minnesota winter. It was hard to leave this beautiful place and if a return visit is planned in the future, we will stay here again.

This was our fourth stay at Inn Above Onion Creek. We have stayed in the Nance Suite all other times, this time we stayed in the Kuykendall Suite......and I think we have a new favorite suite. We come back to the Inn for the peaceful surroundings, the beaty of the hill country, and the fellowship of the other guests. Dinners are almost always a highlight of our stay. The food is always terrific but I am referring more to the opportunity to meet others, share stories, discuss anything from religion, to politics, to sports or whatever is of interest. We spent a special weekend at the inn, celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary. We felt welcome from the moment of our arrival, and everyone was so friendly and accommodating. The grounds and the common rooms are lovely. The Nance Suite was extremely comfortable and relaxing, and the views from the large windows were incredible. The linens were of very high quality, and there were numerous added touches, such as the fresh flowers on the mantel, the gas fireplace, the selection of CD's and DVD's, the microwave and mini-fridge. The food was outstanding, and the chef was very accommodating as to vegetarian selections. Having access to a gourmet dinner on the premises added to the sense of relaxation -- no need to worry about reservations or driving to dinner each night. Lastly, the resident cats and the very friendly dog also add to the ambience! We plan to return soon.....

B&Bs are not all created equal, and The Inn Above Onion Creek excels in the best areas. Their genuine concern in making your stay as enjoyable as possible is admirable. We stayed in Thelma's Cottage which was almost perfect, almost because the spa is above, and napping was interrupted by pouncing sounds. A minor issue. Thelma's was a great value for two couples or a group of friends. It's the little things that set apart a great B&B. Extra pillows in the bedroom and living area, great linens and mattresses, stocked refrigerator with sodas and water, and convenient access to an ice machine and cookies made this a place to which we'll return.

We were ready for a quiet relaxing weekend to unwind and focus on each other. TIAOC turned out to be exactly the right place. The setting is very relaxed and the staff couldn't have been more accommodating. The inn keeper even kindly washed my new pair of jeans to facilitate our night out on the town in nearby Austin. I guess that says that TIAOC offers the choice of kicking back and "vegging" for the weekend or just being home base for more active excursions. We'll surely go back for more.

My girlfriends and I needed a weekend to get away from the same thing of working, cooking, cleaning, and etc... So we booked a weekend at the Thelma Cottage with girls, movies, and wine. The Inn is fantastic. The food was great, the rooms were very clean and comfortable. With all the amenities and the little things they think of to make your stay very comfortable, we will definitely be back. Now we are all rejuvenated and ready to tackle life again. Thanks to all that made it so wonderful!

Our stay was better than anything we could have asked for. Dinner was waiting for us when we arrived, we were given a tour of the property, and the room was so much more than we expected. At breakfast we finished our pitcher of freshly-squeezed orange juice, so the chef cheerfully brought us a new one. I also have a food allergy and they prepared my food especially for me without complaint/hesitation. My husband also loved the endless cookies! Our room was furnished with antiques, but everything was of 5-star cleanliness. We woke up to see the sunrise outside of our bedroom window - the views are amazing! We also took a short walk on the trail down to the creek. There was a breeze, so the whole time we smelled all sorts of fragrant flowers and trees. This is B&B is a must for a getaway with that special someone. The only bad thing was that we had to leave!

The Inn Above Onion Creek is a fantastic value for the money. The service and food were excellent. We stayed in Austin and ate at some "Fine Dining" establishments, but the food and service at the Inn were far better. The Chefs are amazing and everyone at the Inn made us feel like we were right at home. We would definately recommend the Inn Above Onion Creek to family and friends.

We just stayed at the Inn Above Onion Creek last weekend and it was the most enjoyable, relaxing vacation we've ever had. The rooms are wonderful, the food is amazing, and the view is spectacular. Better though is the wonderful service and atmosphere. The chef saw to our special dietary needs without even asking, the staff knew us by name without even having to introduce ourselves, I've never felt so welcome and comfortable before. I can't recommend this place enough. If you're looking for a weekend get away so comfortable and inviting that you won't want to leave your room, this is the place.

My husband and I have stayed at The Inn Above Onion Creek numerous times - over twenty, and maybe more than thirty. Certainly, this is testament to our enjoyment of the Inn. We are always treated with respect and feel pampered when we visit. What beautiful sunsets, a wonderful, colorful garden and better than ever rooms. Also, the food is delectable. I would describe them as a gourmet feast. I tell others about Inn Above Onion Creek on a consistent basis. What an oasis of indulgence, relaxation, beauty, pampering and fun.

The Inn Above Onion Creek is a wonderful oasis located just outside of Austin, TX. My wife and I have stayed at B&B's around the western US, but we have to pick this inn as our favorite. Not only does this B&B provide a better-than-advertised quiet tranquility in and around the inn, but it also includes dinner as well as breakfast in their dining room. It makes such a huge difference not having to drive anywhere to dine. And what food! The meals were exceptionally well prepared and tasty. Who would have thought such great food, elegant and comfortable accommodations, and relaxing atmosphere could all be found in Kyle, TX? We can't say enough great things about the Inn Above Onion Creek and our stay there. Thanks to the Dolans for giving us a wonderfully renewing weekend at your inn.

