Grandma Hopkin's Ginger Cookies

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 3/4 cup Butter
  • 1/4 cup Sorghum Molasses
  • 1 Egg
  • 2 cups Unbleached all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ginger
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon cloves

  1. Cream sugar and shortening.
  2. Add molasses and egg and mix well
  3. Sift flour, salt and spices. Add to the creamed mixture.
  4. Make small balls about the size of a quarter. Dip one end in sugar and place on a greased cookie sheet
  5. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 10 to 12 minutes.
