In medium bowl whisk eggs, milk, syrup, juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, and orange peel. Slowly soak bread in liquid one slice at a time, both sides. Place on platter in single Place dipped slices on platter and allow slices to rest for ten minutes or longer to soak through.
In a medium skillet or griddle, melt 1/2 tablespoon of butter, or spray with non-stick, over moderate heat. Add bread and cook for about 1-2 minutes or until golden brown. Flip and cook the other side until nice and brown. Center should be slightly firm to the touch. Generously butter each slice.
Place 2 to three slices, depending on size, on serving plate.Over lap slices a bit to create dimension. Top with fresh sliced fruit, such as bananas, mangos, and strawberries. Sprinkle with coarsely chopped nuts. Pour over with warm maple syrup. Sprinkle powdered sugar around on the plate or garnish with kiwi or orange slices if desired.
