TouVelle House is a 3-story 1916 Craftsman style B&B with 6 guest rooms all with private baths situated on 1.3 acres in the heart of Jacksonville, OR, a National Historic Landmark town and home of the Britt Music Festivals. The 3-story home offers 6 guest rooms all with private baths, many comfortable common areas and tranquil grounds, attached owner’s cottage, swimming pool and more.
The House:
Built by Judge Frank and Elizabeth TouVelle in 1916, the house was designed to impress. 12’ high ceilings on the ground floor along with a fireplace in the foyer and a 20’ X 30’ great room combine to create a sense of grandeur – but one that is humanized by the handsome, 7’ high wood paneling, large windows, comfortable furnishings and décor. For fans of the Arts & Crafts style, this is a true treasure. Adding to the of history of the house, the 1-story back section which includes the Library, Dining Room and Kitchen, is part of an 1860’s house which the TouVelle's incorporated into their 1916 Craftsman style home.
There is one guest room on the first floor off of the living room, three guest rooms on the second floor and two on the third floor. The owners’ cottage is attached to the kitchen which provides convenient access while also maintaining enough separation for privacy.
The Property:
The house has a commanding presence sitting uphill from the adjacent streets and sidewalks with lawns and perennial gardens sweeping down to greet guests. It has the feel of being in the country, tranquil and secluded, but is located just two blocks from the main street. There is a solar-heated swimming pool and spacious patio area including a barrel sauna; a new gazebo beside the gold fish pond out front, a welcoming front porch and a secluded side porch and enclosed garden. Behind the pool and the barn is a private garden with a variety of fruit trees and room for vegetables and flowers.
A barn/shop close to the owners’ cottage provides plenty of storage space and work areas to meet the needs of a busy B&B. A separate drive provides access to the barn and owners cottage.
Business:
Jacksonville has several drawing points for tourism. It is a National Historic Landmark in recognition of its well-preserved central core which retains the look and feel of a Victorian era gold mining town. The Britt Festivals bring musical and dance performers to a unique outdoor venue. And it is adjacent to the Applegate Valley – Oregon’s newest and fastest growing wine appellation. TouVelle House is also a member of the Ashland Bed & Breakfast Network (the only out-of-Ashland property allowed membership) so the Oregon Shakespeare Festival is also a draw.
In town, there are 4 other B&B’s as well as other lodging alternatives, all appealing to different needs. TouVelle House appeals to people seeking a true B&B experience in a historic home that emphasizes comfort and tranquility.
The business has been built up over the past 5 years after not being fully operational for a short period of time. An additional 20% organic growth can be expected. With more attention to marketing activities the level of growth could be expanded even further. There are new coordinated marketing efforts in development through a merchants association which is focusing on expanding the season and increasing business year-round. Currently the main season runs from June through September. Earlier spring has been increasing as well as the fall and holiday season. Listing Price is $1,350,000 turnkey (some personal items and furnishings excluded)
