As the original front parlor, a remarkable feature of the room is the Ben Franklin type fireplace insert which warmed the home much more efficiently than just a fireplace. This stove, the marbleized slate mantle, 11 foot ceilings with both crown and chair moldings lend an appropriate period touch to the decor of this dramatic room which is lit by original wall lights and an antique pewter chandelier. For your comfort, this room has been equipped with a burl wood four poster king size bed, ensuite double size Jacuzzi bath with twin shower-heads, and a private half bath.
The English Library was the second of the formal parlors in the home. This room features beautiful encased book shelves to either side of the marbleized slate fireplace. An 11 foot ceiling with a beautiful antique pewter chandelier highlights the queen size sleigh bed. A separate half bath with double vanity accompanies an ensuite double Jacuzzi with twin shower-heads which can be enjoyed under light from the chandelier. A flat-screen TV and BluRay player provide your entertainment and the stocked refrigerator provides your beverages.
Probably our most popular suite, Anna Woods is at the back of the house on the first floor. It comprises two rooms, each room having its own private bathroom, work area, its own refrigerator, and its own cable TV with BluRay player. The first room has a queen four poster bed and a beautiful bathroom with soaking tub, jetted shower, and vessel sink incorporated into the original china cabinet. The second bedroom with a full-size bed has both a connecting door with the first room and its own external access from the patio. This bedroom's bathroom is equipped with a shower with rainfall head.
This spacious front bedroom on the second floor is the jewel of the home and was the bedroom of the Ewing twins in the “new” part of the home built in the 1820s. The room (walls and ceiling) was papered with the present rose design in the 1930s when the boys were in grade school. The wide plank yellow pine floorboards highlight the scrollwork on the queen size bed. The adjoining bathroom features the early 1900s floor tiles and claw foot bathtub with shower.
Unlike a typical hotel or motel, our rooms are individually furnished to fit the history of both the home and Historic Carlisle, PA. This second floor room was the bedroom of Jessie Ewing from 1927 until she left the home in 1965. With a beautiful queen bed, It features painted yellow pine flooring, original lighting fixtures and an ornamental fireplace, with a closet in one nook, and a shelved closet on the other side of the fireplace. The adjoining bathroom has a spectacular MAAX shower with 6 body jets and a seat with 10 back jets!
Named for Carlisle’s heroine Mary Hays McCauly, commonly known as Molly Pitcher, the large third floor room front windows look out toward the old Carlisle Graveyard in which she is buried. It features two decorative queen size iron beds, a love seat, and of course all the other modern amenities to enhance your stay. A private bathroom with 5ft jetted shower adjoins the room.
The Blair Room is a queen bed room with interior access, and its own private entrance from the rear and a door to the balcony for relaxing outside. It features a ceiling fan and a private bathroom with spa jetted shower. A work area, flat screen TV with BluRay player, and a stocked refrigerator add even more amenities to this delightful room.
One of our four multi-roomed suites, Bailey on the second floor comprises 670 square feet of space with a sitting room with flat screen TV and BluRay player, bedroom with queen bed and daybed, a second bedroom with two twin beds, and a private bathroom with shower. A kitchen complete with a ceramic-top range, dishwasher, and full-size refrigerator makes this suite perfect for both brief and extended stays.
The Hayes Suite has two queen bedrooms with a connecting door, and a private bath room with glass enclosed shower. Situated on the second floor at the rear, this suite is extremely popular with families of high-school students visiting Dickinson College just four blocks away. Each room has its own flat screen TV with BluRay player. The first room features a burl wood four poster queen bed enhanced by elegant floral blue bedding, while the adjacent sterling blue bedroom features a fluted iron queen bed with deep red bedding and acorn brown carpet giving it a warm glow.
Located on the third floor, Penn Suite is the largest of our suites, almost 1000 square feet. It comprises two large bedrooms each with a queen bed, a beautiful bathroom with natural light from the skylight above, a fully-equipped kitchen that includes a washer/dryer, full ceramic-top range, dishwasher, and full-size refrigerator, and a sitting room with work area, easy chair, settee, and flat screen cable TV with Blu-Ray player.

We stayed 2 nights at the Carlisle House and loved everything about it! Mary and Alan were such wonderful hosts and keep this place running like a well-oiled machine. The room, accommodations, and breakfast were all amazing. We will definitely be staying here again if we are ever back in the area! The Carlisle House quickly made our "Top 5" best places that we've ever stayed. Thank you!!

Booking a last minute visit to my niece at nearby Dickinson college, we decided to use our Bed and Breakfast gift card to pay for our stay. When I had trouble booking it through the website I contacted the Carlisle House directly, and Mary and Alan opened up another room for us specifically so we could book it through the B and B .com website (a requirement for our gift card)...that was only the beginning of their outstanding service. The room was beautiful, and Mary and Alan helped us out with where to dine in town, even offering to call ahead to speak with restaurant owners about my special dietary needs. Breakfast was also delicious, and before checkout we spent nearly an hour chatting with Mary and Alan about the town of Carlisle and being in the Bed and Breakfast business in general, something I've always been interested in. Needless to say, we had a wonderful stay and will be visiting them again soon.

We just stayed for the second time at the Carlisle House but it won't be our last visit! Everything about this B&B is lovely and welcoming. The Innkeepers/Owners, Mary and Alan, are a delightful couple and extremely helpful in suggesting restaurants (of which there are many!), sights to see, events at Dickinson College, and all things Carlisle, PA. The breakfasts are delicious and the atmosphere conducive to lingering over just one more cuppa!

Absolutely fantastic place in Carlisle, PA. Mary and Alan were extremely gracious hosts and the quiche Alan prepared at breakfast will not soon be forgotten. I highly recommend this place if you are looking for a comfortable B&B while exploring central Pennsylvania.

A lovely warm welcome awaits guests arriving at Carlisle House. The beds are the most comfortable I have slept in anywhere. The breakfasts are wonderful and every preference is catered for as far as humanly possible. I have just returned from my 3rd visit and am already looking forward to my 4th visit in 2014. Alan and Mary Duxbury are wonderful hosts and run a superb Guest House. Chris Couldridge, Somerset, UK.

My husband and I stayed 2 nights at the Carlisle House. Mary and Allan were gracious and welcoming. From our warm welcome at the front door, to assistance with our luggage, and every amenity in between (and I mean every amenity), our stay was heaven. Our room was cozy and comfortable and the linens felt like silk. Breakfast was extraordinary and the conversation delightful. We will definitely return to Carlisle, and will only stay at the Carlisle House.
