Praline-topped French Toast: Breakfast-Brunch

Ingredients:

• 

  1 loaf Italian Bread

• 

  1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

• 

  1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

• 

  1 tablespoon vanilla extract

• 

  2 tablespoon sugar

• 

  8 large eggs

• 

  1/2 cup half and half

• 

  Ingredients for Praline Topping:

• 

  1/2 lb butter

• 

  1 cup light brown sugar

• 

  1 cup chopped pecans

• 

  2 tablespoons light corn syrup

• 

  1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

• 

  1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Step 1:

Slice bread into 1-inch thick slices (angle the cuts to maximize the size of the slice). Arrange the slices in a glass casserole dish.

Step 2:

In a large bowl, combine the nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla, sugar, eggs, and half-n-half and whisk until blended but not too bubbly. Pour the mixture over the bread slices, making sure all are covered evenly. Soak for about 1/2 hour, turning several times to insure bread is thoroughly soaked.

Step 3:

Heat oven to 375 degrees. Take the soaked bread out of the casserole dish and place slices on waxed paper. Clean dish and generously spray with non-stick spray. Put the slices back in the dish and place in oven. Bake for 20 minutes. While slices are baking, make the Praline Topping.

Step 4:

Praline Topping - whisk all ingredients in a bowl and blend well.

Step 5:

Remove casserole dish from oven and turn each slice over. Spoon equal amounts of Praline Topping over slices of French Toast, return to oven and bake for 10 more minutes. Serve with breakfast sausage.
