Enjoy the romance of this High Sierra mountain lodge, the pleasure of a family vacation, take over the Gold Country Inn for a reunion or business meeting, schedule a wedding or winemaker dinner.
Each morning a full breakfast is served at 9 a.m. in the McCaffrey House dining room. Special needs and times are accommodated with advance notice. The morning meal is authored by Stephanie McCaffrey, a master of the culinary arts, and served in a country-style setting ... with views of the pristine forest, diverse birds and wildlife, rays of sunshine or snowflakes in flight. Please inquire about our healthy picnic lunch ... freshly prepared and delivered in a signature McCaffrey House cloth bag.
The breakfast experience: The day begins with the aroma of fresh brewed coffee. Relax in the beautifully decorated dining room for a full country breakfast, prepared by Stephanie McCaffrey, a master of the culinary arts. Enjoy fresh fruits and juices, a hot entrée – like Epicurean Ecstasy – fresh baked breads and granola. In summer, breakfast is served on the decks which surround the Inn.
This light-filled room offers forest and garden views from the balcony and bay window. The ambiance of this room is deeply serene with its accents of rich color complimented by the multihued blue Amish quilt and country antiques. Relax in a comfy chair and while away an afternoon with a book from the antique bookcase, watch an old movie on the TV/VCR, or sit on the deck and enjoy the sound of the soft breeze in the trees.
Enjoy the romance and enchantment of grand forest views - from every window. A slotted pine sleigh queen bed, antiques and original art grace this lovely room, which features an Amish quilt in red, green, and white cherry design. Relax by the firestove, read a book on your own private deck, watch a movie on the TV/VCR, or drop a line to a friend or business associate on your notebook computer ... wireless.
This lovely room is ideal for couples, friends traveling together, or small families. Find refreshment in this delightfully expansive room with two queen pine beds and french doors that open to the patio ... with a lovely garden view. Some guests enjoy playing board games in this handsome room. Others like to sit on the private patio with a good book. Still others use their time in the Sage Room to catch up with email or search the world wide web using the free wireless internet service. (Sage can accommodate up to 4 family members. If you plan a trip to Yosemite, stay at the McCaffrey House. The rooms are lovely, the owners are extremely friendly and helpful. It is only 90 minutes drive (but what a beautiful drive). They did recommend some other places not even mentioned in my California book and they were simply gorgeous. Not to mention the breakfast: home made eggs benedict and fresh fruit...a pleasure for the eyes and the palate! Our only regret: we only stayed there one night!

The McCaffrey House is a beautiful home and the setting in the woods is beautiful. However, we found it a bit odd that the moment we were shown our room the quilt was immediately removed from the bed and never to be seen again. I didn't even get to take a picture of the room to show the family. The shower was old and needs replacing. The water shot out like a stream rather than a shower. The smoke alarm battery needed replacing and started beeping at 4:30am. No one tended to it until well after 8:30 am. the tiny bottle of shampoo and 1 1/2 inch bar of tiny soap was not replaced and was not sufficient for 2 people for 2 days. The breakfast was awsome and the inn keepers very nice. All in all it was a pleasant stay, but felt it was a bit over priced.

Comfortable, relaxing, friendly....first class. We enjoyed our two night stay, (on the most comfortable bed ever!) and enjoyed our breakfast and time spent in and around Twain Harte.

We had a great time. The room was fabulous. Its in a great location. Terrific for summer or winter vacationing. Best breakfast i've ever had at a B & B. We especially loved that it was dog friendly (and for big dogs as well), and our dogs had a great time as well. We'll definitely be back. Thanks again.
