The koa trees make interesting shadows on the back lawn.I recently discovered that dahlias do very well here in Volcano, so I've planted about 30 varieties. We shall see how much of the year I can keep them blooming! It's now October and they're still going!

Lava still flows into the ocean from the Pu‘u ‘O‘o vent on the slope above. An evening drive of about 40 miles from Crater Rim Cabin will take you to the present entry point. The flow changes every day and can be quite spectacular!Just a 22 mile drive down the highway from Crater Rim Cabin is Puna Lu‘u Black Sand Beach Park. Often, you will find the endangered green sea turtles sunbathing on the rocks.
