Featherbed Eggs: Breakfast-Brunch

Step 1:
1 slice of country French bread, 3/4 inch thick 1 cup of extra sharp cheddar cheese, grated 1/4 cup of ham, diced (optional) 3 eggs (we use local farm fresh eggs from free range chickens) Combine half & half with eggs to make 1 cup liquid. (about 1/2 cup half & half) Pepper, freshly ground Place one layer of country French bread in buttered 1 quart casserole dish so that the bottom is covered. Tuck in bread pieces to fill any spaces. Cover with grated sharp cheddar. Sprinkle with diced ham. Mix eggs and half & half/ to make 1 cup of liquid. Drizzle egg/milk mixture over top of cheese and ham. Grate pepper over the top. Cover and refrigerate overnight. Put in cold oven and turn oven to 350 degrees. Bake uncovered for about 45 minutes until puffy and lightly golden