We came here for a weekend getaway for Valentine's Day and we had a lovely time. It is a nice cute bed and breakfast with great service and great food. It is situated quite near a few of the wineries in the area so makes for nice day trips out. The only critique would be the spa was a bit of a disappointment. The loft was small and there was not really privacy for the treatments as those entering for appts after you are separated from by only a silk screen. Also they contract out therapists from outside and depending who you get - the service could be iffy. My husband and I both got deep tissue massages and frankly, it was not at all deep tissue. We would recommend the inn and the stay and definitely bring friends next time, but wish they spent more time bringing their spa up to the quality of the rest of the inn. A larger space or offers of private spa treatments in the rooms would be a help as well as better massage therapists!

We spent our 29th wedding anniversary in the Kuykendall Suite and enjoyed every minute! The west view of sunset and early morning stillness were amazing. This Inn is everything you could hope for with perfect balance of solitude and good company. We will be back again and again.

We had a great visit to your Inn. We stayed at Thelmas cottage and enjoyed the living area with the lovely view. It felt like you were outdoors even though you were inside.The food was better this time than our last stay and the chef and kitchen help were very friendly and provided great service.

We've been to many other lovely places- including Costa Rica- but this is by far our favorite. Over the years we have learned to show up and enjoy the Inn until it is time to go and- most importantly- not to stop for lunch. No side trips are necessary. There are trails for wondering, people to meet at meals, and most of all wonderful tubs. Bathing becomes an activity. We tried the spa this last time and are going to make day trips to enjoy it. Yes, I'd rather go here than any other place- even exotic ones. It is luxurious, warm and relaxed. The feeling of life there is similar to the Big Island on Hawaii. We leave feeling peaceful, rested and always wishing for a longer stay. The Nance suite is my favorite. If you're reading this review stop reading and book now. It will change your life!

A group of friends met for a getaway weekend to relax and walk and putter around Wimberley. The Inn Above Onion Creek was really perfect for that because of the top-notch meals included for breakfast and dinner AND the pleasant spa on site. We had plenty of opportunity to go walking around the lovely grounds as well--not really hiking, but not "shop-walking" as one would in Wimberley. We were also pleased with the proximity to the Mandola winery, as visiting there was quite a bit of fun for Texans with no Napa Valley. Finally, the staff at Onion Creek was first-rate and very friendly, from the chef/servers to the proprieter, Amy Dolan. When we had any special needs, they were met pleasantly and quickly.

My wife and I wanted to get away for some down time away from the hustle and bustle of life. We found it at the Inn Above Onion Creek. It was so much better than even a high end hotel because of the privacy and intimacy of our stay. There were no distractions and no interruptions to our time. We found every part of our stay to be a wonderful experience, from the room to the dining, which was masterfully prepared and followed up by the chef to make sure we were enjoying it. The inclusiveness of the place is probably what impressed me the most, having the freedom to indulge in the cookie jar to soft drinks and even popcorn for the room. It was a joy to introduce some of our friends to this hill country experience. Your email newsletter cued us to an unanticipated, last minute getaway to one of our favorite inns. Our 3rd stay at the Inn was memorable but unfortunately for the wrong reason. The room (Nance Suite) was lovely & my wife & I were looking forward to our first winter stay at the Inn (even if it was 80 degrees on January 23rd!). We immediately noticed the nice upgrades like covered guest parking & "green" features throughout the Inn. Dinner was lovely (prime rib) & we were thoroughly enjoying the company of another couple & looking forward to relaxing throughout the weekend. Unfortunately my wife took severely ill late that night to the point that we had to visit the E.R. in San Marcos & obviously knew we would have to cut our stay short. When I explained our situation to the innkeeper the next morning her genuine concern for my wife's well being & her professionalism were both greatly appreciated. We were only billed for one night's stay (this was a weekend trip where 2-night stays are mandatory) & checkout details were handled with the maximum efficiency so we could back home as quickly as possible. Amy's chief concern was for my wife's well being & she wished her a speedy recovery & that we would visit them again soon. I assured her that we will indeed be back soon for a winter stay.

My husband and I scheduled our stay at the Inn as a late Christmas present to each other. Our plan was to sleep in, relax and do a whole lot of nothing. We were able to walk the paths and see the lovely sunset with the ever present tourguide-cat, Nigel. We watched movies in our super-soft-and-comfy bed at night, and snuggled in front of the cozy fire during the day. Our room was absolutely lovely and totally modern while maintaining an historic charm. We enjoyed gourmet dinners and wonderful breakfasts. On our last day we decided to splurge on massages for both of us. The masseurs at the Spa were professional, friendly, lovely women and we left there even more relaxed than we thought possible. We were already familiar with the surrounding Hill Country so we didn't do a lot of exploring, but there is so much to do within a very short drive that even adventurous travelers will have a great time - wineries, olive farms, antique shopping, food. There really is LOTS to do if you want. Personally, we were quite happy to sit still for a while, enjoy the scenery and indulge in a bit of paradise for a few days.

The Inn Above Onion Creek always provides what I need. We have stayed here in several different rooms and we have enjoyed them all. This last stay was so perfect. I needed time to prepare for something important and their location and surroundings are always so serene and inspiring. I look forward to our next stay and hope it can be for a couple of nights.
