Creme Brulee French Toast

Ingredients

  • 1 stick butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons corn syrup
  • 1 loaf french or challah bread
  • 5 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups half & half
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon Grand Marnier (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  1. Melt butter, sugar & corn syrup in saucepan over moderate heat. Pour into a 9x13 inch pan.
  2. Slice bread into 6 slices & place on top of sauce in 9x13 inch pan. Press together to fit in pan.
  3. Whisk together eggs, half & half, vanilla, Grand Marnier & salt. Pour over bread.
  4. Cover & chill 8-24 hours.
  5. Bake at 350 degrees for approximately 40-45 minutes, until puffy & golden brown. Serve with a dollop of whipped cream & sliced strawberries.
