Come and enjoy hiking, biking, swimming, mountain lakes and rivers, fly and stream fishing, rock climbing, skiing, snowshoeing, snow boarding, cross country skiing, ice skating, fine dining, wineries and wine tasting, gambling, antiquing, live theatre, shopping, free summer concerts and movies, museums, golf, tennis, horse back riding, wild life and mountain birds. 3 hours from San Francisco, Oakland and the Bay Area Peninsula. 2 hours from Fresno and Sacramento.

We have stayed at McCaffrey House several times and totally enjoy the experience. The innkeepers are friendly and helpful and love taking care of their visitors. The rooms are lovely and each one is different. The house is welcoming and warm. We a have a different breakfast each morning which includes fresh fruit, eggs or bread pudding, bacon or sausage and delicious coffee. We stayed at McCaffrey's for Thanksgiving weekend and Stephanie and Michael were so gracious and friendly. We had a very cozy stay, with the fireplace in our room and a very welcoming environment. The breakfast was delicious. It was like family. Loved it. We visited Sonora - vintage shops and restaurants and hiked around the Pine Crest Lake. Wonderful stay.

What a fantastic place!!! My wife and I tried it out for a few days for our anniversary getaway and the weekend couldn't have been better. Michael, Stephanie and Marlene were all fantastic hosts...great to chat with, friendly and fun. And the doggies were sooooo nice!! We wanted to take them home with us (the dogs, lol!). The house was spotless, the rooms were comfy, the morning breakfasts were delicious and perfect, and the atmosphere was very relaxing. We will definitely be coming back to Twain Harte to visit soon, and we'll be staying at the McCaffrey House again!!! We love finding spots like this!

MCCAFFREY HOUSE BREAD PUDDING Oven @325 degrees Serves 8-10 people 4 T maple flavored syrup 1 ½ cups firmly packed brown sugar (2 handfuls) 1 ½ cubes of butter Cut bread in cubes so as to come to the top of the 9x12 Pyrex dish (You may use any kind of bread, hotdog buns, left over rolls, French bread – whatever. If you don’t have leftover bread, I use a Safeway brand called French Toast Bread – one loaf fills the Pyrex dish.) 8 eggs 3 cups milk 1 ½ Teaspoon vanilla extract Combine syrup, brown sugar and butter in a small heavy saucepan and heat, stirring until bubbly. Pour syrup mixture in a 9x12” pan. Cut up bread in small squares and place on top of the syrup. Mix together eggs, milk, and vanilla in the blender. Pour over the bread. Push down mixture with your hands. Cover the pan and refrigerate overnight. The next morning, remove the pan from the refrigerator and discard the cover. Place pan in a preheated oven and bake for 45 minutes to an hour – I place the dish on a cookie sheet to avoid having it bubble over in the oven. After removing from the oven, if you like, you may cover the cooked bread with butter before going to the next step. To serve, loosen edges of bread from pan sides with the blade of a knife or a thin bladed spatula. Invert the pan onto a cutting board or cookie sheet so that the caramelized portion of the Bread Pudding is on top. Cut and place on plates and top with dab of whipped cream.
