Port Washington Inn Gingerbread Cookies

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup soft shortening
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 1/2 cups dark molasses
  • 2/3 cup cold water
  • 6 cups flour (I use unbleached)
  • 2 teaspoons soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon allspice
  • 1 teaspoon ginger
  • 1 teaspoon cloves
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

  1. Mix shortening, brown sugar, and molasses thoroughly.
  2. Stir in water.
  3. Measure flour; stir in soda, salt, and spices.
  4. Add dry ingredients to moist ingredients; blend thoroughly.
  5. Chill dough so it will be easy to handle. This dough is espcially nice to work with and highly recommended for young cookie makers!
